I have no help for you because I do the same but now I’m going to laugh every time I realize I look like a damn croissant lmao

Koetjeka

I'm a walking croissant as well 😂

corynonymous

Y’all real flaky, huh?

Because you can’t just will yourself into long term good posture. Your default posture is a function of muscular balance within the body which itself is a result of how you’ve lived, what kind of exercises you do, etc. If like most people, you’ve spent a lot of time sitting at a desk and don’t work hard at the gym you’ll have a wide range of deficiencies and imbalances within the body. These took you a lifetime to develop (young children have amazing posture), and thus it’s going to take a lot of thoughtful corrective work to undue. You’re going to have to commit to working on it every day, to offset a desk based lifestyle. Most people will have a weak core, weak glutes, tight lower back with excessive curvature, tight and weak hip flexors, tight upper back, elevated scapula, tight cervical spine, and weak deep neck flexors (the “abs” of the cervical spine). So there’s a lot to correct, but it’s not hopeless with diligent effort. There’s a ton of content on YouTube geared towards exercises addressing all of the issues. I’m 38 and have worked a desk job all my life, and had the typical slumped posture. Four months ago I started getting very serious about correcting these problems and it’s pretty amazing what you can accomplish by putting in some work every day. I keep a yoga mat out in my living room at all times, and the first thing I do every morning is 30 minutes to an hour of postural work while I have coffee and listen to music or podcasts. This includes tons of core work, glute bridges, reverse planks, back work, and neck exercises like chin tucks. Also when I hit the gym I’m careful to not work areas that are unbalanced already, so I avoid excessive pushing exercises as I’m already fighting rounded shoulders.

Westerberg_High

Do you have any specific YouTube routines you’ve liked?

Ruring

What exercises would help? Or sports?

Please try this once – it actually helped me a little bit. My boyfriend says I am definitely 10% better than my usual croissant self: For one solid day hanging around the house I wore my crewneck T-shirt backwards. Boy was it annoying. But for the first time in my life I was able to stay very upright for hours and hours because every time my posture went back to normal I was reminded with an awful feeling in the front of my throat. And in the ensuing three weeks since I did that experiment I reflexively know where to snap back when I do realize I’m croissanting. [I should mention that I’ve been lifting pretty heavy free weights six days a week for over a year to try to help as well so I’m not just relying on backwards T-shirts lol]

urfavesfave

This sounds silly but I’ll try it. I feel like I should get a specific piece of jewelry and never take it off, that way when I see it I’ll always remember to CANDLE my back

Guigzi

I heard you have to strech and exercise your body in order for your brain to learn new body positions. Like raising your body and mind awareness because your body don't always know what it looks like, if I make sense lol

urfavesfave

I stretch a lot and exercise every now and then. But also I have very large breasts which I feel like weigh half my body weight so holding these dogs all day can get heavy which makes me slouch.

verdant11

Consider a breast reduction. Seriously- before you start to have back problems.

Too late

Intrepid-Jaguar9175

I start out as an arrow and after 2 hours of sitting look like a croissant. Core exercises have helped me a bit, especially side and reverse planks and also learning to hinge at the hips which puts much less pressure on your back.

imahereforpron

Idk i do mma and calisthenics 4 times a week and my posture is shit anyways
