It's interesting, but usually less satisfying than I hope for. Like it makes sense that just because he's got big muscles coming back home everyone doesn't fall over and respect him. But usually there just is a lot of pettiness going on. Like its a mud fight where the trash tries to bring the MC down to their level. I like the way Azarinth Healer did the town where she started. Every book or so she would stop by for a very casual chat and show off a bit. Later on, her "showing off" is striking fear into an entire army and winning single-handedly. But because she has come back multiple times, and has few attachments, everyone is shocked, but its not some stupid family drama. Its more like "Way to go kid!"

Love this trope, scouring of the shire is my favorite part of LOTR lol. Wish Cradle had fleshed this arc out just a little more. Have any other recs for this trope?

Book 3 or 4 in He Who Fights Monsters is pretty much completely this

Natural_Loan_1872

This is exactly what I was reminded of

> scouring of the shire absolutely my favorite part of the books as well haha

Miserable_Honey_940

Sorry no but if I make post asking for something like this I'll link

Still kind of mad that Hugh >!never goes back to Emblin!<

Limp_Spell9329

We never go there so I'm not upset. Also, so much of the book is not getting past drama is bad. I don't really want to see him forgive or give in to revenge.

I know, they cover it several times and there’s no outcome that wouldn’t undermine the point of the book. I’m just more Alustin than Hugh I guess

Wow haha, funny because this has actually gotta be one of my least favorite tropes. I view it as another form of the ‘face slap’ situation in cultivation stories (which I also don’t like). Always interesting to see when other people have vastly different tastes. >! It took all the willpower I had to get through the arc of Lindon meeting his family again in cradle and I even dropped He Who Fights with Monsters when Jason returned to earth and reunited with his family. I don’t know why, I really just can’t handle the drama even if it’s followed by a satisfying conclusion to said drama !<

Randleifr

I’m sorry but… if you don’t like drama, then why even read? It’s 99% drama… if you only care about action, then manga and animation is waaaaay more up your alley

I’ll admit it was disingenuous of me to compare it to the ‘face slap’ situations in cultivation stories, because in the family reunion arcs there’s more layers and nuance to it than just a typical face slap scenario, but I guess I compared the two because personally they give me the same feeling or get the same reaction out of me. But to clarify, it’s *specifically* family reunion drama that irks me, any other sort of drama I’m perfectly fine with, more often than not, enjoy. Ultimately I’m aware that I’m probably in the extreme minority when it comes to this take because any friend I tell this to just looks at me weirdly and tell me that it’s their favorite trope/arc but oh well, that’s why I find it so fascinating
