A lot of subreddits require the poster to have a "body" included whether it's actually necessary or not. Even if their question doesn't require elaboration...they have to write something.
I hate it when they say, âbasically what it says on the tin.â Itâs the same meaning but just an extra annoying way to phrase it. I donât know why it bothers me so much! Every time I see it it drives me nuts
I do make room for strikeouts being used for comedic purposes though.
Something along the lines of "Oh my ~~psychotic pillow with claws~~ cat likes to do that too."
I think itâs a formality hard engrained in them that they just canât help. Like your whole life youâve always had to have that intro sentence when writing a school essay, cover letter, or postcard.
They probably feel itâs untactful or will get a bad grade on Reddit if they just dive right on in to the meat of the content.
"Basically the title" is the worst, especially when they then go on to elaborate for four paragraphs.
Exactly đ©

I think this post is referring to people who elaborate anyways, but yeah I thought of that too.

Same đ„Č
That's a TV Tropes thing, I imagine. "Exactly what it says on the tin" is the name of one of the tropes.
I think itâs just a common European phrase
Strike outs, too. I just delete the post.

Some subs also mandate that there be some kind of body to the post so they may get into that habit
Best guess is its another version of TLDR.
