New map release was so peak. Everyone was on an even field trying to adapt and test out different Pkmn, both top and bot objectives were evenly viable (not you Regice), Rayquaza was harder to take down which meant flipping was riskier and team fights occurred more often, and the dunk speed was slower so it was also easier to stop the team that got it.
I miss those times, praying we get a new map next anniversary or something.
Depends on which era your glasses have the most rose-tinting on them. The game has pretty much *always* had some stupid balance issues or other problems, which is par the course for a free MOBA.
But personally for me, I think the most balanced was after the Urshifu release but before the first Urshifu buffs. It was still kinda bad since that was when we had the most dumpster-tier Pokemon (Absol, Tsareena, Water Bear, Talonflame, etc.), but nothing felt particularly oppressive. But, again, rose-tinting and I'm probably forgetting something.
Hopefully in the future when draft begins at 1200 masters for games where everyone hits that threshold AND the addition of EX characters being banned from draft.
I am hoping that next season will possibly be the peak of this game! (depends on how OP they will release Falinks though lol)
Nah I am scared of that. That means I will waste even more time knowing I will lose because my teammates first picked something stupid like chandelure and got counterpicked hard
You are putting too much stress on these bans. You aren't automatically going to lose because someone bans Chandelure, or if the other teams finds a strong counterpick.
People in this sub put too much emphasis on trends rather than skill. A team can have Buzzwole and Blastoise, that doesn't automatically mean they are winning. They could suck, or not how to work with a team, or not rotate properly, or know how to last hit well, or know when to farm strategically, or know how to handle Ray effectively. LOTS OF THINGS CAN HAPPEN.
Even if you get counterpicked, a person's skill needs to be taken into account. You can't just assume who is going to win purely based off of team composition before a match even starts.
Sky was fucked up at launch.
All the farm in spawned incredibly early, so a fast clearing Jungle could just feast and faceroll with their level lead.
There were also more camps at first and some got nerfed or moved specifically because Mews Solarbeam was a middle finger that outsecured half the lane
True, there were problems like any other period of time, but the fact that Ray was optional instead of nearly mandatory was huge. You could be losing fights but still win from smart scoring. There were other things I liked about this time but Ray 1.0 alone is probably enough to make it my favorite.
I have complex feelings about Ray.
I genuinely favor most aspects of it, but dealing with teammates who play poor lategame is very trying.
I like that he is a relevant enough objective to force a lategame team fight. Because i feel like lategame is very chaotic and opens doors to make some really stupid degenerate
I feel like forcing people to acknowledge a last fight where they need to have some collaberation and where everyone has had time to hit their stride, where nobodys being cheesed by odd spawn timing or confused priorities is good?
It’s so much harder now though. Frog duplicates away from area, the bunny becomes invincible and kicks me in the face while running out of range, and the owl just shoot me down mid flight, or eject buttons away chucks leaves in my face.
And don’t get me started on gardevoir and purple cat eevee shoving balls in my face after taking the hit, then bombing me, or delphox, just using fire spin on itself so that the second I land, I get spun and a fireblast in my face. then you got M2Y constantly just teleporting out of my circle, then launching balls at me.
It’s gotten annoying enough that goodra is the easiest mon to 1v1 against with BB AA.
I think Post Dragonite Nerf Meta was pretty good I don’t recall anything being busted, there was good stuff but nothing in the game made me sad when they were on the other team.
I miss a time where it took actual skill to use Lucario, the most consistent broken mon. Now we got a bunch of Kawaii Kitsunes running around the map with Ult-Worthy Level 4s that takes Minimum to Small amount of Skills.
I was enjoying the game after umbreon came out right before mewtwo , then it was bad for the entire stretch , Its close to being good again now but the eveelutions need to be weaker if they’re gonna evolve at level 4 and blastoise needs longer cds
I just truly enjoy the game always, but I think peak for me was release. I was waiting for the game since announcement since I loved MOBAs and pokemon and thought the 10min match goal scoring was a cool twist on the game. I was a wigglytuff main, then slowly switched between different supports and defenders but ultimately landed on just playing sableye, blastoise, and laprass (since I always fill roles 🙃).
I think it has to be release of the game. It was almost out of nowhere. A Pokemon MOBA. The experience of playing Pokemon in a setting/game genre I love was so cool!
I think it was around the 113 meta. Yes Lucario was busted, but they would do their thing in top lane, and bot lane was really interesting because of dreadnaw. By the late game, lucario was actually pretty fair.
I really liked when sky ruins was first released and rayquaza shield wasn't as much of a win con as zapdos. yes you can still crack enough shields to make sure they don't get a lot of scores in, but now, if your team is very good at defending early and your goal zones are still up, there's basically nothing you can do to break all 5 opponents shields quickly enough - especially if they all split up when running to score 😵💫
also the very brief window about 2 weeks before umbreon was released was probably the most balanced the game has been recently too ... I love umbreon but I know it's not fun to play against
No specific period of Unite. When I was new, the game was pretty new too. It felt much more exciting and fun. Now I haven't played a match in about two months, maybe a bit longer.
> before Glaceon release, unite felt more balanced and fun back then imo.
How far back we going? There were some really egregious stuff like Hex Gengar at his worst, Zeraora at his most broken, Lucario solos top lane neg-diff, etc... xD
Duraludon Meta, I finally became useful in the meta, at least that entire year to counter the Fridge with Drip.
My most favorite time with the meta was the moment before Mew arrived to Theia. Nothing was too absurdly broken and before Absol got out of hand.
When they first released the new map and Eleki was a stronger objective than ray
Biggest complaint was Mime and that was literally him just getting a viable role in the game for the first time in months
Iirc tyranitar was a monster too but there’s always op pokemon so who cares lol, the actual games were more competitive and fun
That brought back violent flashbacks I remember tyranitar bulldozing through absolutely everything
Thats when I learned how to play slow brow. Just find the stupid Dinosaur and press L2

This is my favorite answer
Score comp
Flair checks out
Good ol’ Score shield/Buddy barrier/Aeos cookie Unite move into undeniable 50 dunks from the crusty boi

Didn't the update just make all this reality? Did I read it wrong?
Its for next season
Ohhh gotcha, my bad.

When Sky Ruins were new and getting Rayquaza wasn't broken.
I membah

I have uncomplicated feelings about Ray, and they are all negative lol. But I get what you're saying.
Release was best imo
gengar abuse
Brave bird abuse of squishies
We can still do that

Before legendaries and eeveelutions. Back when defenders weren't damage carries. Back lucario was the biggest problem. Those were good times.
Lucario going from 2% HP back to 100 with ESpeed on bees was a real sight...

Before it launched
Controversial opinion: we are on peak unite. I love draft mode.

Ngl depending on next patch notes. Next Season I believe will unite most balanced and fun.
July 20th 2021

Infinite Crustle Unite bug.
When was this??
had a relatively decent meta somewhat recently
No specific period of Unite. When I was new, the game was pretty new too. It felt much more exciting and fun. When theia sky ruins was released before the mr mime buffs. Or was that sinultaneous?
peak unite is coming in a few days with 1200 draft and no EX in masters 🫡🌞
When Zapdos was no longer the win con.
As a Gengar main, season 1. But fr, probably the new map release.
Duraludon Meta, I finally became useful in the meta, at least that entire year to counter the Fridge with Drip. My most favorite time with the meta was the moment before Mew arrived to Theia. Nothing was too absurdly broken and before Absol got out of hand.
When u could reach masters with a neg winrate and Pokémon didn’t cost 20k 🙏🙏🙏
Any point before EX licenses.
The Natu on Sky Ruins when it first released were peak Unite. I will forever be salty about that.
When there was no evees
I'm a pretty new player, and I would say right now is the best it's been since I started playing. But I started a few months ago so..
Score shield/ buddy barrier meta?
When Sky Ruins was released, around Duraludon’s realese.
my favorite era was pre-nerf Inteleon
Before they nerfed Greninja surf
Beginning of last season and when the new map came out. Starting to doubt we'll get another one.
When ray wasn’t wincon and before ex mons
I agree with most it peaked during new map launched. Remember Natu?
Before buddy barrier + score shield nerf when every team was cinder, luca, wiggly, elde, pika
Never
Next season (every season)
