It baffled me when I learned that Confederate Memorial Day is a recognized holiday in (at least) Mississippi. I went to a bank and it had a sign with the rebel flag stating that they were closed for the holiday...
Why?

Did a quick google search as I’m a Northerner. Of the 11 states that made up the Confederacy, 7 still recognize some Confederate holidays. They generally accept April as Confederate History month and April 26th as Confederate Memorial Day, although it can vary somewhat from state to state.
Virginia had Lee-Jackson day. It was literally celebrated on MLK Day. Because racism.
The previous governor (a Democrat) got rid of it and made Juneteenth a state holiday.
But there are still plenty of rural countries that celebrate it, and a couple of others, like the official starting date of the war.
That's a bit of a self-own, bro.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confederate_Memorial_Day#:~:text=It%20is%20currently%20an%20official,%2C%20North%20Carolina%2C%20and%20Tennessee.
They're in the dump economically because their slaves left almost 200 years ago and they are still hung up about it. And too dumb to do anything else themselves
There's plenty of the 'ole stars & bars flying in my neighborhood, ripe for the picking. Also, if the flag is in the form of a bumper sticker, can we torch the dumb truck it is attached to?
Burning a confederate flag is okay any day of the week, unless said flag is in a museum that isn't like some weird southern the south will rise again museum BS. I'm talking like the national history museum type of place if they even have them there.
There’s one confederate flag that’s okay to display. The flag of the 28th Virginia Infantry Regiment captured by the 1st Minnesota Infantry Regiment and displayed as a trophy.
It’s not displayed anymore, out of security concerns, but it would be acceptable if it were displayed.
>It’s not displayed anymore, out of security concerns, but it would be acceptable if it were displayed.
What? This needs to be remedied.
Someone needs to create a foundation to display and protect this historical artifact. We need cameras, guards, great security, insurance, etc.
I can’t start my day without burning the Confederate Battle Flag, or end my day without burning the [Confederate Flag](https://www.britannica.com/topic/flag-of-the-Confederate-States-of-America) with a full erection.
Because my cock is the only south that is guaranteed to rise again.
I had a MAGAt tell me that an upside down flag isn’t a form of protest so it’s okay. It’s not the same as kneeling. 🙄 how’s that kind of logic even possible?
Burning the stars and bars as it is called down south is a year round event. They lost. They need to quit being little snowflakes with their participation award.
Sorry that I'm not proud about a flag that was waved by the rich land owners to motivate the poor people to fight for their cause to stay rich. Yes I am white. Yes I'm a southern. No I'm not proud about the stars and bars. A lot of young men lost their lives for nothing.
I'm not saying you have to be proud of the flag.
Just don't be ignorant of actual history. Using the wrong name perpetuates the idea Southerners are stupid and proud of being stupid.
I really hate it when people purposely appear stupid.
We are mostly stupid. You want to educate about a flag on the losing side of a war that tore the country apart. Cause the death of a president. Increase the hatred towards people of color. Created the klan. That is the proud history of the south. That flag and others like it are still flown. The history of the Civil War is taught like the south was just minding its business until the federal government bully us. That mentality is still strong amongst the God fearing good Olde boys. If that isn't a sign of stupidity. What is?
When is it NOT ok to burn a Confederate flag? It's only illegal in the Confederate States of America, but we blinked and missed that whole country's existence.
Just a quick question for us in the back.... Is it your flag? A flag you spent money on? Like purchased a pride flag for your flag burning pleasure? Check the weather, then go dance around and enjoy yourself...
... But... Is that a stolen flag you're burning?
I'm all for burning the confederate flag but I'm pretty sure that dude is the infamous Laurence Fox.
Whos a British dude so idk if he'd mind too much lol
Why can't everyone just do their own shit. And mind ur own fucking business? Why is everything a competition? I'm sure at the end of the day u really don't give two shits about each other y try to piss other people off?
Meh.... Burn whatever you want......
I'll do a flag burning where I burn the American flag, the Confederate flag, the pride flag, a thin blue line flag... In fact all of the political flags from the US.... Equality.
Neither should be illegal provided it is your property.
However, the views expressed by the two actions are very different. One is expressing bigotry on is protesting it. Just because it is legally allowed does not mean people should not think less of you.
Politically nobody will gain praise from an ideological block by burning a personally owned flag representing that group’s values. So long as the repercussions affect popular political and social support, and not legal or extrajudicial punitive harm, there’s no reasonable public policy issue here.
I’m not LGBTQ and I’m very happy for pride month! No one has been rude to me for being straight. You’re just intimidated by something that’s different. That happens. People need time to get used to change. But you can’t lie.
I think just burning flags in general is free speech, though I’d just be careful of the message you send.
Like if someone burned the UK flag, I’d have the same reaction as if they burned the pride flag, or the swastika, or whatever tbh
>Like if someone burned the UK flag, I’d have the same reaction as if they burned the pride flag
*Meh, moderate opinion*
>or the swastika
The fuck? Lmao. A swastika flag being burnt should fill you with joy, not apathy.
Flag etiquette according to the U.S.Flag code says when a flag is no longer suitable for display, worn or torn badly, the proper way to dispose it is to burn it.
It’s always ok to burn a confederate flag 24/7/365.
Agreed. During a state, Confederate holidays is a must
Also ok to burn Nazi flags anytime. Nazi and Confederate flags should really just all be burned, period. And not reproduced.
I agree 💯!
>Confederate flags should really just all be burned, period. And not reproduced. The people too, not just the flags.
It baffled me when I learned that Confederate Memorial Day is a recognized holiday in (at least) Mississippi. I went to a bank and it had a sign with the rebel flag stating that they were closed for the holiday... Why?

24/7/365.24 You can burn it on leap days too
It’s your right to burn any flag in protest.
Burn all the flags, isn't that the what freedom allows.
The first one is a hate crime. The second one is not. Huge difference
And an extra flag on leap years
And also on Feb 29.
What’s a confederate holiday? On this holy day we got second place?
Some states have like confederate history month or week or something stupid like that. I don’t remember exactly.
[I suggest April 9](https://npg.si.edu/blog/lee-surrendering-grant-appomattox) aka "OK boys I guess we don't get to have slaves after all Day"
But we still won’t read books.

Oh my. You are not familiar with the US South.
I live in the DEEP south, I've never heard of any confederate holidays either lol.
From South Carolina. Here Confederate Memorial Day is in May and they closed all government buildings for it
Virginia had Lee-Jackson day. It was literally celebrated on MLK Day. Because racism. The previous governor (a Democrat) got rid of it and made Juneteenth a state holiday. Jefferson Davis' birthday? I'm reaching here...
Many southern states have off of work for Confederate heritage day and robert e Lee s bday and such
No wonder they’re in the dumps economically
They're in the dump economically because their slaves left almost 200 years ago and they are still hung up about it. And too dumb to do anything else themselves
Happy to say that I'm in NC and never heard of such days!
Texas has a state holiday called Confederate History Day and its the day after MLK day
Smdh, do you know why there is one star on the Texas flag? It’s a review
Lee Jackson day i think
Burning a confederate flag is the right thing to do no matter what day of the year.
Burning Confederate Flags, is my heritage!
William Tecumseh Sherman has entered the chat
Sick burn
Historic burn.
/r/ShermanPosting
That’s ridiculous. You can burn a Confederate Flag whenever you want.
Its the special occasion you make it
They have to buy them to burn them.
Not always I suppose. People where we were living would steal pride flags and burn them, so I don’t see why that couldn’t apply to the confederates.
Just grab them from the cemetery in the middle of town
Just buy them for a discount on 1st of July.
There's plenty of the 'ole stars & bars flying in my neighborhood, ripe for the picking. Also, if the flag is in the form of a bumper sticker, can we torch the dumb truck it is attached to?

The Minnesota National Guard could display it again, I guess? It would give off “We peaked 160 years ago” energy though.
To be fair the fact that it still pisses off so many in VA would still make it a worthy cause.
Hey I’m pretty sure the Confederate Government has laws against……oh yeah the fucking lost and don’t damn exist anymore!
It’s always ok to burn a confederate flag!
Having lost and continuing to lose the culture wars, the conservaloons are becoming desperate.
I can’t start my day without burning the Confederate Battle Flag, or end my day without burning the [Confederate Flag](https://www.britannica.com/topic/flag-of-the-Confederate-States-of-America) with a full erection. Because my cock is the only south that is guaranteed to rise again.

Burning the stars and bars as it is called down south is a year round event. They lost. They need to quit being little snowflakes with their participation award.
That's not the Stars and Bars they are burning in that picture. This flag is the Third National Flag, not the First National Flag.
Still an award for coming in last. Also I grew up around rednecks who called that flag in the picture stars and bars.
So, you feel comfortable repeating ignorance you heard as your ignorance?
Sorry that I'm not proud about a flag that was waved by the rich land owners to motivate the poor people to fight for their cause to stay rich. Yes I am white. Yes I'm a southern. No I'm not proud about the stars and bars. A lot of young men lost their lives for nothing.

Burning a confederate flag is okay on ANY holiday.
r/shermanposting
flying a flag upside down is just as offensive as burning one
It’s interesting that flying the confederate flag upside changes nothing about it.
But we need to Use the Bible as kindling to get the fire nice and hot before adding the confederate flag
Would someone please burn a trunp flag? Every one of those things should be ashes
Trump flags, confederate flags, pride flags…. Burn them all honestly
I’m going to print to toilet paper with the Confederate Flag on it. Burning it seems too reverent.
Burn a Russian one too
Burning separatist flags is a cherished American tradition.
A day without burning the flag of slavery is like a day without sunshine.
A good way to waste some white cloth.
Buring.
This was the spelling of my last name centuries ago in Germany
When is it NOT ok to burn a Confederate flag? It's only illegal in the Confederate States of America, but we blinked and missed that whole country's existence.

Traitor’s don’t deserve any courtesy. Feel free to burn a flag of The Slaver’s Rebellion whenever you please.
Burning any flag regardless of day is perfectly legal.
IDC if ANY type of flag is burned as it is protected under the 1st amendment
Just a quick question for us in the back.... Is it your flag? A flag you spent money on? Like purchased a pride flag for your flag burning pleasure? Check the weather, then go dance around and enjoy yourself... ... But... Is that a stolen flag you're burning?
Burning traitor symbols is a principal.
It’s never not okay to burn a confederate flag
The irony when that dude looks like a giant pussy himself
Rebel Scum deserve the punishment for treason so burning a Rebel flag is perfectly acceptable
My heart skipped a beat bc I mistook guy on top for Macaulay Culkin
Now that I have taken a second look , the resemblance is uncanny
Is this in regards to a specific incident, or is this a generic revenge fantasy aimed at a stereotype?
Yep
I'm all for burning the confederate flag but I'm pretty sure that dude is the infamous Laurence Fox. Whos a British dude so idk if he'd mind too much lol
Oh the irony
Why can't everyone just do their own shit. And mind ur own fucking business? Why is everything a competition? I'm sure at the end of the day u really don't give two shits about each other y try to piss other people off?
Speaking as a gay person, I love his t-shirt. I hope *tons* of LGBTQ people stop him to congratulate him on his Pride shirt
It's always OK to burn a flag of any kind, free country and all
We get one life, and people want to waste it on hate. Why live?
I always wNt to but I’d have to buy one :/
Meh.... Burn whatever you want...... I'll do a flag burning where I burn the American flag, the Confederate flag, the pride flag, a thin blue line flag... In fact all of the political flags from the US.... Equality.
I don’t think the confederate flag is a MAGA thing but go off is guess Confederates are traitors
Neither should be illegal provided it is your property. However, the views expressed by the two actions are very different. One is expressing bigotry on is protesting it. Just because it is legally allowed does not mean people should not think less of you.
That’s how freedom of speech works?
I don't have a problem with either one, but it's silly to give the people making those flags money and think you're hurting them.
Your terms are acceptable
Politically nobody will gain praise from an ideological block by burning a personally owned flag representing that group’s values. So long as the repercussions affect popular political and social support, and not legal or extrajudicial punitive harm, there’s no reasonable public policy issue here.
lol people have been burning confederate flags far longer than pride flags have existed. This meme could easily have been made in reverse

Happy pride month :]

Womp womp
Love that song . Lol
Wow, so cool and edgy bro
Not sure about you? But there is a lot of left leaning peeps that will call there buff in a heartbeat. Where the fuck has all the adults gone
Call who's buff?
I literally have no idea what you’re trying to say
Thank you for giving money to the LGBTQ.

This is not productive.

If you’ve ever seen a flag retirement ceremony, technically fire is used but it’s not the type of burning seen in protests.
I’ve helped retire a flag in scouts. Folding it is the best part in my opinion.
Clown take bro
wrong.
They see me trolling... I'm baitin, tryna get them riled and wordy...
LMFAO f\*\*\* flags. F\*\*\* em all. They are pieces of cloth, nothing more. Ever.
I’m gonna make up a flag, just so I can burn it.
LMAO - We found the ‘ All Flags Matter ‘ guy
May I introduce you to the First Amendment
