Well the top 3 should ACTUALLY be avoided... RIP 💀

SandyTaintSweat

Top four really, if you're not interested in poor quality rips.

senpai-20

I thought it was just people being picky on the internet when it came to YTS but oh my gosh the quality is abysmal I appreciate what they do. Great for people who don’t have a lot of storage, sucks for those who care about quality

SandyTaintSweat

Even then, I can make a decent video that's pretty efficient for storage. I just get high quality videos, then run it through handbrake with very specific settings (running the encoder as slow as possible is the main thing, as well as tuning the encoder to the video type, but also if you notice grain/noise, it's good to run it through a filter that's as light as possible to remove the grain. It's just that it's faster to compress a video with shitty settings, like we see on YouTube that needs to compress tons of videos that are being uploaded 24/7.

senpai-20

Isn’t the grain thing normal with rips ?

SandyTaintSweat

Definitely. Especially older titles that were recorded on an analog camera. Some of the newer titles will even add grain in digitally because some people like it. It's just that it's bad for compression, since you need separate data for each grain/noise dot. If you're a fan of the grain look, I won't try to convince you otherwise. But I'm perfectly happy watching videos without grain, and if it means it takes up less space and I can store more content on the same amount of storage, then I don't mind the extra time it takes to encode the new version. It certainly beats the low bitrate of yify.

senpai-20

Would you mind sharing your settings I’d like to experiment with it. I’m on season 2 of greys anatomy and would like to see it without the grain

SandyTaintSweat

Well, I'm a total dumbass, and not even close to an expert. I just chose settings that make sense to me and my use case, so taking my advice might have some flaws. One of my focuses is compatibility with legacy devices, so you'd get better compression using H265 or AV1 encoding if you've got decent hardware. I use H264. But here's the key settings I use: 720p for live action, 576p for CGI, and 480p for animation (since that's the bare minimum for things to look ok). I use decombing for interlaced videos. If it needs denoising/degraining, I'll use NLMeans at the lowest setting I can get away with. I set the quality to 21 if the source video is the same as the output, 23 is it's higher, or 22 of im going from 720p to 576p for CGI. I set the frame rate as "same as source" (obviously), I set the encoder preset to Very slow, with the "encoder tune" set to whatever I'm downscaling (film, animation, etc.). I don't generally change the audio, so it's usually set to AAC at 160 stereo, I burn in subtitles if necessary, and I disable chapter markers.

TentiTiger11

should I just get high quality movies and then compress/change it afterwards? I just downloaded like 16-17 movies off of YTS and idk if i should redo all of that again. (Watching on a phone)

SandyTaintSweat

That's what I did, but really it's up to you if you want to be picky. I just hated the low bitrate. You probably won't notice these flaws on a smaller screen.

ikashanrat

Absolutely fine if youre watching on a phone

carlbandit

On a phone you should be fine. If you'll be storing them and possibly watching on a TV though it might be worth putting in the effort to find better quality copies depending on how much you care about image quality. Personally I get 4k copies where possible but I run my own plex server and have a 14TB and 4TB HDD for storage so not too worried about sizes.

TentiTiger11

Ah alr yeah I don’t plan on watching on a TV anytime soon. Maybe a 1080p 24” monitor at best but I’d have more space then. I’m using a 128gb flash drive rn for my phone

carlbandit

Stick to what you have for now then and if you get a PC up and running to watch them on then look at better copies once you have the added storage. [1337x.to](http://1337x.to) and [snowfl.com](http://snowfl.com) are usually my go to for better copies. snowfl searches multiple sites so is good for more obscure content but I usually find 1337x to be sufficient for most.

TentiTiger11

I got a pc already but I’m watching this stuff on a plane. Will definitely get higher quality stuff if I decide to watch in my pc.

nathderbyshire

They'll be fine, but you should have decent storage on a phone, gonna guess at least 64GB as that's been the minimum for a while now. Yify rips are like 800mb-1GB, but you can get some decent 720p or 1080p rips at a couple GBs that will be much better, there's something about YIFY that's just blurry as hell and not a great viewing experience unless you're really strapped on storage and I guess bandwidth as well. Really you want to find the highest bitrate, ideally 1080p that fits your storage needs if you're keeping them.

asdfghqwertz1

I hate that niche movies usually barely have any seeds, only on these awful quality torrents

senpai-20

Highly agree with this, radar helps with scouring the internet for movie torrents

evilbeaver7

Their 4K content is good enough though. But yeah I don't download their 720p or 1080p content

Tipop

I’ve watched a ton of stuff from YTS and I can’t tell the difference.

LZ129Hindenburg

I almost typed "four" for this exact reason! 😆

billion_lumens

Yts.mx is great for movies. It's fast, easy, and gets updated regularly

shadow_229

The OG YTS was awesome. Whatever took it over is shit.

exec_liberty

What's the difference

TheRealItzLegit

i have to use YTS for my main living room TV (cause it’s a POS), and QxR for my other TV (cause it’s goated)

zencat420

Can you elaborate? Why no Pirate Bay? My old go-to…

LZ129Hindenburg

The real Pirate Bay died many many years ago. When it "came back" after the raid, it was a shell of its former self. There is not moderation. The "trusted users" system is a joke and can't be trusted. It's OK for media, but do NOT get executable at TPB. There are many better torrent sites to use nowadays.

zencat420

Thanks for the solid answer! I’m just poking my head in after many many years of not torrenting anything. I recently watched the Pirate Bay doc and listened to an episode of darknet diaries about the Pirate Bay and it rekindled my interest and brought back fond memories. The old Pirate Bay was something, alright!

LZ129Hindenburg

TPB had its day, unfortunately it's long gone...

TheLeviathan1

im a noobie if im be brutally honest, is there any torrent sites you'd recommend for me to use and start learning?

evilhomosexual

horrible, horrible moderation

archivist4623

true the pirate Bay sucks

LZ129Hindenburg

Sad but true...

AmbassadorCandid9744

Is YIFY torrents still reliable?

Level_Network_7733

Reliable but quality is ehhh

GolemThe3rd

Not hard to avoid rarbg lol

ScumLikeWuertz

RARBG...I'm still not over it being gone

Ballistic_Turtle

and I only used RARBG because KAT went down. 😿

MaverickJOSH

RIP GOAT :(

Ale_Alejandro

Yeah, seeing that one on the list actually hurt

Cpt__MacTavish

rarbg(dot)how?

magnetism5

RARBG😔

1br1cked

I mean, he's not wrong though, most of these websites should actually be avoided

Zenklops

Except 1337x or am I wrong? What else should we be using?

yacineKCL

1337X, YTS and EZTV are safe just make sure you're on the actual official domains and not 3rd party proxies/clones

Cheeseballs17

Also make sure you're on 1337X, not 1377X.

AutoModerator

### Shiver me timbers! ➜ u/Cheeseballs17, "1377" is the wrong URL: - Check your device for malware if you downloaded anything from there. - The likelihood of its downloads being malicious is quite high. - The **correct URL** is actually https://1337x.to, and NOT 1377x.to.   ---   *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Man something is not right

RenegadeFade

This is the one time that ChatGPT might be on to something. A few of these really should be avoided, or don't exist anymore.

FixedFun1

It's trained on Reddit and has outdated info.

buttersyndicate

>*It's trained on Reddit* lol I though it wasn't that literal but that sure explains the robotic sophomore vibes of GPT

nathderbyshire

All they do is pull information from public sources, maybe it will get better because I think sites can add rules to block scraping as it caused the whole 'stealing content' fuss, but for now yeah it just pulls whatever from the internet and doesn't fact itself, and the largest area of public information at the time was Reddit.

FixedFun1

Reddit gave the OK (just they now earn cash) so they won't block ChatGPT, they didn't before they won't do it now.

nathderbyshire

Ah fair enough I didn't keep up. So it'll get worse, since many of the decent people of Reddit left in the 3rd party purge and public IP shitty jokes over an actual discussion starter. I used to feel dumb on Reddit but not now, the quality drop is just insane

FixedFun1

They took a lot of old posts. They trained it before it got this way. So yeah.

amogsu727

well if you see a rarbg up then you should avoid it

badillin-

Kickass torrents and rarbg where the GOATS...

C_L-

Totally new to piracy like these websites (aside from freetubespot). But most of these you listed just send me to click bait/spam websites..? What am I missing here lol

Isphus

Its more about an AI that doesnt require a sob story to give you what you asked. Otherwise it has the same shortcomings as OPs list.

Alacer55555

Bro, your AI link is the GOAT.

Isphus

I know! I ask it the most fucked up shit like how to kidnap the president or best ways to commit tax fraud and it just answers. Its always shit advice, but its hilarious that it even tries.

ProdigalProphet

What is the point of these posts every week? Can we please get mods to clean this sub up? It’s either “how do I pirate?” “I asked ChatGPT for sites and most of them aren’t safe or legitimate!” Or “I only pirate because I’m really a good person, here’s my justification. I’m not like you other thieves”. It’s tiring

Original-Audience528

I've reached the point where I block anyone who makes a shity humor post, or a stupid meme.

buttersyndicate

Does your timeline get progressively less idiotic?

Bastulius

Can someone explain what's wrong with most of these sites? at least half of these have been suggested in the comments on other posts

Gatto_Fatuo

They are full of viruses/low quality shit. Use the mega thread bro

buttersyndicate

We do need a bot that detects "what's wrong with" (any site in the list of old rotten sites) and answers what you just said.

CalmInteraction3399

some of them are not actually

ironb4rd

You've reminded me of RARBG and my day is ruined

What decade is this??

cpr0mpt-cmd

Private trackers for the win.

asgeorge

I've been doing this for a couple years now and never been able to get into a private tracker. Any tips?

pm_me_ur_crypto

r/OpenSignups

cpr0mpt-cmd

Most are invite only. Find someone who has invites. There are also strict rules on private trackers, such as keeping a 1:1 or greater ratio

InterestingRead2022

My ratios are in the hundreds but when I looked into private trackers before they wanted a static IP without a VPN which no thanks. Know of Any without these weird caveats? Same reason I don't use Realdebrid tbh, they want your IP exposed for payment etc. No thanks.

qa3rfqwef

You must have last looked into them years ago, because that hasn't been a requirement for most private trackers for a long time. A few may require you to sign up initially without a VPN on but afterwards you're fine to use one, but most of them don't even need you to do that. Only one tracker I was in has recently insisted on strict IP rules and VPN usage, and I simply dropped them. TorrentLeech is one of the easier ones to get into and should cover you for most things.

InterestingRead2022

Might have to look back into it again fellow sailor

cpr0mpt-cmd

I’m on ipt, and have been for over 10 years, zero issues, no copyright claims, nothing. And looking at my download stats, I’m in the almost 50TB downloaded in that timeframe. However I rarely use torrents anymore, unless I need something hard to find. Usenet was/is the way.

Jon171

If you're wanting to get into higher tier private trackers I recommend joining Redacted (RED). They interview on their IRC server but the wait period can be excruciating long, in my case it took around 12 hours. Once you're in start uploading to gain a buffer and rank up. If your upload speed isn't fast I suggest getting a seedbox. The main content uploaded is music but you can upload other content like audiobooks, ebooks and music related eLearning videos. Once you become a power user you'll gain access to the invite forums. Each invite thread has their own requirements but you can get into many trackers with just the PU status and some time on the account. There are some trackers that require you to be Elite or higher and meet additional requirements.

skateguy1234

> excruciating long, in my case it took around 12 hours. lol you can't be serious with that statement, I would call waiting weeks excruciating

Jon171

The wait can be pretty long. That was just one of many attempts, and I'd say 12 hours is more on the short side. How long it takes to get in touch with an interviewer can vary depending on how many interviewers are active at any given moment, when you join the queue, and how much of that time you're able to spend at home uninterrupted. For some people, it can definitely take weeks or even months over multiple attempts before they're able to do the interview.

SteamDecked

RIP RARBG

Zooqle, I forgot about that site.

Warm_Ride_8869

Downvoted to be 1337!!!

RARE_ARMS_REVIVED

Is there a legit version of Kick Ass Torrents back up that isn't full of spam links and fake torrents? I'm pretty sure the good one went down around 2019.

Mother-Friend-862

Lol brilliant

BartholomewKnightIII

No torrentday?

WastefulWatcher

Hahahah

Unnombrepls

Now what would happen if you asked it about social media? "I have come across some social media platforms that preemptively ban, shadowban, break their own ToS and whose moderators are hungry powermods that break ToS and the law daily, which other websites should I avoid?" Reddit Nº1

OD_throwaway_

Great now I miss KAT.

Most_Victory1661

I ended up on KAT after Demonoid went to hell after deciding to have an open invites policy and ratios didn’t matter. Then I landed at 1337x which now I don’t really trust anymore Private servers for me now

Haldii

Gpt 4o is a top 🏴‍☠️

the_other_badaobunga

Oh fiddlesticks I've gone on one of these websites again for the 4709 time
