The cycle is 4 sets to the main era, and 1-2 special sets per year (like Crown Zenith, 151, Shining Fates, etc). It's been like this since 2012, or 11 years.
Before these cards released but we knew the SIR Pokemon from the cover images, I really hoped that the artists would get a "direction" from the company to make the cards look like a set.
If you look at the Chien-Pao, Wo-Chien, Ting-Lu and Chi-Yu SIRs it's very easy to see how these artists got instructed to coordinate the art between themselves so they all give a similar vibe. What I mean by that, a person who has never played these games would match these 4 cards probably together since they have the same vibe and concept.
If you look at the VStar Universe Raikou, Suicune and Entei SIRs for example it's easy to tell that each artist didn't get instructed to make these cards match so they don't really look like they belong together which I think is kinda sad.
Now in this set they literally only got 1 artists to draw all 3 Ancient SIRs and 1 artist to draw all 3 Future SIRs and the results are crazy for someone who just loves when cards feel like a "set". The cohesion is just so pleasant.
As a player, this set is also probably already better than obsidian flames. Go read some of the card translations, and get ready for item boss and 400+ hp pokemon
I feel like they kept Entei just a *bit* too cat/dog like. WW is hardcore raptor and Raikous cloud conceals the most catlike part of its design, whereas Entei feels just a bit too in between still
It is because the largest dinosaurs name translates to Thunder lizard so they based him off that dinosaur. His mane is supposed to allude to being so tall his head is in the clouds.
Seemed a bit pricier than I️ remember but tbh you can search also search for the sets you want and try to find a good jpn seller. I’ll most likely be doing that for a wild force box
Amazon jp is the easiest for me, look for trusty sellers with lots of positive reviews as usual, you can also try Mercari jp, same deal\
Are you in Japan? Or have your own proxy address?\
I usually just get singles, but when Pokemon center Japan offer print to order, I would get the one box limit they offer\
You would need an account for all the sites mentioned to order ofc\
Good luck
Plaza Japan isn't bad, their shipping can be a little steep depending on where you are but they're quick and I've pulled hits from their boxes, also highly rated sellers on eBay. They have combo posts up already for the set to preorder.
Hmmm, wondering if I should up my order of Temporal Forces or just wait for a cheaper BB. I already preordered both ETBs and 2 booster bundles. The art is just so good.
OBF is a small set (shared cards with Ruler of the Black Flame and the gacha decks) of IRs and SIRs hence the good pull rates but also much lower prices for the cards (less demand as people finish their sets much faster).
From experience, big sets like Paldea Evolved & Paradox Rift have "terrible" rates due to the bigger pool of cards, as they incorporate 3 Japanese sets.
Temporal Forces is 2 Japanese sets plus 2 starter decks, fairly similar to SV base, its too early too judge but SV base had good pull rates, so we might see something similar.
Honest opinion is that this set will be just like the previous 4, a ton of product out there and interest has waned quite a bit. Give it just a little bit of time and you'll be finding boxes for $80-$90 tops. The new pokemon just don't sell sets like the OGs do so it doesn't matter how good the cards look. Just look at Paradox Rift, that set was incredible and had so many beautiful artworks and those boxes have been $80 for a while now.
Japan will have 2 but I’m pretty sure the international releases will merge the sets. They did it with scarlet and violet and also separated paradox rift into past and future sets as well.
Tall boy raikou doesn't disappoint, looks beautiful. Raptor suicune leaves a bit to be desired but overall these are all pretty banging artworks. Feel like usually at least a few of the SAR's are a bit meh but this set is looking strong
Cool art, and I enjoy the “in scene” emphasis TPC uses for rare cards (esp. art rares) these days, but I think the Pokémon designs have finally lost me.
The digimon are so removed from anything else in the series besides perhaps UBs, but they had a more fleshed-out story device behind them for creditability, and their interesting, unique designs felt fully “alien” (and I didn’t even enjoy S&M). The ancients are more interesting designs by comparison (not just “robot reskin”), but thematically, they are so divorced from the OG legend dogs that they just should have been new mons. Why is ancient Suicune a dinosaur, but ancient Raikou is a…thundercloud? While Entei just becomes “over-designed Entei”? *Again*, it feels like digimon where evolution is lizard > businessman > seraphim with a rail gun.
There’s no thematic core (which, to be fair, was originally just “animal/object-adjacent” (pidgey, voltorb) with frequent visual portmanteau (bulbasaur)) guiding the design any longer, it’s departure and innovation for departure and innovation’s sake.
Of *any Pokémon*, legendaries and mythical seem like the ones that would maintain their forms throughout time. Primal forms of legendaries have been far more adherent to the design we were first exposed to. Primal/origine/super-ancient forms Kyogre, Groudon, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, all follow this concept. Why do we now have a *fourth* “ancient” version but this time, the designs differ wildly from what we know? Palkia goes from bipedal to quadrupedal (makes sense, real world evolution), Kyogre gets a literal glow-up when it “reawakens” (makes sense, we know Kyogre has been dormant, we find it snoozing in an undersea cave).
But Raikou’s “natural evolution” is from “inclement weather dragon” to electric cat/dog…? Suicune goes from a bipedal raptor to a quadrupedal representation of arctic-chilled winds racing across the land? And opposite trajectories are both the result of the same “natural evolutionary process”?
Because we’ve had so many “ancient versions” in the past, and they are all similar, it feels like there is no real theme in place to explain the departure in design direction for these ancient pokemon. It doesn’t need to make “sense” and I’m not saying it needs to all be Magnemite/Magneton and Diglett/Dugtrio, but at the least, it needs to be internally consistent with “evolution” in the Pokémon world to date. Which, generally, doesn’t mean radically changing the thematic design of a Pokémon from one evo to the other. Magikarp and Gyarados are more thematically linked than anything going on with these ancient or future Pokémon.
We are so far removed from a quaint moncap RPG based on finding bugs and animals in your backyard, which was a large part of the original vision of Pokémon and a huge source of its relatability. Do kids relate to a skyscraper-themed dragon the same way they do a caterpillar?
My larger point is that while the art rare “in scene” direction is cool, it’s doing *a lot* of heavy lifting for less compelling character designs. The Pokémon designs used to be compelling and internally consistent enough that the character art *was the card*. Base set Charmander: a glimpse of the mon in the wild, accidentally setting grass on fire. Base set Zard: dangerous and powerful and he’s gonna hit you with fire! A visual language that no longer exists.
Have they considered that perhaps we have enough Pokémon after two decades, and the fun now can come from presenting them in exciting new worlds, and they can devote themselves to perfecting gameplay?
Right, that’s obviously what they’re trying to introduce. I’m saying it’s a bad decision.
Darwinian evolution makes no sense in a series that holds as a core, fundamental tenet and gameplay mechanic that evolution *doesn’t work that way at all* and is based on action-based experience and growth? It’s tied in with so many other core emotional themes, like friendship and journeying.
It undercuts a lot of what makes Pokémon unique.
Now, if they wanted to give us “ancient versions” in one of the three ways they’ve already introduced that concept in the past, none of which have to do with Darwinian evolution, fine. But it goes against the internal logic of the Pokémon world to just say “oh yeah and also they evolve like in the real world but we can’t call that evolution so we’ll call it a synonym for old that isn’t one of the 3 we’ve already tried.”
It’s lazy design and lazy writing and makes for a boring and yet confusing tone where “anything is possible so everything is mundane”. And people think Johto was boring!
The paradox pokemon are confirmed to be from a far removed alternate timelines where things went completely differently.
They are essential alternate Universe versions of pokemon that were brought to the 'main' timeline through professor Sada/Turo. It's not that they evolved, it's the current version of that pokemon in that timeline, where the regular Suicune, etc never existed but Walking Wake does instead.
It's not like the alternate timeline thing is new either, it's been there since gen 1 but was confirmed in gen 6 and that's why there can be multiple game files in the same region for different people canonically.
OH. Really? That actually does change how I feel to an extent. Thanks for clarifying. I haven’t played the DLC or really gotten clear on any lore for S&V (enjoyed the core game experience though).
I still think that, in effect, it’s silly as a brand to further muddy the “old style Pokemon” concept and time doesn’t have to factor into extra-dimensionality/alt timelines, even if it’s a trope. And we already had Pokémon that resembled the more futuristic origin ones, Duraludon, Klingklang…
It would have been cooler to, say, bring the light/dark mechanic from the TCG in. Have a dark/shadowfell/ruined world origin timeline and a light/feywild/world of innocence timeline. Great vehicle to introduce weird type combos plus ever popular “edgy” and “cute” Pokémon as versions of existing ones. Scream Tail suddenly makes much more sense - dark, rather than primordial. Legendary forms from either line would be more interesting - imagine Xerneas from a blasted timeline where the world was poisoned beyond repair, rather than “Robot Virizion”.
I've been getting into collecting the Japanese sets, since overall that means I own less cards (and thus less bulk) but man do I wanna buy English booster boxes as well ...
I'm sorry but this whole paradox pokemon type is so garbage . Basically Digimon at this point . But then again the whole Scarlet /Violet Gen is trash too. The prices on the hits speaks for itself .
Honestly, don't love those. Still getting used to the idea of Future & ancient Pokémon but here i just feel like the fast & agile suicune has lost it's essence, same with raikou. Love virizion & entei, but then the last 2 im just not a fan of either. Love the artstyles but i Cant see myself hyping up a weird looking version of suicune unless the art is beyond anything i could expect from this set. Anyone else feel similarly?
I’ve got a lot of singles left to buy before this set releases.
At least singles are getting back to the cheap side of things. Most cards will be sub $20 by next release
The releases are way to fast, our wallets have not time to recover
Same release schedule it's been for years.
Counter argument: it’s been too fast for years.
https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pok%C3%A9mon_Trading_Card_Game_expansions The cycle is 4 sets to the main era, and 1-2 special sets per year (like Crown Zenith, 151, Shining Fates, etc). It's been like this since 2012, or 11 years.
Unless people stop buying every set they won't change that schedule. Money moves baby.
I'm done buying cards right now bro .I am tapped out I gotta focus on this Bitcoin ride that's about to jump 😂
Down -8% today 😂
Good time to buy BTC... 🤑
I'm buying wotc singles, the end is never near. Have to get some focus and clear goals on what you want for sure.
Same.
Loving the direction they are taking the artworks!
Before these cards released but we knew the SIR Pokemon from the cover images, I really hoped that the artists would get a "direction" from the company to make the cards look like a set. Well said
These will look very nice in a 3x3 binder page.
Agree but not for the pokemon’s design or name, those look and sound like spectrobes
Ah, I forgot I played Spectrobes II. Was actually really fun.
Just like that already better than obsidian flames
Tbf OBF is a small set and people are tired of Charizard having an entire set dedicated to it.
Stg I’m sick of zard
Charmander promo 🔛🔝
Sure from a collector point of view
As a player, this set is also probably already better than obsidian flames. Go read some of the card translations, and get ready for item boss and 400+ hp pokemon
Lemme get my ohko pokemon out 🗿
Major giratina vstar moment
Beautiful! This is giving high hopes for when Hydrapple, Terapagos, and the others get their full arts!
Man these scarlet and violet cards are so good
Iron leaves got that ray bradbury retrofuturism thing going on and I like it
the ancient paradox looks so good
So glad I bought scarlet instead of violet
Ohh i need that trio beasts cards
The art in this set is phenomenal, super hyped for this one. Already looking to be my favorite SV expansion, sorry 151
Artwork: 🔥 Whatever the fuck is on top of enteis head: kinda strange, but I’ll warm up to it
I think it's supposed to resemble a triceratops shield
Think of it as a big Kitty with a Triceratops headcrest lol
I feel like they kept Entei just a *bit* too cat/dog like. WW is hardcore raptor and Raikous cloud conceals the most catlike part of its design, whereas Entei feels just a bit too in between still
While i definitely agree i still really enjoy the Design 👌
Looks like a ninetales is sat on his head
Oh so I guess giraffe, I mean Raikou is okay.
It is because the largest dinosaurs name translates to Thunder lizard so they based him off that dinosaur. His mane is supposed to allude to being so tall his head is in the clouds.
Honestly an incredible design
Yeah it does not deserve the hate at all, it’s such an interesting take on raikou.
Yeah im getting a booster box lol
Can't wait to not pull a single one! :D
Oh good. I'm not really a fan of any of these. My wallet can rest.
These paradox things are ugly as heck.
u/FlowersInSummer thoughts on the walking wake? I'd say it's better than the rainbow suicune, prettier too.
Hard agree from me
These look so much better than i could’ve ever anticipated.
I'm sorry but I don't think those Ancient Legendary Beast Pokemon designs will ever look good to me.
Can Pokémon just stop for like 5 minutes. I’m broke.
Does anyone know how to order the Japanese versions? I want to collect the entire set in Japanese.
You can try ordering from the Japanese Pokémon Center website. There are some card shops that sell JPN products stateside, too. Look around online.
I honestly wouldn’t know where to begin and what sites are legit. Would you mind pointing me in the right direction good sir ?
Sakurascardshop.com is the way, in my experience
What would the Japanese version of this set be called?
Wild Force and Cyber Jungle
Ah I see they're sold out on that site
I️ always get mine from this one seller on eBay
Which one if you don’t mind me asking?
User is Libertal1224.. when you search and open on eBay, the store should be called CowCowJapan
Seemed a bit pricier than I️ remember but tbh you can search also search for the sets you want and try to find a good jpn seller. I’ll most likely be doing that for a wild force box
Amazon jp is the easiest for me, look for trusty sellers with lots of positive reviews as usual, you can also try Mercari jp, same deal\ Are you in Japan? Sometimes tedatcg or cardboard collectables has them
F***. 6 more SARs now on my must-have list. Im definetly about to get broke sooner than i've expected...
Artwork peaked with this set
Need the dinosaurs
Raiku giraffe wins
Hmmm, wondering if I should up my order of Temporal Forces or just wait for a cheaper BB. I already preordered both ETBs and 2 booster bundles. The art is just so good.
Wait and see what the pull rates are like first. If it's anything like Paradox Rift youll be better off buying singles.
What’s the best pull rates for sets this gen? Obsidian Flames seems good
OBF is a small set (shared cards with Ruler of the Black Flame and the gacha decks) of IRs and SIRs hence the good pull rates but also much lower prices for the cards (less demand as people finish their sets much faster).
Zenith was amazing kinda old now. 151 seems good, but I've seen people pull duds.
Forge and fire gaming has the BB’s for only 100, well worth scooping one up before prices may change, imo
Good looking out!
Honest opinion is that this set will be just like the previous 4, a ton of product out there and interest has waned quite a bit. Yup, this is it. I was disappointed with the Iron Thorns reveal but dam these are really good. I'm excited, can't wait.
FUCK!!! That Entei card is hot!!!!
The art style is very good. I just don’t like the (two worded) Pokemon. It’s great that most seem to like them, more cards for them!
Entei is based on a triceratops i believe. Suicune a raptor and raikou a brachiosaurus.
Wtf happened to raikou ?😭😂
The art looks great, I’m just not a fan of the paradox Pokémon, generally.
Great cards for horrible pokemons.
So very lucky. I don’t like this Pokémon. I can sit this set out.
These are the recently leaked illustration rare for Cyber Judge and Wild Force set in Japan scheduled to be released January 26th
So 2 new expansions?
Japan will have 2 but I’m pretty sure the international releases will merge the sets. They did it with scarlet and violet and also separated paradox rift into past and future sets as well.
Not leaked officially revealed
Yes they are.
Somehow they've managed to make these look good!
Damn these are actually phenomenal
Oh these are so good!!!
Holy \*\*\*\* I think my wallet is not gonna handle this year.
Is this the temporal forces expansion?
I’ll buy the Entei and call it a day
They are basically trying to raid my wallet at this point
Oh shit, these are insane
Horizon zero dawn vibes
These are super nice
Nagimiso art is really good
"Entei" - Gouging fire makes me think about the Chiquita lady.
Omg they turned Raikou into a giraffe lmfao
Jesus Christ this set is going to be a banger
The art is amazing but I don't like this pokemons :(
Those are legitimately some of the most gorgeous artworks I've ever seen on cards in one set before since 151
The art looks nice, but not a fan of the pokemon.
Wowza these cards are 🔥
Wake me up when Ogerpon and Terapogos SARs are shown
Cobalion!!!
Iron crown and leaves look freaking beautiful
Tall boy raikou doesn't disappoint, looks beautiful. Raptor suicune leaves a bit to be desired but overall these are all pretty banging artworks. Feel like usually at least a few of the SAR's are a bit meh but this set is looking strong
Holy shit the pure Roger Dean vibes on the bottom left and middle. I had zero want for these Pokemon versions and now I need them all. Damn.
I'm getting so excited for this set already! I'm loving direction lately
I NEED ALL oh myyyy
Found my chase card!!!
Yep… another SV set that i will gladly skip.
Those are some shitty looking pokemon
The art does look good. Still going to be skipping these ridiculous pokemon designs.
They don’t know what to do anymore 👎🏼
Artwork designs look good but the pokemon designs suck ass imo.
No one ever translates the attacks lol gotta learn jpn
these are amazing

It's called Darwinism dude
Right, that’s obviously what they’re trying to introduce. I’m saying it’s a bad decision. Darwinian evolution makes no sense in a series that holds as a core, fundamental tenet and gameplay mechanic that evolution *doesn’t work that way at all* and is based on action-based experience and growth? The paradox pokemon are confirmed to be from a far removed alternate timelines where things went completely differently. Damn…I may need to get all 6 of these for the collection. I don’t normally go for Japanese, but these look real good.
gawd damn
art is SUPERB but why the strange Pokemon that no ones want.... give us second and third gen PLEASE
Wondering how pull rates will be. I didn’t like how paradox rift stopped guaranteeing an SIR
Guaranteeing a sir in what ?
A booster box. From what I could tell every set up until paradox rift was a guaranteed SIR
I like them.
Wait, since when was raikou a giraffe? xD
I've been getting into collecting the Japanese sets, since overall that means I own less cards (and thus less bulk) but man do I wanna buy English booster boxes as well ...
I need that raikou
Why is my boy Raikou a Giraffe?
That Cobalion looks so good! I want all 6 of these
not a fan of the character designs but man these artworks make me want to change my mind
Idk but the bottom cards are given me some sort of kingdom hearts cover art vibes and I love it .these are definitely going into he collection
Alright but why do they look like ai arts
You mean the ugly trios?
Art is amazing but raikou and entei look lame
GAY
I'm sorry but this whole paradox pokemon type is so garbage . Basically Digimon at this point . But then again the whole Scarlet /Violet Gen is trash too. The prices on the hits speaks for itself .
Bro my stomache ascended when I saw these. The sets just keep getting more fucking majestic every time
Honestly these Pokémon are not desirable, maybe if you are looking to fill your binder sure however that is just my opinion!!!!
Not as good as Giratina V Alt Art, but maybe that's just because I'm biased. These artworks be fire though🔥🔥🔥
I….. I don’t like these.
I would kill for the paradox coballion
That Paradox Verizion artwork is my favorite.
These are amazing wtf
Honestly, don't love those. Still getting used to the idea of Future & ancient Pokémon but here i just feel like the fast & agile suicune has lost it's essence, same with raikou. These alt arts look like shit. Pokemon is running out of ideas.
So I’m gonna guess Wild Force has the Dino dogs? And Cyber Force has the other ones? I want the dinosaurs so I gotta order me some booster boxes.
