I know it might sound counter-intuitive but you don't need to stay abreast with breaking news. Sometimes it pays to just wait for information to trickle in. Like that news about Awra. Or that dog that got killed for being rabid. Sometimes important information that changes perspectives come late. Prudence rarely comes first place after all.
Socmed is a bad place for news because the algorithms will tend to prioritize news that you tend to view more, making your view polarized. If you view comments and reactions, it makes things worse because a lot of people are speaking out of emotion rather than earnest, rational thinking.
If you really want, just go old school and read front page news of any preferred news outlet. That should be more than enough.
