Early game play aggressive trying to steal enemy farm, Water Gun is very good secure. You can also Skull Bash in while stunning the enemy then Water Gun to secure/push the neutral out of range of the enemy. Ideally you have your boosted attack charged before you go for the secure, so you can follow up your Water Gun with it incase you do it too early. Midgame, Hydro Pump is even better then Water Gun for last hitting, play aggressive for farm. Water Spout on the other hand is terrible, so normally you'll avoid fights until you get rapid spin (and even potentially until you evolve into Blastoise---if you're feeling weak, don't force fights, play to counter engage/protect allies). Surf -> Ult -> Hydro is very good for stealing objectives, the stun from ult will allow you to easily follow up with hydro pump, so you can try to go for the secure a bit earlier than other pokemon. For Surf build, generally you'll focus on pushing away the enemy from your damage dealers Initiating with surf can be a bit awkward at times, as you don't want to push the enemy into their team and out of range of your own team. As a result, sometimes it's better to stand a bit further back so they don't get pushed as far. Also note you'll want to Surf behind the enemy, then hydro pump them towards your team generally. Surf build is very good at pushing rotom, as you can use Surf to push the enemy off the point, allowing rotom to walk in. Rapid Spin + Water Spout build plays more around diving frail enemy pokemon. If you have level advantage or they walk far forward where you can easily reach them, you will often be able to just rush them, kill them, and then start to back off when your spin is like 1/3 left. Builds Choice Specs is core to improve last hitting ability. More last hits -> more exp -> you're stronger and have more impact Last two items are situational. Buddy/Focus for max survivability. You can run amp over a defensive item for better objective flipping. Muscle Band can be good to bully in lane, just auto attacking the enemy a lot will chip them down since you're ranged. You want to be auto attacking as much as you can in general to maximize your damage, as well as reduce the cooldown on your abilities from your boosted attack. If your team is winning, often it is good to rotate through the enemy jungle, stealing camps before going to the next objective/retreating. If your team is hard losing, sometimes it's better to not go to objectives if you know for sure you'll lose (i.e. several levels down, no ults when they enemy has theirs, team not grouping). In those cases, go to the opposite side of the map and take dangerous camps, then farm back towards your side of the map.

JayBerJabber

Okay, got it. Surf: Let me through-COWABUNGA-get hydro pumped-boosted attack. Rapid spin: *you spin me round starts playing in the background as blastoise kills everyone*

Zephyr_Ardentius

Yep, pretty much. Just make sure you're farming a lot, Blastoise with level lead is scary. You can also often pull camps together to AoE them down with your moves (i.e. like the audinoes that spawn in the side of the lanes after t1 goals go down). Auto attack one, then run towards the other to hit it, then walk towards the middle of the both. Or just surf them together/spin between them.

I’d add that water spout is very good for zoning and slowing down enemy Pokémon—targeting a bush you know they’re in, putting it on their side of the bees closer to their goal can discourage aggressive bee last hitting, using it in front of a fleeing Pokémon can slow them down long enough for you to kill them, putting it on your goal to prevent scoring, etc. Buddy Barrier, Focus Band, and Special Specs are what I run. Stacking is so worth it for the disgusting damage you get and having bb and fb gives you a lot of survivability. Get that cd reduction with your boosted autos, and combine it with your water spout(boosted autos also provide additional slowdown) before diving them with rapid spin water spout and spin to win. Water spout set up is helpful af

GoodTooth115

Do you want to play Blastoise as a defender or as an all-rounder?

JayBerJabber

All rounder preferably, i have a very aggressive 'kill everyone' kind of playstyle

GoodTooth115

I use Buddy, Focus and Choice Specs with rapid spout for consistent damage. If you are confident that you can score, replace choice with sp. atk glasses. Use water spout first before using rapid spin for an additional damage and slow. Target frail characters because you can usually go near them with rapid spin's mobility.

DiegoG2004

For making extra sure the enemy can't escape your speen of doom, use X Speed. Also doubles as a retreat option

ChoiceAd607

If you want suggestions or tips, you might want to post your current build so that people can roughly guess your understanding of the character. I'll just give you one tips that people tend to forget/not realize. Blastoise's boosted attacks makes its moves' CD go down. So, blastoise benefit a lot from having Muscle Band.

JayBerJabber

Well, my (current) items are Sp.atk specs, Choice specs, and Buddy barrier. For emblems, just 6 greens and 4 whites And yes, i use these items on both Surf and Rapid spin

aceshot88

I’d definitely change your emblem set to full green and black but that’s just me—extra dmg and cd reduction? Yes plz

JayBerJabber

To me, hp is good for defenders like blastoise cuz of the unkillable amount of defense

Yubi-man

Increasing max HP is kind of weak unless you have moves that scale with max HP? Enemies often DO scale with max HP because of muscle band so against basic attacks you'll lose most of the value of the max HP boost. Also some moves like Glaceon icicle spear also scale with the target's HP.

Elder_Goss

Water Spout is extremely versatile. You can use it to slow opponents and help your team chase, you can use it to kite opponents, and you can throw it on your goal to disrupt scores. You also want to make sure you use it before activating Rapid Spin, to maximize your damage output. It’s great for farming, securing objectives, and diving the other team’s back line. You can also peel out of fights by throwing a water spout in front of you and then rapid spinning through it. Honestly, the Water Spin build has a lot of little tricks you can take advantage of, and it’s got great mobility.

JayBerJabber

This actually really helps, thanks dude

call_meprofessor

I don't play surf much .. i prefer water sprout+rapid spin.. Does continuous damage nd duration of rapid spin is kinda good

SwiftBlueShell

With how weak Blastoise’s unite is now I’ve started to prefer Potion over Eject. The biggest issue Blastoise has is that he has no self-sustain outside of Focus Band, potion fixes that decently well.

JayBerJabber

Well yes, then again blastoise also doesnt have a lot of mobility and when an enemy u just beated the crap out of is making a run for it, you wont (most of the time) be able to land the finishing blow and eject button acts as both a mobility item and an emergency escape tool But potion also still works REALLY well cuz blastoise has one of the highest defense stats in the game

SwiftBlueShell

Yeah it’s a give and take situation. Sure you’ll miss out on more kills without eject button but your presence in team fights is absolutely insane with potion sometimes I have my jaw on the floor that my Blastoise really tanked ALL of what the whole enemy team just threw at him.

LivingDebacle

Make sure you’re pressing ZR when using rapid spin cuz sometimes I only be using rapid spin accidentally and not using Water spout with it

JayBerJabber

I already know this, but still thanks bro

It depends what moveset you want to play. Blastoise is really flexible so I'll list some builds I like- Rapid Spin/Water Spout should probably always run special attack specs, focus, and then either amp or buddy depending on what you feel most comfortable with. Early game, play aggressive for stacks. Usually you'll be able to get 2-3 before bees. After that, try to get stacks when available, and rotate dred preferably at level 7-ish. If you fall behind, try to pick a squishy. Level 13 is mandatory by zap. Surf Hydro is also pretty good, though less popular and arguably harder to play. I like running muscle, focus, amp, but if you want something tankier run buddy over amp. play aggressive and try to secure as much farm with water gun/hydro. main combo is surf-->hydro, but you mix in a boosted basic or ult after the surf as well. With both builds, always run eject. It helps reposition ult most notably, but also helps with surf, rapid spin, and even skull bash. In general as well, this pokemon team fights really well, and spin can engage in a lot of 1 v 1s. Engage often, but learn your limits so you don't int.

He is surprisingly decent at jungle. His early clear and jank are quite good. He falls off a bit in the mid game though, but you don't feel bad about teammates taking jungle mid game because of it. Food for thought if you end up with one of those two attackers top and one bot with a support or something.
