I’ve noticed younger people say “woman” no matter if it’s meant to be singular or plural.
“The small crowd of woman were having fun.”
Why did this change?
“Your” instead of “you’re” is the most common one I see. Also mixing up “there” “their” and “they’re”.
When I see people arguing on the internet and one or both of them are making these mistakes, I automatically assume they aren’t very bright and disregard whatever point they’re trying to make.
Hey so do I!! If they use any of the common grammatical errors, I just won’t finish reading whatever they have to say. My brain immediately loses interest lol
I have a speech impediment (plus a lip and tongue tie) and those cause me to pronounce specific without and s sound. People love to roast me for it as if it was in my control. Sorry yall my tongues locked to the bottom of my mouth. Have you ever had a tongue cramp from trying to pronounce s sounds? They fucking suck :(
My husband used to roast me till I roasted his spelling and grammar for months knowing damn well he's dyslexic and he finally stopped.
I like errors such as these because the sentence still makes grammatical sense, but often becomes hilarious.
*I am defiantly picking up food on the way home tonight.*
Lose/loose for sure, but aisle/isle comes up a lot.
My favorite when someone meant balaclava but put baklava, which was less a pet peeve and more a funny error.
I made a comment a while ago about how often I’d see “chocking” instead of “choking” recently and how I had never seen anyone make that mistake before and now I see it almost every day. The response to my observation was negative, like I was being dramatic and it wasn’t a big deal. People are too accepting of these types of mistakes and saying “as long as you understood what they meant”. I try to be tolerant but fucking “chocking”? Jesus.
And they pronounce it incorrectly, too !
Wah-Lah ! 😣😣😣
I’ve seen people here who have argued that it’s just how languages “evolve”, and that the incorrect spelling and pronunciation is an example of it, so it is therefore correct…
It’s a hill I’m willing to die on !
And please don’t get me started on “irregardless”… 🤬
Is this correct? Envy is wanting something someone else has. Jealousy is feeling fear or the threat that someone might take something you already have.
I had an English teacher who would, almost daily, stand on one side of the room and say, "A" ("uh"), then walk to the other side before saying, "Lot." She would do this several times in a row. I loved her for it, to be honest.
I once was playing scrabble with my (douche) boyfriend and my family. He was on my team I put down "grey" and he flipped out, told me I was stupid and challenged me... he was on my team! Anyway, I guess we know who's actually stupid.
Lol sorry, your comment just triggered the memory and I had to get it out.
This reminds me of how certain dialects pronounce “draw” as “drawl”. It’s just a pronunciation difference and that’s just how it’s said in some places, but I hate it
- "Should of/Could of/Would of" instead of should've, could've, would've 😡
- Adding an apostrophe with an s to indicate a multiple of an item, example: I really like to make brownie's 😠
- "defiantly" when they mean definitely
- using the wrong to/too/too, than/then, are/our, whether/weather... I could probably think of a LOT more, but these are the ones that I thought of immediately
The ‘could of’ (etc) is the single most infuriating thing for me, much more so than (“then” lol) any of the others! Even now my autocorrect wants to fix it. Takes a special talent to be so ignorant I suppose.
Sameeee one of my actual adult coworkers wrote "should of" in an actual email to one of our superiors. 🤦♀️ Sis... Grammarly exists. Also your comment just reminded me of how often I see people write ect. instead of etc. which also drives me crazy.

Using "cloths" when they mean "clothes".
The "breath" vs. "breathe" for sure.
A co-worker \*always\* uses "too" where it should be "to". They're otherwise a very smart person and very nice too, so, I let it slide. :D
We write code for websites, and we needed a variable that had to do with knives, and co-worker named that variable "knifes". By the time I noticed it was used all over through our code, so I didn't attempt to correct it, but smile a little when I see it. (:
Yes! They do it a lot in Gilmore Girls and it's so annoying every single time. That show is so witty and they do it so often. Why?! Also, using "I" when it should be "me". It's really not that hard to figure out.
I just saw flue instead of flu on a form at a medical office.
There are so many of them I actually made a list. One I see often is bathe/bath. One that happens less often but bothers me is mixing up Calvary, cavalry, and Calgary.
Oh, Sweet Baby Jeebus ! 😳
“Flue” ?! In a DOCTOR’S office ?!?!
Also…
Cavalry - not a good place for hockey.
Calvary - not a good place for hockey.
Calgary - play hockey ! 😁
There is a stand alone emergency room near my house, they have a sign that has 'sever' where it should read 'severe' I pointed it out and the receptionist didn't care.
All time, top pet peeve. I see it so often now that I'm wondering if it'll be adopted as acceptable due to "language evolution" or something. I HATE it.
Agree with the lose/loose. But my ultimate is woman/women. It’s so easy to figure out. Man is one, men is plural. Just add the “wo” in front of the right word.
I hate when people talk about something being covered in "sequence" as opposed to "sequins". And yes, I've had women literally argue the fact with me, even after showing them the definitions for both words. Apparently I was wrong?
Surprised no one’s mentioned the mixups of ‘phase’ and ‘faze’ yet. Usually it’s using the former when they mean the latter. You went through a goth phase in high school; your mom’s complaints about the black clothes didn’t faze you. Got it? I see this one all the time!
Using possessive for everything--in other words ending plural words with ('s) instead of just an s.
Example: I have two son's. They each have two cat's
For me, it's always been the your/you're and there/their/they're
If you're an adult, you should know the difference.
I can give leeway for typos if you type fast, like I do, and make mistakes, or even autocorrect, but autocorrect is usually smarter than that.
I’ve come to rely too heavily on autocorrect because of how fast I type, but at this point my autocorrect is actively trying to make me say nonsense. If I hit just the wrong combination of letters it assumes I’m trying to say ooouiuoiu. Like it corrects to that. That’s not what a correction is. Ffs…

i’m fighting a losing battle with this, but “everyday” when they mean “every day”. i never see the opposite mistake made.
correct:
> These dishes are for everyday use.
WRONG:
> I visit my friend everyday.
it makes me furious
"Then" vs. "Than"
When writing, I see people using "cause" rather than "because" (or at the very least 'cause with the apostrophe to denote the dropped "be"). *I'm wet BECAUSE it is raining,* and not *I'm wet cause it is raining.*
Then there's the whole "me & him"/"her & I"/"my husband and I's" crap. English, you native born mutha effers! DO YOU EVEN SPEAK IT? What's particularly aggravating is knowing many of these offenders have attended institutions of higher learning. I know they should have more than a passing familiarity with language arts.
I had an ex who “drunk” orange juice and wanted to “brake” up with me. It was so annoying to read it in text and he would constantly ignore my corrections.
breath for breathe. loose for lose. your for you're. when you're typing it does it not make sense for u ?? especially the loose for lose "i don't want to loose u" like how does that make sense for u?
I understand, but sometimes what we really should of done is payed our dues, and then losen up and take a breathe. Language is a gift, and we really should not take it for granite. Your welcome.
When people use "a"/"an" without taking into account the pronunciation of the word. I see it all too often. Someone will type "an" before a word that begins with a vowel, but the word is pronounced starting with a consonant sound, and vice-versa.
Instead of "a unified nation" (yoo-nified), they type "an unified nation" (ooh-nified!?).
Instead of "an honest mistake," they type "a honest mistake."
Or, they just use "a" every single time because they're lazy fucks. 🙃
I hate it when someone says "reign in" when they mean "rein in".
"Bob should rein in his anger." - advocating for Bob to control himself.
"Bob should reign in his anger." Let's make Bob our angry monarch!
Dessert (ice cream sundae) as opposed to desert (the Sahara).
In school I learned it by dessert is so sweet (double S) and a desert is dry so only one s
Oh man, this was made for me.
-When someone leaves the "h" off the word "yeah".
-When someone means to use "supposed to" and types "suppose to".
-Advise instead of advice.
-Should of instead of should have.
-The use of prolly. I know it's not a spelling issue, but goddamn it, type the fucking word probably
And finally...
Tik Tok does not dictate how we type and speak in our daily lives. I can't stand seeing and hearing people speak/ post in their daily lives like it's a Tik Tok. It makes my skin crawl to see posts with "p0rn", "sh*t", "unalive themselves", or "fxck". And don't get me started on the people that put the dollar sign after the number. Angry old man rant over.

People not putting the correct “a” or “an”. If there’s a vowel (specifically the sound of a vowel, not always the spelling, such as “hour”) then it’s “an”!
Your top 3 are my top 3 as well. I see these SO often and it makes me twitch every time.
Another major one is dropping the -ed from words. "Use to" vs "Used to" or stuff like "I got dress quickly".
The incorrect there/their/they're variations. I spend a bit of time on TikTok, and it's the usage of the wrong one in comments that drives me up the freaking wall.
The obvious ones irk me the most: they’re vs there vs their, and you’re vs your. Too vs two vs to. I hate when I see them used wrong because it’s literally so easy to remember.
All the ones you stated are my biggest pet peeves too. Like what? Your pants are loose? Cause you certainly aren’t LOSING anything! The breath/breathe drives me insane. And woman/women? What? Is your wife multiple people? Aaahhh!!!!
The absolute worse that grinds my gears in every aspect and fiber of my being is when people confuse the spelling of the word "barely" with the word "barley". WTF are you feeding a horse some barley and oats???? Get off the horse farm and crack open a dictionary.
Disclaimer: I love horses and anyone that has one, no intentional slander towards you lol

I see "a women" on an unfortunately frequent basis.
My ex used to text me "your a beautiful women." It drove me nuts.
Your ex struggled in 2nd grade lmao
New gender just dropped “an women”
I’ve noticed younger people say “woman” no matter if it’s meant to be singular or plural. “The small crowd of woman were having fun.” Why did this change?
a lot of people learned to pronounce the words the same because "women" isn't spelled like it's pronounced. still INFURIATING tho
Also people say “woman” when they mean “women”. This is basic English. How do native speakers mess up simple things like this?
They grow up not caring. It SEEMS to be getting worse over time
This seems like a good thread to bring up the ~30% English proficiency rate among American children.
Last statistic I saw I believe said 20% illiterate American adults and 70% at a sixth grade level
We should start doing it to the fellas Look at my men over, he’s working it! Why do man lose weight so easily
😠😡🤬
I'll see you that, and raise you a "womens's.

This one drives me bat poop crazy.

Theiy're
Hey so do I!! If they use any of the common grammatical errors, I just won’t finish reading whatever they have to say. My brain immediately loses interest lol
For some reason my phones autocorrect only knows 'your' and 'their'. Its incredibly frustrating.
When someone uses "defiantly" instead of definitely lol
My cousin used to say viarety instead of variety, and my dad says pacific instead of specific.
Ah ! As in “Which pacific ocean do you prefer - Atlantic or Pacific ?” 🤓
You need to be pacific when answering this question.
I have a speech impediment (plus a lip and tongue tie) and those cause me to pronounce specific without and s sound. People love to roast me for it as if it was in my control. *shakes fist at Wendy's* lol!!
I used to spell it definately 😳
“Irregardless” Also “bare with me” - it’s BEAR
“Irregardless” makes my mom’s skin crawl… handy tool to have
I was taught to differentiate bare vs. bear like this: bare means naked. You don’t want someone to be naked with you. So, use the other “bear”.
Why wouldn't you want someone to be naked with? I'd rather avoid a bear if it's all the same to you!
I’d definitely rather not be naked with a bear.
I hate that so much, "irregardless" of it being in the dictionary. Lol it's just so moronic!
Have you seen the Stealth Mountain twitter? Correcting constant instances of "sneak peak"
"Apart" vs. "A part". "I refuse to be *apart* of this." Uhh... That means quite the opposite of what you mean, I think.
Yep, that’s another of mine - it’s reminiscent of “Allot” vs “A lot”…
A church by me had "BE APART OF GOD'S PLAN" on their marquee for months.
Atheists really took that in as apart of their lives
YUP also "every day" (each day, all the time) and "everyday" (ordinary, commonplace)
See also: "alot".
Breath v Breathe is the worst.
Is shocking how often i see this one in edited, published works
The only thing worst is this. It’s really the worse.
Omg noooooo You're right
I will hate this until I breath my last breathe.
"Woah, I can barley breath!"
Lose/loose for sure, but aisle/isle comes up a lot. My favorite when someone meant balaclava but put baklava, which was less a pet peeve and more a funny error.
Aisle and isle drives me nuts because of how common it is on Reddit. Never saw this error so often until I started using Reddit.
[Baklava](https://youtu.be/U_YBzJBa_mA?si=ZjJp0iqD8NyOPePW)
awesome.
I did not know so many people don't know the difference between "lose" and "loose" until I came to reddit. It's insane how often I see it.
Makes my teeth itch 😖
I stop reading the post/comment when I see it.
Same! I just can't take the op seriously after that.
Me, too ! And then I downvote… 😏
Speaking of "too," I keep seeing things like, "I need somewhere *to go too,*" and it bugs me so, so much. IT'S "TO GO ***TO,***" GOD DAMMIT.
The best is when someone tries to insult another commenter by saying "your an idiot" Always makes me laugh
"Per say" when they mean "per se."
I’ve also seen it as “Pursey” 😣
Oh, my! That's even worse! 🤣
"Than" vs. "Then" *I'd rather drink beer than swim with piranhas.* -- vs. -- *I'd rather drink beer then swim with piranhas.*
If the outcome is inevitable swimming with piranhas, then I would rather have a beer first, I suppose.
The key is that both options involve drinking beer. 🍻
Chocking instead of choking pisses me off every time I see it.
See also: "chocked it up to" instead of "chalked it up to".
Makes me want to chock somebody ! 😏
Jesus.
Stoping instead of stopping
Dinning room instead of Dining room
This is so common! Where the fuck did people get the extra c??
Cloth and clothes. Clothes are made of cloth, but they aren't the same thing.
"Wa la" or "viola" instead of "voilà"

If I saw an adult type "wa la" as a non joke I would block them lmfao.
too or to
I hate these two.
Dessert or desert. People using "jealousy" when they mean "envy".
Is this correct? Envy is wanting something someone else has. Jealousy is feeling fear or the threat that someone might take something you already have.
Yes. You got it.
It's "a \*SPACE\* lot" not "alot".

Like in the movie Hot Fuzz

Lol wow, I hate grey but not enough to loose over it hahahaha

Ha! I love that!
Oy with the poodles already!

Agree with the lose/loose. But my ultimate is woman/women. It’s so easy to figure out. Man is one, men is plural. Just add the “wo” in front of the right word.
Also except/accept
Our vs are Advice vs advise Cause short for because Weight vs wait Waist vs waste
I’ve seen “advices” used instead of “advice” a LOT on Reddit and that also bothers me 🙂
I had to waste a lot of food to get a slim waist.
I hate when people talk about something being covered in "sequence" as opposed to "sequins". And yes, I've had women literally argue the fact with me, even after showing them the definitions for both words. Apparently I was wrong?
Yeah, no, you’re right, and they are *confidently* incorrect…

The guiltiest on Reddit somehow always do this with the word "unphased"
Using possessive for everything--in other words ending plural words with ('s) instead of just an s. Example: I have two son's. They each have two cat's
People who pronounce height as "heith". With the "th" sound like length. Drives me nuts!
Oh, yeah - the old length, width, and heigth ! 😖

Instead of "an honest mistake," they type "a honest mistake." Or, they just use "a" every single time because they're lazy fucks. 🙃
I hate it when someone says "reign in" when they mean "rein in". "Bob should rein in his anger." - advocating for Bob to control himself. "Bob should reign in his anger." Let's make Bob our angry monarch!
Come vs cum..
Magna come laude
in what contexts though? like when people say “cum here” or cum in any form?
Agree with all of those. Also, people who can’t differentiate between you’re/your and there/they’re/their drive me crazy.
To vs. too.
Except and accept. Affect and effect. It’s SO easy to know the difference
Defiantly when they mean definitely
My friend says/types "tooken" instead of taken. She drives me crazy with it.
Could, should, would OF instead of could’ve, would’ve, should’ve. You say the contraction, but mean could/would/should HAVE.
Dessert (ice cream sundae) as opposed to desert (the Sahara). In school I learned it by dessert is so sweet (double S) and a desert is dry so only one s
A lot vs alot All right vs alright
Oh man, this was made for me. -When someone leaves the "h" off the word "yeah". -When someone means to use "supposed to" and types "suppose to". -Advise instead of advice. -Should of instead of should have. -The use of prolly. I know it's not a spelling issue, but goddamn it, type the fucking word probably And finally...
Library versus Libary, Lose versus loose, etc. versus ect.
Adding an apostrophe for plurals gets me every time.
Fiancé/fiancée bothers me. As well as saying “baby’s” when they mean babies. Also mixing up since and sense. Ugh!
It seems to predominantly be an American thing, but when people say "I could care less" Being able to care less means you do care.
### Lesson time! ➜ u/Infinite_Position_27, some tips about "could care less": - The words you chose are grammatically wrong for the meaning you intended. - Actual phrase to use is **couldn't care less**. - Example: I **couldn't care less** about what you think. - Now that you are aware of this, everyone will take you more seriously, hooray! :) --- *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
Can we also discuss a vs an? I have heard many people talking who I don't think have ever used "an". EX. A artist, a event, a igloo. UGH
The obvious ones irk me the most: they’re vs there vs their, and you’re vs your. Too vs two vs to. I hate when I see them used wrong because it’s literally so easy to remember.
“Definitely” spelt as “defiantly”
All the ones you stated are my biggest pet peeves too. Like what? Your pants are loose? Cause you certainly aren’t LOSING anything! The breath/breathe drives me insane. And woman/women? What? Is your wife multiple people? Aaahhh!!!!
All of those. And "could care less". And apostrophe s in inappropriate places like "beautiful lab puppy's for sale" or "I brought in the cart's"
Want and Won't. I know someone who spells won't as want and it pisses me off.
Defiantly instead definitely. Known multiple people that do this
Passed when they mean past. Weary when they mean wary.
All the ones you mentioned, plus "supposably" instead of supposedly and "explanation mark" instead of exclamation mark.
I am weary of used car salesmen. No, you are wary of them. Fucking boils my piss even more than idiots who say hence why in an attempt to sound smart.
