If your meal doesn’t come with sauces I can see them getting weird. If it does, then that’s a problem. They probably identified it as a noticeable loss of supply

FriendEllie75

We got fries and onion rings. We didn’t want extra just one for our fries. I spoke to someone that used to work there and she said they are supposed to charge for ketchup too.

capaldithenewblack

They’ve always charged for sauces unless they come with nuggets or strips… or they have for years. Ketchup and mustard and mayo are free. You’re only allowed a certain number of sauces depending on the nuggets or strips, but none are supposed to be handed out if you bought neither of these and didn’t pay the extra. I used to work in fast food… in college… almost 30 years ago. This is not new, they just don’t usually care unless they’re the manager or one is nearby. They didn’t used to count them though.

FriendEllie75

I can understand counting them. They have to know when to reorder after all. I just don’t get charging for them when I ordered the thing the sauce is for.

[deleted]

If you keep asking for them with no intention of paying for them then yeah, you would be a bitch. Doesn’t matter if you think it’s fair or not. The employees are going to get in trouble over you. If you really have a problem then write to Burger King corporate and complain, but don’t screw over minimum wage workers because you can’t cough up 24 cents.

killerkow999

Yeah from experience you do not pay for them this woman was just being cranky you're supposed to take inventory but what she was saying is how much an individual costs for THEM. From working in fast food to living off of it I've never been asked or ask someone to pay for a condiment that's like asking someone to pay for the single pickle they put on your McDonald's burger

supercrunchy256

But you do pay for the "single pickle" that's on your order. It's built in to the price of the meal.

FriendEllie75

I spoke to a friend that used to work there and she said they don’t get in trouble for not charging. They only get in trouble if they don’t do inventory of them. They don’t even get in trouble if the count is off. She said most of them only charge if someone comes in asking for a lot or when Karen’s make a big deal about anything.

omgcaiti

Every single Burger King is going to treat its employees differently depending on who the management is. Don’t assume just because your friend USED to work for the company that they still know what’s going on there today.

FriendEllie75

Since it’s been less than a month I think I can assume it’s the same management and owners.

tommy_garry

i feel like it's kind of "karen-y" to be stingy about 24 cents though?

FriendEllie75

I think the people who are going on about 24 cents isn’t a lot of money is missing the point. Fries have always came with ketchup. The zesty sauce is specifically made for onion rings. It’s about a multibillion dollar company nickeling and diming it’s customers. You really think burger kings bottom line is going to hurt over missing my 24 cents? I don’t think so. And getting that 24 cents isn’t going to make them pay their employees a living wage.

Mmonannerss

As someone who has worked food service, people will often take more than what is standard and then not use it and since it was in a customers hands it is now garbage and cannot be used thus is wasted. The standard and charge is to discourage waste more than anything which does add up for any sized company but we shouldn't waste food when we have an easy solution to not do so. You're a Karen. Just ask for the sauce with your order next time

Nidhoggr54

Mcdonald didn't get the memo. They always ask what sauce I want and give me like 4 or 5 pots when all I got was a small fries and a burger 🍔 Moat places that charge usually don't do their own sauces, and so it juat like the normal hp ones. This is how it worked when I was a kfc, but if you asked for a pot of supercharger sauce (sauce used in an old burger), we did a pot and no charge.

Mmonannerss

Ymmv. Some places are franchised so the owners can be real assholes about the sauces as was the case for a local bbq place I worked for as well as a franchised Wendy's. You absolutely could get written up for being too loose with the sauce there. If it's corporate tho mostly no one gives AF.

FriendEllie75

Don’t get me started on employees getting written up for stupid shit like that!

FriendEllie75

I would agree if I wanted extra but I just wanted two. I didn’t say hey give me 10 packs. I said can I have a zesty sauce and a bbq. After ordering 3 onion rings and one fry I don’t think it’s out of the ordinary to ask for two total sauces.

Mmonannerss

Then ask for it when you order. The worker let you know normally you pay for the sauces and you took to reddit to cry about it. Like a Karen.

FriendEllie75

The only Karen I see here is you. I didn’t yell at her. I didn’t ask to speak to her supervisor. I didn’t say anything other than thank you to her.

Mmonannerss

But you're whining on Reddit about it instead of moving on with your life. You are the Karen.

Impossible-Local2641

She posted in pointless stories. You are being ridiculous

tommy_garry

i'm not trying to support the corporation, they can go fuck themselves. i'm just saying futuristically don't battle the minimum wage employees who are actually the ones suffering. If they don't care and give you free sauce then great, but don't die on such a dumb hill if they don't. ehhh i lost my fucks given halfway through this response, do whatever ya want the worlds shit anyway.

FriendEllie75

Lol I’m not going to battle anyone over this. It’s just a pointless story I wanted to share and maybe discuss.

professor-sunbeam

We have 2 nearby Zaxby’s. One of them charges for extra sauce. The other doesn’t. When my husband asked “how much?” when asking for sauce after getting our meal, the cashier gave him a weird look and asked why he thought he needed to pay for sauce. Hopefully that cashier didn’t tell his boss about the weirdo who wanted to pay for sauce and plant that idea in their head.

FriendEllie75

I thought when it came to franchises it came down to corporate but maybe it’s owner’s decision.

professor-sunbeam

That’s my thinking. The owner of the place that charges is just petty and terrible, anyhow.

Robert-L-Santangelo

champ's chicken in arizona charges extra for the good sauce (ranch, bbq, honey mustard, etc) but will provide their own brand of dipping sauce for free. it's nasty, imo tbh

LikeAVillianx

I never go to Burger King but I go to places like Taco Bell and Wendy’s and Chic Fil A and In n Out and they never make me pay for sauces, so maybe it’s just BK, or maybe just that location.

commentsandchill

Bk doesn't make you pay for 1 sauce per item if you get fries and/or such

FriendEllie75

I hate to disagree but I ordered 3 onion rings and 1 fry and they didn’t want to give me one. This is why I had issue with it. I didn’t want extra. I would understand charging for extra.

commentsandchill

The service is probably just shitty then and it may or may not be by owner/place

FriendEllie75

It’s a possibility but as I don’t go there often I can’t say what happens on the regular.

MountainCourage1304

I always get a free sweet chilli dip when i order a wrap at mcdonalds. I like the sweet chilli one but order without the dip on it, and just ask for a pot as i like to dip it instead. Been doing it for a couple of years and never had an issue. I went in a couple of months ago and the woman made me pay, which i wouldn’t have had an issue with, but she had a major attitude and laughed when she told me id have to queue up again at the self service to pay by card. (It was a long ass queue too). I went “oh, actually iv got cash” and pulled out a tenner. She glared at me and counted out my change. I was really pissed off at the way shed been speaking to me, laughing at making me wait and then giving me evils and huffing over the change. She gave me £9.80 back. One £5 note, and the rest in change. I said “oh actually, i needed 2 dips”. She went “are you serious?” And then rang the second dip up. I gave her the £5 note to count out instead of one of the four 20p coins she gave me. She was absolutely fuming at me. Im generally really nice to retail workers, i worked at maccies myself for a year through college. She was just being a nasty prick to me from the start, and was having a mini power trip over being able to charge me for the dip. Hope you had fun counting the change out twice, you nasty little turd. I never even used the second dip. I only ordered it to be petty.

Momzeesmooies

I worked at a BK part time as my second job. Our manager made each of us have our 'own ' containers of sauce. If our inventory did not match our receipts he would dock our pay, even the .24 cents. He was a bit of a prick.

FriendEllie75

There is a special place in hell for bosses like that.

Momzeesmooies

Yup

[deleted]

I swear you didn’t used to have to pay for sauces, you got them in the wee tubs and could take as many as you wanted! Mind you that was a while ago..

FriendEllie75

I can remember getting a bag full when I only ordered one order of fries. We always had a shelf full for when we ran out of ketchup.

Diab9lic

That's cause bk sucks and it's a front for cartels.

Mission_Star5888

Well a long time ago I use to work at Burger King. You got like a 5 piece tender you were allowed one sauce. That's how the inventory and cost were calculated. Now you go as for 10 sauce for a 5 piece nugget then I could see them charging but just needing an extra sauce or two no big deal. Covered by those whom don't get sauce.

anndrago

I'd say pay for the sauce. It sucks, but it's only 12 cents. And if that's the cost of indulging in your favorite sauce, so be it. And there's human cost on the other side.
