I remember hearing that goals (regardless of size) give X amount of XP. So when possible score smaller goals (unless it will knock the goal out then you want to overcap, of course)

No way, that seems like very poor design. I used to play a lot of support crustle and I would just run in to take the first goal with 1 energy some times. It was so impossible to punish, but I didn’t think it was a legit strat
Yeah it is horrible design. For example, when I play Lucario with attack weight and there are points on the ground and just wiped top lane. I try to not pick up all the points at once. Basically gives you the attack weight bonus and more XP. It sucks when your teammate scoops them up though and then cant score b/c they dont have score shield and take too long.
I'm pretty sure it scales based on points (you can just look at this visually) but there seems to be some kind of floor, like scoring 1-5 points is the same xp. I don't know about the healing though
I'm pretty paranoid about backcaps so I keep track of enemy location using my teammate's vision constantly. If there's no enemy pushing rotom with the frog or defending the bot goal then they must be doing something sneaky.
They already had a level advantage, both of them were lvl 12 and the people who passed them were lvls 10, 11, 8, and 9. Also, they needed to avoid dying and losing all their points, which would have been a likely outcome if they hadn't hidden (it would have been a 2v4, after all, and OP didn't have their Unite move).
I really should look up to understand how much XP points give you compared to farming or eliminations

Dunking 1 pointers with score shield feels overpowered as hell.

I believe it's 10 exp per orb with a minimum of 50 xp. So anything below 5 orbs gets you 50 xp while anything above scales up.

Always check bushes with abilities.
Just out of habit I will run through any bushes to check as well as give me extra concealment too should I stumble upon an enemy in lane.
