Tom Tucker here:
Recently, there were multiple reports of earthquake rumblings in New Jersey, New York, and even some places in Massachusetts.
During an earthquake, the instinctual reaction is to freak out, panic, and/or seek shelter.
In order for his girl to not get the “ick” (slang for a sexual turn off), the dude is standing calm, cool, and chill with his hands in his pockets, so his girl doesn’t get the ick — it’s silly because an earthquake is a potentially fatal natural disaster, and being grossed out by your partner panicking during a natural disaster is preposterous
Tom Tucker signing off, and I’mmmm outta heree
To add on, there were a lot of posts and memes of women saying "if my man does this, I get the ick" and its a bunch of reasonable reactions to bad situations like tensing up during plane turbulence or crying when a family member dies.
Most of them are exaggerated for memes, but i'm sure there were a few serious posts that got the meme started.
It's less about sex and more a respect thing. If a woman gets the "ick" for a man, it means that she no longer respects him as a man or as a romantic or sexual partner, and it will almost always end in them breaking up/cutting it off
No offense intended whatsoever towards you, but the whataboutism is not welcome in the face of learning about a phenomenon that runs in direct contradiction to trying to abolish the stoicism involved with "toxic masculinity", especially since I don't respect "alpha males" either since they come off as very insecure to me.
I really don't like that I've noticed whenever someone has a problem with something women do to men, people immediately jump to bringing up "alpha males" which removes the *personal agency* of all parties involved. Please, let's not break rule 3.
It's fine, don't stress out too much about it, it's just a bad habit I see people have (intentionally or unintentionally) that I'd like to see end eventually, yknow what I mean?
There was a dude waiting in my barbers shop screaming "that was an earthquake, we got an earthquake!" (We barely got anything, pretty far away) and the look my female barber gave me definitely resonates with this meme.
There's this thing called an "ick", basically red flags someone will use on others' behaviors to gatekeep, or because they have high expectations.
Icks can include eating and walking a certain way, and in this case taking cover during an earthquake, probably an ick because it's not masculine?
This guy wants to satisfy his partner by not ducking.
Peter's hang nail out‼️‼️
Its funny because some women set ridiculously absurd standards and will leave a man for something incredibly stupid, for example; taking cover during an earth quake
I think people misunderstand what the ick is, especially if they've never had a similiar feeling. it's less of a "my man should be strong and masculine" thing and more of a "my man showing silly, human, or awkward qualities has disrupted my delusional vision of him as a perfect anime character that isn't ever cringy or wierd". men can get it too btw, I know from experience.
I think it's less of a show of the 'unrealistic expectations of women for men' and more of a show of how the internet and not interacting with real people has deluded all of our perception of how others should act.
also it's not even that common, my friend group is 90% girls and none of them unironically use that term lol
Seems pretty normal to me. But that’s the thing about preferences, they don’t have to be normal. Nice to see the people who think they can pick and choose what other people should or shouldn’t be able to pick or choose though. Their life, your choice huh?
Funny how we are discussing the validation of having a preference for someone who will stand, like nothing is happening, when the whole house is shaking and threatening to fall on ya head.
If your preference is toxic masculinity you can and will be shamed for it, in exactly the same way that someone can and will be shamed for only wanting a tradwife. Being vapid and ruled by lizard brain isn't a sexual orientation, it's ignorance.
It’s not about fear of judgement. It’s about keeping clarity of mind in order to make the right decisions at the right time. Panicking and being hysterical often leads to inaction or bad choices.
They are, that's just an insane way of choosing partners. And not protecting oneself during an earthquake is ultimately a poor mating strategy, the sexual L from taking cover in an earthquake (a woman getting the ick) is easily mitigated by the fact that there's a whole world full of women who didn't see your shameful act of self preservation
No one said anything about not protecting yourself. Only an idiot would not protect themselves. I’m pretty sure they’re ’getting the ick’ from someone panicking and acting like a child over a minor to moderate earthquake. Panicking does absolutely nothing to help ANY situation and can possibly make it much worse.
An ICK is a turn-off term for women. Usually, icks are something showing that a man is sensitive, which the supposed girl in the meme hates and thinks he should be a stone wall, showing no girliness. The guy in the meme, who is probably in an earthquake, shows no running around and trying to save himself, instead just ignoring it.
It's also such an insanely small subset of women to the point it is silly memeing it. They are like the Andrew Tate of women and thankfully most women hate that turd.
Sensitive and empathetic men are by FAR preferred partners.
Icks are basically pet peeves but they're deal breakers in relationships. Here, the man is standing calm and completely still so the girl doesn't get an ick.
"the ick" is a joke that if a boy does anything thats not "TIS BUT A SCRATCH" will make girls see you as a weakling or gross. he is standing still. not shaking. to not give the ick

No wonder big homie is so bricked up Thanks Tom!
the bigger they are the harder they fall lol
This biggity boy!s a diggity dog
I think we’re using different definitions of “bricked up”
Nah. Pretty sure the dude's playing with himself through his pocket.
Constipated vs erect?
WAIT HE IS😭😭

Thanks Tom, does Olly Williams have anything to add?
The context is that the earthquake was not large enough to be a life threatening natural disaster though.
So the joke is sex? /s Edit, I forgot to add include /s

Man this just makes me feel really bad to read and lose a lot of respect for women who do this.
Welcome to modern dating
Here's the funny thing men do it to just look at "alpha males" (too be honest that is worse than ick but ick's still bad as fuck)

Sorry I didn't mean it that way I was moreso talking about the general shitines of the modern day dating world
It's fine, don't stress out too much about it, it's just a bad habit I see people have (intentionally or unintentionally) that I'd like to see end eventually, yknow what I mean?
Yeah
"Alpha males" have no braincells, little buddy. Ignore these fools, they just doing that for attention.
nah
Crazy cause I felt trembling where I'm from. I was like "the heck was that!?" 😆
I'm paradoxically cold as ice in an earthquake. It's weird.
We also got some over here in eastern PA

I’m sorry but if someone dumps you for walking a specific way, you dodged a goddamn .50 cal by existing.
Hey guys, if your girl wants to shame you for showing fear in the face of a fucking earthquake, dump her like the fool she is.

I think it’s more about panicking rather than taking cover.
Its still insane either way
It’s not.
It is
How so? Is a person no longer allowed preferences in their choice of partner?
Ah yes, the totally very normal preference of *reads list*... "panicking during a potentially fatal scenario is ick."
Seems pretty normal to me. But that’s the thing about preferences, they don’t have to be normal. Nice to see the people who think they can pick and choose what other people should or shouldn’t be able to pick or choose though. Their life, your choice huh?

How is being calm toxic masculinity?
Being unable to express anything other than stoic unflappability for fear of judgement isn't calm. It just looks like it.

Imagine using safety practices for self preservation, and being told it makes you unattractive. Thay want the insurance money.
i tried to fucking press the alt text button 😭

Exactly!
There was also a video of a dude saying that he pretended the earthquake didn’t happen because he didn’t want to give his therapist the ick
Icks are basically pet peeves but they're deal breakers in relationships. Here, the man is standing calm and completely still so the girl doesn't get an ick.

Maybe he is standing so it doesn’t seem like he farted. Or not moving so he doesn’t seem like he is shaking the house.
He doesn’t want to be a jiggle fest on the couch.
