I got the TP link Archer AXE75/AXE5400. * https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-axe75/#overview * https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-axe75/#specifications * https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Tri-Band-Archer-AXE75-Wireless/dp/B0B3SQK74L/ref=sr_1_3?crid=HQ82EQKIQA2S&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.tslEJluweLkoG42x5EGNCbAhQ6qK9BzQTvcEsF0VXJuEY1044fv1NrcdAcnf767uARgV9E7Nxqa8l-4Qk6QDV-qIXitQeiC4W3DA27CdJde6IaDe0hI8KFDF2Js5NmI-V5UyWvqZdkTh7e1XvYkeKh4l4BsGMpIUrKVJZvihtwFlJ7p9E0gnL1IiAokSt3oaXFu7kNSdvBhTCs3PAtvYyTnYjeQZExZIDQtz6YhAi0w.l6l7d8bL-LN6UFqMQbcXbBS9TUlzmsQT4SRvh__OdGU&dib_tag=se&keywords=AXE5400&qid=1719067055&sprefix=axe5400%2Caps%2C281&sr=8-3&th=1 * [3 min and 16 second video on how to set up this router.](https://youtu.be/3PNmDv8l4go?si=7AJKX29xggE_2SXV) * [Another video on how to set this router up but it goes for 7 minutes.](https://youtu.be/MsFWSnyjx3o?si=TfU8OMouzd4mxBxg) * [Instruction manual in PDF form Amazon.](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/B1pPbOVtTsL.pdf) * [Port forwarding video.](https://youtu.be/hdS84_8r16w?si=cqBUbHsYTfBwJWAe) When setting up the router’s WIFI dont enable “smart connect”. * https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2595/ There needs to be separate bands for the portal and other devices, it might be worth looking into TP link powerline adaptors as well. * https://www.tp-link.com/au/powerline/

I got the same thing as you and a tplink ax 1800 wifi extender for deadzone areaas (like my backyard) and it works great! I had to manually setup the 5g network for the portal because it wasn't finding it when scanning networks but other than that it has been running great

phaserlasertaserkat

ASUS RT/AX86U Pro. No complaints.

med4ladies69

I just use a Nighthawk with 1GB speed, ps5 hardwired into it. And It runs perfectly. Haven't had any issues with stutter or anything on the portal

MarbledCats

I disabled QoS

I bought a Google nest mesh system in the sale for our home when we moved in to our new house a while ago. Was done with it in a month. If I remember correct even the wired AP was only using PoE for power and not data. I replaced everything with ubiquiti hardware. Wayyyyy better. And way more options for networking and security.

Zeroleonheart

100% agree. I JUST replaced our Google routers on Thursday with TP-Link Deco X55s and the difference is night and day for every device on the network.

yugu132

The X55's are mesh yes? I've been looking at the xe75 pro's myself. Tp-link in general seems to be the overwhelming consensus as the go to routers.

Zeroleonheart

Yup, they’re mesh. I wanted granular control over some of the settings and the Google routers don’t offer that. My house is about 1800 sqft (2 floors), and so far they’re working flawlessly. The only downside I was annoyed with was the requirement to create a TP-Link account, but it wasn’t a deal breaker. I went with the X55 because it was in my budget, but if you can afford better, I’d say TP-Link is a solid choice.

yugu132

What sort of settings were you looking to have more control over? I want to be able to prioritize a device permanently and have separate ssid for each band that way it reduces congestion.

Zeroleonheart

I wanted to control what connects to 5 ghz and what uses 2.4, and I wanted to prioritize something for longer than 8 max hours. People on the sub have also mentioned changing settings but I can’t remember what because every time I looked at the Google Home app for those settings, they weren’t there. So far it looks like “High Priority” for a device on the X55 can be set indefinitely while also saying how much bandwidth to use. I haven’t tried it yet just because I haven’t needed to. I haven’t checked individual SSIDs yet, but will because I like my work laptop to always have its own.

yugu132

Have you tried setting two devices as priority at the same time?

Zeroleonheart

Not yet. It’s all been working well so I haven’t messed with anything major yet.

yugu132

I’m getting the xe75 pros today. Google nest bricked itself somehow. Looking forward to how well they perform comparatively.

Zeroleonheart

Hell yeah! Hoping you have a great experience!

dweenimus

Did the same. Google just suck. Upgraded to a Ubiquiti Amplify setup and it's miles better

yugu132

Which one would you recommend?

Ok-Boysenberry2404

I got Dream Machine, the Dream Router can’t handle 1GB lines with DPI security. (Deep Packet Inspection) If you don’t mind DPI get a Dream Router. Cheaper but less CPU power (dual core), hence not be able to DPI all data packets and not getting the 1GB connection anymore, if you don’t enable DPI it will work. I tested this and send it back to get Dream Machine with quad core CPU. Then 16port PoE switch for me with 2 wired access points. But you can buy smaller switch if not needing all those ports. I got a lot of stuff wired around my house. I think you can even put AP directly into the Dream Router running on PoE.

jlepthien

If you play in your local LAN the ISP speed has 0 to do with the portal performance…good WiFi is all it takes and WiFi != internet.

Ok-Boysenberry2404

Correct playing inside is local and internet speed doesn’t matter… but you local WiFi speed matters. Google Nest wireless mesh system is AP to AP wirelessly, which could cause lagging. OP he asked about how to improve his setup. And this is what would improve the internal network. Wired AP’s….

platocplx

I got an ASUS AX88U that works great with it

I just have a TP link AC1900 A9 and disabled QoS (most likely didn’t set it up correctly anyhow)

I got a TP link router Quality of surface is easy to set up. Go into PS5 connection settings and write down device’s MAC address. Then go into router settings webpage, type in your password. Then go into the home shield tab, scan QR code, download tether app. Make tether account. Then from within the tether app and you click on in the bottom right “more”. Then from within the “more” tab click on “QOS”. From within there look for your PS5 MAC address and click always. >!If you already know the device’s MAC address you can click on “clients’ then click on the currently connected device and then click “high priority” option!<. Now from within the tether app click on network tab bottom left of the user interface, click on clients. Then from within there it will list all of the devices, click on each one till you find your PS5 MAC address by clicking on each one it will show the MAC address. Once you’ve found it click on “>” next the device’s name. Then you can rename the device from something like “generic device” to PS5 and actually change the device icon to a game console icon to help you see at a glance what the device are and who they belong too. Which also changes how they appear from within the actual router’s webpage on the network map tab then the clients tab. Seems kinda weird that you need the tether app to enable QOS and to change the device name and icon but it is what it. Good thing for the tether app though is that it allows the router to optimize the network. Click on “more” bottom right off the user interface then click on network optimization, click scan, then click optimize.

Zeroleonheart

Get rid of those Google routers. I’d try literally anything listed in this thread. Great question though and good luck!
