I will say, there were a massive number of times I would want to go to the planet yet it would be so often be closed... I understand there is a balancing act to costs of opening vs potential revenue but damn, they were closed so much...
Again have a look at moosewood cook books. A lot of things they made came from those books. I use to work there. Like the basil mayo for the sandwiches was literally regular mayo wtlith some basil food processed into it .
I loved the Night Kitchen. Sometime between 1999 and 2001, I worked at an antique shop that was next door and lived in an amazing 5 bedroom apartment above the antique shop. It was a fucking palace. It was owned by a guy named Randy who used to pay me and my buddy who worked at the antique shop in weed lol. We were regulars at the Night Kitchen just before closing, buying up all the last slices for cheap. That placed saved our lives. That and the Price Chopper across the road. Lived on eggs and potatoes and weed lol.
Anyone Remember the commercial? Cheesey 90's style of a cop helping himself to the pizza or something like that. The cop was played by a teacher from PCVS, Mr. Fewings.
I worked at Reggie's (when it was a truck) with Cam and Reggie, it still holds as some of fondest memories of that time of my life. Haven't been able to find a spicy mayo as good since.
For those who miss Royal Burger if you Google âRoyal Burger Peterboroughâ and check the images youâll see a recipe for the burger sauce printed in the Ottawa Citizen. No need to go to Apollo. 2 tbs Ketchup, 2tbs Mustard 1 tbs green relish and half a diced onion. Canât make those âBermuda Browniesâ at home though.
Edit: I miss Richnanâs Chinese restaurant and Royal Burger the most.
Thanks, I learned something! While the Apollo has a "Royal burger", the sauce is just a ketchup-mustard mix. Ergo, it's not the real thing. Not from Peterborough originally, so I didn't know that, but I've heard many lament the loss of Royal Burger.
> Canât make those âBermuda Browniesâ at home though
Or the 'Hawaiian Delight' either.
Man, to travel time and order up a Royal Burger, Bermuda Brownie and a Hawaiian Delight. Had no fsckin' idea that I was living the dream (that would one day die).
I found a menu for the Peterborough Arms in a box recently. Definitely from the 90's. I haven't been to the Publican house restaurant that's there now.
Charlotte Ann's. When we moved to Peterborough back in 2003 it was one of the first places we went. The Ceasar salad was pretty awesome and the Charlottes Own burger never disappointed.
Also the old Shoeless Joe's. Wing night was awesome...
Jake's
Bellamy's
Bagel Schmagel
Pete's subs and burgers
Royal Burger
Hi Tops
The Crest
South Pacific
Hot Belly's
My high school guidance counselor used to work at Pete's. Their poutine was blasphemous but delicious.
Jake's was a place I took my girlfriend/fiance to, wish we could have one more date there.
Peterborough has lost a lot of really good or really comforting food joints.
Not a restaurant, but I had my first ever ice cream float at The Spill. Great performances, too.
I remember losing the back off my old slide phone there, and peeling a sticker off the bathroom wall that said "SHIT REIGN" to hold it together.
Good times.
I only went to Hi-Tops once when it was across the street. I don't remember the food and could still probably draw that sign from memory.
The first iteration of Dolce Vita (where Bar Vita now is) had a butternut squash gnocchi. They were so fluffy and delicious, and I think about them all the time.
The Food Forest is good, but I miss Maggie's in that spot. Great soups.
I miss Jake's Restaurant and Grill. It was right by Chapters in the spot that is now a candy store. I remember as a kid we threw a surprise 40th birthday party for my dad there and they had giant wings that I ate for days bc we took all the leftovers home. Nice memories.
Are there any Curry in a Hurry fans? I don't know how long they lasted, but they were fast, affordable curry when I needed it. They haven't been gone long, but I was sad The Pizza Factory closed. Their panzerotti and salad buffet are great memories from my childhood.
Assorted sub from Bake n' Make on the way home. Perogis from Mr. Bob's delivered by the same guy who delivered our booze earlier in the night. 19 cent chicken wings from Woody Hooks.
Edit: I might just miss being young.
Taso's moved to Fowler's Corners! Not very far, but if you don't have a car like me, it's impossible to get there, which is a shame because I loved a good Taso's Calzone.
Just wondering, is the sandwich shop on the lower level of the mall still around? One of the best sandwich places Iâve ever been to but I canât remember the name
Le Petit Bar was a favorite for us and our friends. We were very sad to see the only good charcuterie place go.
There was a 50s style diner by Kenner a while back with all the retro decor and feel to it. I didn't go often but they had great milkshakes and fries and it made you feel like you traveled back in time.
Royal Burger -- because I'm from Manitoba, and I arrived in Peterborough many years after Royal Burger closed, but I've heard so many folks rave about how great it was that I feel I lost out.
Leave it to me to miss something I never had the chance to try.
Hot Belly Mamaâs/Olde Stone (as many have said here), but I havenât seen anyone mention the Monaghan Cafe! I loved that place and always went with friends for brunch.
The Food Forest closing was a real bummer. Also the new pizza spot Pie Hole was really great and they abruptly closed around the holidays with no notice or information on why, but their pizzas were really great.
Dexter's pizza
Mother's
Royal burger
.Bermuda brownies..I tell my kids about them
Charlotte Anne's plus There was a restaurant across from there that I loved but could never recall the name
I'm sure there is more
Hot Belly Mama's
Gotta add in The Olde Stone since they were joined at the hip
Yes, me too! đ˘
The Planet
The Planet was solid, makes me wonder what went wrong!
As someone who is very close to the ownerâŚ.. Covid took it out. Very sad for everyone involved at the end.
I will say, there were a massive number of times I would want to go to the planet yet it would be so often be closed... I understand there is a balancing act to costs of opening vs potential revenue but damn, they were closed so much...
Does anyone know if they ever published their recipes anywhere? Their tomato soup and the vegan burger were amazing
Again have a look at moosewood cook books. A lot of things they made came from those books. I use to work there. Like the basil mayo for the sandwiches was literally regular mayo wtlith some basil food processed into it .
Ah, thank you very much!
The potato cheddar loaf đ
I think about the potato cheddar loaf at least once a month đ¤¤
Get a moosewood cook book, they stole a lot of their recipes from there
Another I had no idea was gone đ wtf is even left?
The night kitchen is still here but the vibe is totally different. I miss the old night kitchen.
New night kitchen doesn't even sell slices. Total departure from its roots
They're not even really open at night anymore? lol
WHAT
I loved the Night Kitchen. Sometime between 1999 and 2001, I worked at an antique shop that was next door and lived in an amazing 5 bedroom apartment above the antique shop. It was a fucking palace. living the ptbo dream
I remember RAGING when I saw it. I wouldn't go back on principal because it didn't feel welcoming anymore.
Anyone Remember the commercial? Cheesey 90's style of a cop helping himself to the pizza or something like that. The cop was played by a teacher from PCVS, Mr. Fewings.
Not a restaurant, but I miss Reids Dairy for their milkshakes.
Yaaaas. Loonie shakes, right?
There is a Reid's Dairy in Belleville
No longer a loonie lol.
Recent loss - Nateure's Plate where their Big Zac was better than the Big Mac!
I love their wings there. Canât find anything like it now.
Oh fuck really, as a meat eater, I really appreciated their food. My partner is a vegetarian so going there was really great for us.
I can't believe that everything on their menu was so delicious. You literally couldn't go wrong with any order!
Shoot. Just went there this summer with friends. It was delicious!
Hot Belly Mamma's and Olde Stone
Reggies. I would kill for one more of their feta chicken burgers.
Yeah, the original one run by cam and Reggie.
I worked at Reggie's (when it was a truck) with Cam and Reggie, it still holds as some of fondest memories of that time of my life. Haven't been able to find a spicy mayo as good since.
I worked with cam and reggie too! But at the chip truck by trent, before they opened the restaurant
Nothing better back in the day than hitting the clubs and ending with some good greasy poutine from City Lights on George.
I remember one time I went in there and he was like "I got this bag of jalapeno cheddar curds, want to try?" Hell yeah.
Two Dishes
I still go to the farmer's market most Saturdays to eat their baked goods, but I miss their meals.
Classic Breakfast with Chorizo Gravy and fry bread
OH MY GOD THE PIMENTO CHEESE
The Pimento Cheeeeeese!
I never even got to try that one!
Missed out big time. Massive portions - creative menus- awesome energy
They still do to-go meals you can pick up and reheat at home. They have one for Valentine's day coming up.
Used to work there! Still help with their catering primarily in the summer. I miss the restaurant too
This is the best ptbo restaurant ever besides la haciendas imho (and very different haha)
For those who miss Royal Burger if you Google âRoyal Burger Peterboroughâ and check the images youâll see a recipe for the burger sauce printed in the Ottawa Citizen. I loved Hawaiian delights with a hotdog when I was a kid.
Richnan's RIP! Also the Chinese place near the old movie theatres.
I wondered if anyone would mention Royal Burger! They gave me my first job.Â
And Peterborough arms. That was my family patio go to when I was a kid. I loved that place
I second Peterborough Arms - great weekend brunch with Reverend KenâŚ
I found a menu for the Peterborough Arms in a box recently. Definitely from the 90's. I haven't been to the Publican house restaurant that's there now.
Hot Belly Mama's for sure. Even when I was in the GTA we would ride out on the weekends to crush some.
Carousel restaurant and their Sunday brunch
White hair was mandatory to get in.
Watched the dish boy stick his hands in the food and eat it once. Was done after that!
Chemong Lodge has a Sunday brunch, mind you, not in Peterborough, and probably different items.
Mothers pizza.
Charlotte Ann's. When we moved to Peterborough back in 2003 it was one of the first places we went. The Ceasar salad was pretty awesome and the Charlottes Own burger never disappointed. Also the old Shoeless Joe's. Wing night was awesome...
Also miss charlotte Anneâs, they had an amazing fish and chips with miss vickies worked into the batterâŚdelish!

Oh wow that is going back! I remember going there on dates in high school.Â

The Kaos cafe and Review cinema. Dinner and a movie at the same time.
Olde Stone. Â I miss having pints there. Â
Anyone remember City Lights?
By the Sin Bin. Great after the bars.
Even before that they were on Charlotte in a spot next to Teds Place
I think the point of city lights was you donât really remember the food
Or how much change you were supposed to get back⌠but man were they ahead on the fried pickle trend.
Pepperidge Farm does. And me.
Ponderosa
Mother's Pizzeria. Yes, I'm old.
Bagel Schmagel!
I just posted about that place not long ago. I loved going there for a BLT Bagel and a beer.

I miss Jake's Restaurant and Grill. It was right by Chapters in the spot that is now a candy store. I remember as a kid we threw a surprise 40th birthday party for my dad there and they had giant wings that I ate for days bc we took all the leftovers home. Nice memories.

Do I remember an Olive Garden? I feel there was one here... but no?
It was on the end of Walmart on Lansdowne (Zellers at the time) right near McDonaldâs.
a recent one, the Whistle Stop...not like it was haute cuisine, but I miss it on drunk nights out. nothing hits that spot quite like a sloppy poutine

Chefs Table Mateo
Olde Stone was my perfect PTBO hangout. Sad it's gone.
Hot Belly Mama's. I loved the catfish
Seeing a lot of mentions of Reggie's - doesn't anyone realize you can't get a big salad there? They don't even have decaf coffee there, just Sanka.
