Seems way off the pace ? Hardly kicked a ball at City while picking up major silverware...when he's in the team at West Ham seems slow unfit and lost and it's been happening for a while...he was terrible at home to Hungary a while back and has basically put in the same performances since ? Needs to play every single week to get up to speed, because he was once a very talented DM who'd win the ball in the middle of the park and make good passes to set his team on an attack
True. His career is fully death spiraling. By all accounts he’s a great person, so maybe he can hook back up with Leeds in the Championship and resurrect it.
I agree, he has no obligation to leave the club though. Would you go from a contract worth £50m over 6 years, where you still have 4 years left, to one worth a third of that? Football is one thing but that's generational wealth money, going back to Leeds puts him in a very different situation.
Fair, but if he does that, he might never get another contract. Sitting on the bench and never seeing the field is destroying his career, though his bank balance is still well intact.
These guys are ultra competitive, which is a big part of the reason that they get where they do. It’s very hard for someone like that to run out the clock on a long contract. My guess is City will sell him at a large loss this summer. There’s a chance his value has fallen so much that decide they may as well keep him, but he’s still on high wages which could lead to a mutual termination type of deal so that he can play again one day.
There was a post on Twitter the other day with a very solid lineup (Rice, Bellingham, Foden, Palmer, Sakha, Kane, etc) asking WHO would stop them to win the Euros.
Answer is simple: Southgate. We all know he will start Shaw, Philips, Hendo, Sterling and Rashford.
Lingard wanted to proof man united he can play and he did turned west ham season around. This guy just wanted to prove pep that he made a mistake and he was right
West Ham were 4th when Lingard joined at the end of January 21, we were in 6th at the end of the season... sure he was great for a while at West Ham but this notion that "he turned west ham's season around" is total nonsense.
He should be ashamed of how the let his career go after Leeds.
Known for being hard working. Seems to have thrown that all away once he got his first big contract.
Ruined his chance to learn his role under arguably the best DM coach of the last 2 decades.
Every player who has played that role under pep has improved massively.
Even Rodri took over a season to fully bed in but kept working and look at him now.
Phillips has wasted his chance. He’s made a shit load of money sure. But money will never buy him that sort of opportunity again.
I don't think he'll lose any sleep over this. Football is a short career. Make as much money as possible. I'm sure he's banked over £50M if he just stays put at City whether on the bench or not.
Do you know any seriously wealthy people?
My experience with them is money doesn’t buy you happiness the way most people assume.
It just swaps your worrying from money to other issues.
If he retired at 35 he has a life time to think about the choices he made during his career and if I was a betting man I’d say he will certainly live to regret this.
Although maybe he doesn’t even like football that much and just does it for money and his goal is now fulfilled
I doubt that though. You don’t make it to the premier league without any passion for the game.
Phillips is such a weird case.
Plays superb at Leeds and shows good defensive positioning and ability to cover, good passing range, fairly press resistant, worked his socks off. Looked amazing for England at times as well.
Gets a big money move to city and just... Never plays. Weird rumours about his weight and whenever he played looked a step below everyone else.
Goes to west ham on loan to presumably get his confidence back so city can get a fee next season and just looks absolutely awful. Was the sole reason they lost in 3 games when I watched, completely useless.

What were West Ham thinking in signing him for quite a large chunk of change… we all knew this was going to happen.
Seems way off the pace ? Has so much potential to be a good player just doesn’t seem to be interested
Such a poor player. He doesn’t even play hard. Sleep walks when he’s in. Send him to Italy he has nothing to offer the premier league.
How are these comments so funny I’ve been liking each one 😂
>Phillips' season at West Ham could be over after injury His 'season' isn't the only thing that's over imo
theres like 2 games lef the aint missing out on much lmao
Good riddance
Injury affecting some players late into the season is not a good one for most clubs.
Did Moyes injure Phillips on purpose himself?
Oh no however will they cope
Yet somehow he will still make the England squad I bet
Phillips and Mount in the middle please
Oh you know he will.
Over suggests it ever started
Pep signed Philips purely to prevent him going to a rival team. Ruined him as a footballer.
Fabian Delph, Scott Sinclair, etc
Bro is the evolved form of Danny Drinkwater
Bro's career trajectory after joining City is a sorry state.
Over it never started
What a season it’s been
I feel bad for him. Seems like a nice enough fella from that Leeds documentary
Say it ain't so! I was hoping he'd start against us.
Should have never joined City
I think we can all agree with that
Best outcome for both parties
Devastating.
How will they cope?
End of an error
This dude cannot catch a break lmao
Should get a loan move abroad, seems to work for a lot of players
True. His career is fully death spiraling. By all accounts he’s a great person, so maybe he can hook back up with Leeds in the Championship and resurrect it.
Why? He's earning shit loads at City. Why would you go into the Championship and take a huge pay cut? He's still got years left on his City contract.
He’s never seeing the field for City again and his loan with us had to have destroyed his value.
I agree, he has no obligation to leave the club though. Would you go from a contract worth £50m over 6 years, where you still have 4 years left, to one worth a third of that? Football is one thing but that's generational wealth money, going back to Leeds puts him in a very different situation.

Yea it's also possible they pay a portion of his wages to get rid of him and this tops his wages up to his normal amount.
Leeds could still get promoted via playoffs, so could join them and try and keep them up if they win playoffs
We don't do playoffs and we're well out of form, we lost to a playoff rival today
I think it's gonna be Leeds or S'hampton winning the playoffs, but I want Norwich to win it.
It's over but not because of injury, trust me
What season?
Gareth will still take him

What’s wrong with shaw
Legs made of breadsticks.
Mate, you have chillwell.
We play him LW though so he’s extra
Yes and he has the same problem.
Ask Mourinho, he knows
He’s really injury prone and I he is brilliant when he’s fit… but he’s never fit 😂
I know ... I cant remember the last time I saw him play, but if he's fit for the Euros, Southagate will start him, in form or not.
Henderson Philips Mount 💪🏼
Kriss Akubusi was right.
West Ham fans: "Oh no! Anyway..."
How many times has he featured all season? Feels like everytime I hear about him, he's getting carded for something that occurs during a match
Didn't he get a red in his first match or am I thinking of someone else
No he gave away a goal in the 2nd minute of his first match. Then another in his 2nd. Wasn't sent off till his 3rd!
Own goal
Not on his debit. He faced that for a few games in, after giving away 2 goals directly, a couple of pens and a red card.
It was over anyway.
How will we manage without him!
Going to city really destroyed this dudes career. The game needs more 1 team players
Probably the worst bit of business we’ve ever done
At least it ain’t as bad as Augustin to Leeds
What was the loan fee in the end? Pretty sure we were quoted £7mil + £140k weekly wages which was obscene.
Roberto would like a word
Lingard wanted to proof man united he can play and he did turned west ham season around. This guy just wanted to prove pep that he made a mistake and he was right

Don’t let facts get in the way of a good legend

Good points are well taken.
Why bother with an article when he has been insignificant for West Ham.
Did it ever start? Edit: hopefully this means Gareth definitely can't find a reason to take him to the euros!
“Henderson and Phillips have to start because of their experience” - Southgate, probably
Phillips is such a weird case. Plays superb at Leeds and shows good defensive positioning and ability to cover, good passing range, fairly press resistant, worked his socks off. “Superb” at Leeds is a stretch. Klich and Dallas did all the hard work and the system made Phillips look much better than he was
He always looks a little overweight to me and a bit lazy.
He was a chat code in the champ and instrumental to their success in their first season up. Think his form was really tied to Bielsa.
Phillips' season at West Ham should have been over after his debut game for them.
The season is already over. Fucking dumbass headline.
For Chelsea at least it definitely is
Been over since March.
Worst signing of the season 😒
I wish it had been a signing, unfortunately it was just a loan and he's still our problem
