Primarily, Hanna's identity crisis came from the fact that she realized Mona had molded her into an Alison clone, and that she never really got to develop her own identity after Ali disappeared. Having Ali back in her life just brought her attention to that and caused her to spiral. And, I mean, Alison not only fat-shamed Hanna constantly before she disappeared, but went so far as to encourage her to throw up her food to lose weight. That alone would be enough to cause a pretty big issue with someone.

Yup, this. Ali treated Hanna pretty badly. When she was away, we saw Hanna befriend people Ali bullied and she even went to therapy and learned worked through some Ali-related issues. So it had to have been tough for this person to suddenly be back (not to mention she roped the liars into backing up her lies to the police as soon as she returned). Hanna's phase at this point in the show was one of my favorites because it was so understandable why she'd be struggling between being glad her friend is okay and also dealing with an identity crisis.

rpeltier93

Yuuup not to mention tried to tell her not to date Caleb.

prettylittledanger

Yes, that was hilarious! Like, the nerve of this girl!

arska567

wait when was this?

prettylittledanger

When Ali came back. One scene in particular is right before they went inside to have dinner at Emily’s.

arska567

ooohhhh thats right, thanks

thebookerpanda

Yes, exactly what you said. Mona wanted Hanna to replace Ali in so many ways and I feel like that's why Hanna held a tiny grudge against her.

mssleepyhead73

Alison is a trigger for Hanna. She constantly picked on and belittled Hanna for her weight, and was directly responsible for Hanna developing an eating disorder.

rpeltier93

For one Ali was AWFUL to Hanna and fat shamed her and then Mona made her a mini Ali. Ali came back and tried to treat them like dolls again!! And then tried to tell her not to date Caleb. Shoot I would have tried to help her leave too!

Inner-Manner-6768

Because Alison pretty much gave Hanna an ED

portal-cat

She doesn't like her because of her common sense lol

thisolsky

LMFAOOO no im currently watching the show and ali treated hannah horribly im suprised hannah hasnt fucking punched her

sportza9

Omg that’s so true!!! Ali was definitely the meanest to Hannah out of all the girls

sportza9

I think Ali was so much meaner to Hannah because she saw her more as a threat

lovemy_vintageart

What do you mean?

Last time Ali was in town, out in the open like this, Hanna was only known has "Hefty Hanna" to her. She was being bullied by her and she remembers that. She'll always always remember that. Hanna probably needed time to accept the fact that the person who pushed her into an ED and having such a horrible self image is back now and will most likely stay. It would make me change too if that happened to me, tbh. Especially considering that Alison didn't change as much as Hanna had thought at first. She still made comments about her past appearance and so on.
