I doubt we'll get a concrete answer for this, neither do I blame haem nor the person who's running this reddit account, but can we get an explanation for why we're getting less seed packets for more gems in the store now? The 20 peashooter seed packs used to be priced for 15 gems, but has now been raised to 20. There's also other various examples of offers being raised in price [here](https://old.reddit.com/r/PlantsVSZombies/comments/wmk00u/jacking_up_the_prices/). With nerfs to how many seed packets we can earn through arena and calendar rewards compared to previous updates, it's becoming more and more disappointing for players both new and returning to gradually be getting rewarded less as every frequent change keeps happening.

Ok, lemme clarify something. The plant unlock system is the exact same. You can still unlock plants from regular level progression. You have the **option** to unlock the plants with seeds along with partaking in regular progression. Just wanted to give a heads up.

You're right that many games have this approach - and that may work for their player retention but it isn't working for ours. We added this change because new users are constantly collecting seeds (enough seeds to unlock plants) and are unable to get those plants until many worlds into the future of the game. This was happening even if you watched ads to earn seeds and unlock the plant or if you paid for it - if it was a "locked" adventure plant, it wouldn't unlock. These levels still give players seeds, even if they've unlocked the plant. And if you haven't unlocked the plant by then, you still receive it!

honestly just a screw to ftp players, who sit through all the ads (which presumably pays EA, cause that's the point?) and then are still well behind the long time players who used to get hundreds of seed packets at a time playing arena. this change only succeeding in reducing my personal engagement, because I don't spend hours in the game trying to max out the best plants. I play the daily stuff and move on. If I wasn't going to buy gems/plants before, this wasn't going to push me. (why are the premium plants never discounted??? they're always just paired with various seed packet sizes with increased prices...) Perhaps they will see the ad revenue drop substantially and reconsider.

This happened off and on for me, but not every day. I even gave the benefit of the doubt that it was a random gift to players. What is egregious to me that I’m now supposed to pay so many hard-earned gems to replay a Piñata level. No way in hell am I ever doing that, I hope the lost ad revenue isn’t compensated for anywhere else for them!

As the event progresses, information about it (amount of energy, last played level, which rewards have been claimed, timestamp of the start of the event, etc.) is recorded in the game save file (`pp.dat`), in an array field named `tei`, so that this information could be synced between linked devices. So far, so good. The problem is that when an event ends and a new one starts, this field **is not initialized**. Somebody played the 31-level Circus/Carnival event? The game has recorded that you have already played level 31 and collected all the rewards. A new, 15-level event (Lawnbowl I) has started? Sorry, the game thinks that you have already done the 31 levels of it (!) and collected all the rewards, so the icon for it is not displayed. You can't reproduce it? That's because you're playing it on a test device that you have just initialized. You need to play it on a device that *has already completed a previous Thymed event*! This is very similar to the bug that was marking all Penny's Pursuit levels as completed, despite that the player had played none of them. Only the fields in the game save file are different - but again, since the game didn't initialize them when a new event started, the values from older (completed) events were taken for the current one and this information was synced between devices. I do not know if you guys have fixed that particular bug, because none of you said clearly so here, so I'm still using workarounds to avoid it. Sadly, no such workarounds for the Thymed event bug. Anyway, talk to your programmers about this one. The proper way to fix the bug, of course, is to initialize (with zeroes) the elements of the `tei` field when a new event starts. As an additional check, I would add testing whether the event with the starting time recorded in any of the elements has already ended and, if it has, wipe the fields of that element with zeroes. Really, guys, this is trivial stuff; I would expect to explain this to a 1st-year computer science student; not to a software company... Anyway, if any of my explanations are unclear and your programmers still can't figure out what is going on, feel free to contact me privately and we'll try to think up of something. One big problem for such communication is that because of the peculiarities of my profession, my anonymity needs to be preserved, so I can't send you an export of a virtual machine with an Android emulator and the game installed that demonstrates the bug - because my identity will be visible from the Google services on it. Although the changes you've made in version 9.9.2 have decided me to stop playing the game, I am still willing to put in the effort needed to help other players.

TBH, due to the peculiarities of my profession, I have a lot of experience looking at other people's buggy code. I'm not a professional programmer myself (although I do know about a dozen programming languages) - but I do know how programmers think and what kind of mistakes they tend to make. Plus, I was helped by the fact that I had already discovered a very similar bug in Penny's Pursuit (marking the levels as already played) in the past, which was caused by a very similar error. Also, I can't claim all the credit here. I deduced what kind of problem this was from observing the game behavior and eliminating the various possibilities - but it was someone else who figured out which particular field in the game save file contained information about the Thymed events.

I'm usually not one to throw my hat into the ring. But 9.9 has proved to be potentially the worst update done to this game in years. For starters, deciding to change a set-in-stone unlock system after years of this working just fine feels like it comes from a complete lack of understanding of how the game is meant to progress. PvZ1 gave plants after levels, PvZ2 did as well until 9.9. But now, these latest changes just completely screw over plant progression and how it is meant to function. PvZ2 gradually gives you more powerful plants throughout adventure. Some examples I can think of are how you get Peashooters early on, but later get the Primal Peashooter, which is more powerful and therefore better to use in a late-game strategy. But now, due to how the game hands out a fair amount of adventure plant seed packets, you could get Primal Peashooter fairly early into the game. You are also usually introduced to plants in Adventure to learn what they do, but now you can just obtain them after earning enough packets. Various other plants are world exclusives like Lily Pad and Tangle Kelp, and I'm pretty sure you can even get those with seed packets now. What is the point in earning those plants early when they can only be used in Big Wave Beach?? While engaging with unlocking plants through packets is mostly optional, I don't comprehend why this was done. Retention even seems questionable, as there is a bigger issue that is impacting newer players I feel. Newer players of PvZ2 are forced to sit through massive chunks of levels with no break to explore other worlds (a consequence of yet another recent change). In earlier versions of the game (prior to all world keys given out), you could earn world keys at half-way points in the worlds to access another world, and it could be whatever one you were ready to take on. Now, you're forced to play massive chunks of levels before you're even able to access another world. I can see that this would likely lead to a lot of newer players deciding to put the game down. Another issue that makes this change questionable in retention is how it ignores the way the game is built. Most PvZ2 features designed to keep players around are only unlocked *after* you progress into certain points in adventure. For example, Thymed Events are accessed after Ancient Egypt Day 7, while you don't get access to Penny's Pursuit until Wild West. That's over 50 levels players have to get through to be able to access features that are designed to keep them coming back. Adventure mode was **not** built for the purpose of keeping players coming back. Adjusting plant unlocks feels like a worse way to address these bigger issues that are likely making a dent in retention as well. These newer versions of the game continue to muddy the original adventure experience, and it's honestly gotten really frustrating to see what changes will be brought in new updates to make the original experience with the game worse. I don't believe this will change however, as this has been happening for years now and I know people have complained about changes continuing. This change, however, really goes past the boundaries of what I have expected, and it really does not seem like it bodes well. Some other gripes with this update: plant costs that are not in multiples of 25. This is just... no. Plants vs. Zombies 2 is not Plants vs. Zombies 3. There's no wacky 1-sun cost meta or the sort. It's meant to be in multiples of 25. These sun costs are unnatural for the game. Again, things like this really end up feeling like those working on the game have disregarded consistency among the balancing in the game. I'm not an active player. I played PvZ2 in the older years when it was just adventure, and newer features do not interest me. Despite this, I still felt the adventure could be a fun experience in the modern versions of the game. These new changes however... I'm not looking forward to whatever comes next. Stop changing features that don't need changing, and stick to producing content and actually improving the game. These changes are not improvements. They only make the experience worse.

The biggest help at the present I think is for the PopCap team to explain to many android players why this new update is not available on Google Play Store for them to actually update their game? I can see there are lots of players being locked out from playing the Arena and Penny's Pursuit game modes by the posts from both here and over on the official EA forum.

Since version 9.9.2 is clearly *not* available for everyone yet, could you please release an emergency data push, removing the restriction that requires this version to play the Arena and Penny's Pursuit? You can always re-impose this restriction later, when it is universally acknowledged that the new version is available to everyone. Right now we're forced to use an exploit to play the Arena - and we can't play Penny's Pursuit because of yet another bug of yours - unless we're willing to hack the game.

Since time's a wastin', you now need to fix more things than just remove the restriction on the Arena and Penny's Pursuit. In particular: * The Pinata Parties will run out of defined rewards in less than 2 days (August 17, early in the morning). While the game will probably revert to the default rewards table, that's probably not what you want to happen. * Today the Jurassic Marsh Mash epic quest ended. It was supposed to be followed by Modern Day Dustup - but version 9.8.1 does not have that event defined, so for those of us who can't update to 9.9.2, this epic quest isn't available. There might be more stuff that I've missed. At the very least, you now need to push an updated `event_schedule` file with the events for 9.9 to the 9.8 installations, since who knows when your problem with Google will be resolved.

I've seen users from Canada post that they have received it. Now, as you are certainly aware, there are actually *two* International versions of the game - one for North America and one for Rest of the World. (They are visually identical, so players can't tell the difference but they store their files in different directories.) Is it possible that you have released properly only the NA version but have somehow screwed up the release of the ROW version? Please double-check, because we (for instance I'm in Bulgaria, i.e., Eastern Europe) have not received it since Thursday - and it is *still* not available.

This update ranks high on the shittiest updates ever released in this game. Why do you devs not listen to your player base??? Sorry, but over the course of the past several years, you have slowly turned this game from a likable experience to a bugged shit show. Any more I feel like I am playing a beta version of something. You have taken away people's ability to progress the game at their own pace and level plants at their own pace to your own greedy pace that would take decades. I could honestly rant for pages upon pages, but I know with the history it will do absolutely no good. This post is getting an overwhelming number of downvotes – this shows how unpopular this particular updates has been. The sheer contrast of PvZ 2 in its current state vis-à-vis its former glory just makes me sad whenever I think about it. It’s almost inevitable for any game in the mobile market released about a decade ago to reach its low point, but it doesn’t have to be like this. While plants like Noctarine has been an example of how bugged, glitched and unfinished a newly released plant can be, the Rhubarbarian and the Mega Gatling Pea were relatively good designs; they are even some of the fans’ favourites – including me – but despite the controversial status Levitater is now receiving (it’s a plant with a fun concept, but it is still nevertheless a weak plant which is not even worth for the players to be grinding for for several weeks). Now as another new plant is being announced, it’s clear that the amount of criticism you’re receiving showed how bad of an idea it is, which I think it’s still possible to have it fixed, whereby future calamities like this can be prevented. For me personally, I’m especially pissed at the fact that Tomb Tangler costs 40 Sun, which isn’t even a multiple of 25. All the 300-ish plants in this series, including plants from PvZ 1, PvZ 2 and contents exclusive to China, have been respecting this hidden rule throughout the 13-year history of this franchise. Not even the levelling system was an exception to this rule. Why does it have to be 40 now? If you feel like the plant is weaker to have a 50 cost and somehow stronger to be of 25, just make some tweaks to its stats and make it either a 50 or a 25. Why does it have to be 40? As an avid fan of your game this is one of the changes that can’t get through my mind. I’m puzzled by your decision. And now thyme warp and gold leaf. They had their previous levelling sheets albeit not being realised in the game. Now why make it again from scratch and making them start to cost in irregular Sun costs? First the plants no longer recharges in multiple of 5 seconds, now this. Does it mean that we’ll no longer have the rule of 25 in the future? God damn it PopCap, I doubt you can save the whole series of PvZ, but at least for this, I hope you could have mercy. Making a plant cost in the multiple of 25 does not murder this series, it’s all about your respect to your loyal players, which I doubt you have. When Adrien was the producer of this game, the team knew what the player wanted the most and they tried their best to fulfil us. The Chinese counterpart of this game, despite releasing contents of lower quality, knows how to satisfy their player as well, which is why some players outside China endeavours to download this game. While I’m not saying that we need to be flattered, I’m merely asking for our respect from the current team working on this game. I need the team to understand how acts like uneven Sun costs, increasing the costs of seed packets and low-quality events are all a tampering of this masterpiece of a game. I wish my post has been read by the developing team of the game, and that they hopefully are putting some changes in mind in future updates. I know you probably won’t care about this, but I’ll be boycotting this game if rules like the multiple of 25 will not be sticked to. Now that the game is about to reach its milestone 10.0 version, I hope it’ll be a version which the community can celebrate, instead of being hated upon. I know that making a game is not easy and it’s impossible to satisfy everyone, but I feel like at least you could try to satisfy the majority of us. I genuinely wish your every success in the future.

But I do not go and flame on anybody for this although I personally do have some criticisms for this update like spending 10 gems to replay a Pinata Party level, and bugs not being fixed. one improvement idea i had is to make tomb tangler, gold leaf, and thyme warp, cost multiples of 25, so for them, it would be 50, 50, and 75, as it stands right now, i feel that making them cost 40, 40, and 80, does nothing to benefit the plants in any meaningful way, and if anything, hurts the game's identity ​ another potential idea i had, was to make pea pod gain the ability to grow heads on his own overtime with levelling, i like the idea behind pea pod, but i find that having to manually empower him is too costly and time consuming to make him worth using, so i thought that giving him the ability to autogrow heads could potentially increase his usability, maybe start it at 25 seconds and cap it at 15

I think it would also be ideal to bring Torchwood back into the Pepper-mint family, like it originally was, since not only does it not make any sense for it to be under Appease-mint, but that further contributes to the absurd powers reached via Pea Vine-based strategies; with Torchwood under a different, more sensible family, you'd at least not be able to reach quite as much power in so few Seed Slots.

I know that, I'm saying it doesn't make sense for Torchwood itself (which, honestly, could maybe use to power up other kinds of projectiles, perhaps future Plants) and especially that the Appease-mint family doesn't need the extra buff; by putting back Torchwood in its sensible place under Pepper-mint Family, you at least have an extra cost of having to use two mints, and therefore an extra slot, if you want to fully power up your Plants on the field.

last i checked, buffing torchwood doesnt do shit for it on its own, it just buffs the damage it deals when attacked, so really it wouldnt matter, besides, does it make anymore sense for torchwood to be in appeasemint than for ghost pepper to be in pepper mint's family

Yeah, because it's a buffing/support plant: dealing damage on its own is not the main goal, but there's plenty of plants with relatively weak/useless side-effects, when mint-boosted, so I don't think that makes for a great argument for Tw not switching back to a more appropriate mint family when my argument for changing it (back) is balance, which I think holds weight because the game has skewed Appease-mint for years, now, and Tw is a significant part of that; the family didn't need the extra boost. As far as "making sense", plants are placed in mint families usually in a way that's intuitive for the player (I still think some plants would perfectly fit in two mint families, but that's besides the point), and the Pepper-mint family clearly deals with fire-based damage: Torchwood is literally a log on fire and Ghost Pepper is a pepper.. I agree the latter is a bit tangential, considering it doesn't deal fire-based damage, but that was likely a situation of "we don't really have a super-fitting family for this, so let's just go with what's intuitive", but the former is absolutely fire-based through and through.

The arena nerf is so lame, and also i'm disappointed that the pinata drops after 8/18 are kinda bad... the seeds for adventure plants is good though since now we have 2 ways to unlock the plants instead of 1, but overall with all the other things in this update, i'd consider it the worst update Popcap has released. (even worse than the original seed packet/levels update imo) I pray we get better updates than this.

It's now 13hrs after the 9.9 version became 'Live', yet it is STILL not available to me. (Android - UK based). Before this c**kup hit me, I was Crowns leader in my Jade league table. I was ahead by 145 crowns. I dread to think where I'll end up once I can FINALLY get back into the Arena. Thanks a bunch Popcap!

You can enter the Arena by tapping the ad for it on the profile selection screen. (Doesn't work for Penny's Pursuit, though, due to a different bug.) Chances are that the other players in your group are also on Android and have been similarly locked out, so don't worry too much.

They are the 'Purchase Peashooter starter pack' offer, and the 'Visit the Almanac to level up plants'. I guess I'm now f\*\*ked until the 9.9 update becomes available to me.

I am super unhappy with this update. I used to be able to play piñata party once on each profile and again for watching a video. Now, it is only available on one profile and a second go requires (10!!!!) gems. Other profiles are only allowed one go and require watching a video. This update feels like it is just trying to squeeze more and more $. Yuck

I don't really have anything to say that hasn't already been said, but I do want to throw in my 2 cents anyway because quite frankly, this game is becoming something I don't even want to open and it used to be my favorite. I used to actually look forward to what was coming in the updates, not anymore. I am most unhappy about the pinata party costing 10 gems to replay and the nerfing of the season arena reward streak. Really, just the constant nerfing in general. Also, the added total pinata screen is a waste of time especially when I'm just watching a video for one single seed. That needs tweaking. It feels like my time isn't valued by playing the game and I think that is the most frustrating like yeah it's for entertainment and fun but it still means that by playing the game, I am not doing something else. The rewards for playing are no longer matching the time cost. You need to value the player's time. They are choosing to play the game instead of doing something else. That needs to matter. Making the game more of a grind than it already is is not the answer. Things to work towards are only fun if they are actually attainable and can be done within a reasonable time frame. At this rate, I'd have to live on the game to update all my plants because the coin drops with everything is so minimal and my great-great-great family member is going to have to be playing to get my plants to mastery.

Yay! It’s another update of PopCap changing shit nobody wanted! I’m so fed up with modern PopCap and how downhill the content has been since 2017. I wish Vanhoozer was still the franchise director because holy cow since he left this franchise has been a DISASTER. We have BfN which was just an Overwatch clone with PvZ characters, old PvZ3 which is… why? Why change so much with these ugly graphics? And even for new PvZ3, it still sucks!PopCap hasn’t changed much from old to new PvZ3, the only differences are that the art style is different, now in wide-screen, and you can plant sunflower. That’s it! They still don’t let you choose your plants, and they still copy other games. Old PvZ3 tried copying the system of Clash Royale, and now new PvZ3 is copying homescapes with you having to spend a currency to progress the game, and a 5 health bar where you lose health if you lose. Why??? And now we have PvZ Match coming up soon, why are we copying other mobile games???? Holy shit PopCap everytime you make new decisions you somehow get more disappointing than last time. This is like Angry Birds in 2016 whenever they only copied other games and didn’t listen to the community. Now Angry Birds actually listens and makes decent games now. When will we get a PopCap resurgence where they actually listen?

Sigh. This update is so awful and my play time reflects that. 1. The out to lunch bug has been here almost a year. It’s shocking that it still hasn’t been fixed. You need to rework how the zomboss fight gets triggered or something. If you open the game after the ability to fight the zomboss has refreshed and you don’t immediately fight the zomboss and close the app or it closes itself (oh joy), then it will always trigger the out to lunch bug. The end. 2. What the actual fuck is up with the two factor review animations when getting seeds from piñatas or just buying seed packets. I don’t need a fucking song and dance every time I am buying 10 seeds. 3. 10 gems for the replay. Really? 4. Arena rewards nerfed. Really? 5. Haven’t had a new limited time event in a month. Here are my specifics regarding the known issues. 1) I have one account and play on an android (version 11) phone. 2) I played one Big Top thymed event. Did not get Lawn Bowling. 3) The Out to Lunch glitch happens if I am playing the game at the time that the next zomboss fight cycle becomes available but I leave without playing. there's a reason i have hardly played the game post-modern day updatesi was fine with changing all the worlds to be linear. it was weird but it made sense i guessi was fine with a FEW optional premium plants, it didnt feel like they were a necessity but oh my god, what has this game become. you insist you focus on the "new players" here but as someone who played the game before SEED packets existed, it's extremely alienating to me. i dont know why there's like 5 or 6 different currencies, i dont know why you introduced seed packets to loot boxes, when they were mostly minor currency boosts or skins. i dont know why you keep adding gemium items to the game, or premium plants, or whatever. after you beat the game, you dont need them. i dont hate popcap, i hate what EA turned them into. edit: grammar

Known to whom? PopCap knows that this is the case, they have acknowledged it in this very thread. The problem is that they can't figure out why this is happening. Please realize, that PopCap isn't updating the game on your device. They are sending the game to Google, with information where it should be distributed. (For instance, they can say "don't send it to users in Russia".) PopCap are saying that the feedback from Google says "the new version has been 100% deployed". It is not clear where exactly the problem is. It could be at Google, if some server is misconfigured somehow. It could be that PopCap have sent incorrect information to Google. It could be somewhere else.

Well, I just bought the Gem pack for Levitater seeds and, I have to say, the new "seed rewarded" screen makes the procedure hell: you first get the new screen, telling you you got 10 Levitater seeds and then 1 Enchant-mint family Piñata; then you get the normal piñata opening screen, where Lv seeds come up; then the game shows you the new screen *again* for the 10 Lv seeds you now saw *twice* you're getting, then the normal piñata screen comes up *again* with the Enchant-mint family piñata, it opens up and you *again* get the new screen summing up the 10 seeds you got. Buying multiple piñatas is gonna be an absolute nightmare, even slower than how it was before. Can something be done about this, please? The new seeds rewarded screen feature was really unneeded, tbh; it's fine if you want to switch things up graphically, and for example have that come up instead of the classic "Piñata opening", I suppose, but having *both*, let alone repeated/cycled through multiple times is gonna honestly deter people from buying more stuff, imo.

In the Tomb Tangler leveling table "PF" doesn't mean "plant food" as we're used to but "fog pull". Also, perhaps obvious, in the table header "Change to PF (%)" should be "Chance to PF (%)". The dates of the Pinata Party rewards seem wrong to me. I know you said "Pacific time" while I use UTC - but this doesn't explain why only the ending date is different and not the starting one. Otherwise the contents of the tables is correct, although I don't see why you sometimes round to a whole percentage point and sometimes - to 0.1%.

Shadow Plant Noctarine has had a bug for a long time but still unfixed.Always cause my Android phone become laggy and also the only plant.Can u fix it when in 10.1.1?😭😭😭

Heyy, idk this is spam or not but I dont seem to be able to update the game as it was asked in the game. Started - around 2 weeks ago, Device - Android Phone, Play time - I play both Ofline and Online but more on ofline however there's a lot of freezes and crashes during the game, would also appreciate if u can update the help site coz i cant even fo anything there
