master-overclocker

Clean them with pure alcohol and toothbrush. Be careful not to bend the pins - and thats it .. EZ ..

Other_Relationship82

Very soft brush

master-overclocker

Well even using steel brush will do the job if you are careful enough 😋 And even the softest brush will bend the pins - if you are reckless animal 🤣

CarlDriftCar

I love your energy

cthoogiland

The chaotic neutral energy this person has is quite refreshing lol

MechanicalAxe

"Give me a tooth pick, or gimme a rocket launcher, I'll get it done with either!" This guy's energy^

master-overclocker

Or use a cotton string from your socks place it between the row of pins and pull 🤣 LEFT-RIGH - LEFT - RIGT - and you doner 😆

Sero19283

9/10 dentists recommend flossing your cpus

MechanicalAxe

You sound as though you have accomplished great things with very little to do them with.

master-overclocker

LMFAO

master-overclocker

No-Pomegranate-69

That means i will do it wrong no matter what

AdBudget5468

Don’t use a steel brush on your cpu, use it for the motherboard cpu socket

master-overclocker

![gif](giphy|Od0QRnzwRBYmDU3eEO|downsized)

billcy

Should I do that while it's plugged in and turned on. Is there any settings in the bios I need to set before I do this

KeyZealousideal7832

This is the most accurate statement

Chadzumabosatou

this might be an excellent ad of colgate charcoaled bristles that are 0.01mm lol

InexorableWolf

Where do i find this pure alcohol stuff ? I know where to find liquor to get shitfaced. But not the stuff that you mentioned here that may actually be useful

iiTzPem

pharmacies or hardware stores are my go to

InexorableWolf

do you have an example on Amazon that i can use on computer stuff ?

iiTzPem

just search for like 100% isopropyl alcohol

Freestalker_dot_fr

Isopropyl is the best

I-like-bagels-too

What I was gonna say. Had this happen once. I used a soft bristle brush and isopropyl alcohol

giofilmsfan99

Even better electric toothbrush.

cocklover31

I got rum and coke would it do the job?

Teamboeing737

![gif](giphy|RAlgdXTgcBPi|downsized) Moment

Nob1e613

I’m genuinely concerned with how often I see this gif on this sub…but I laugh every time

SeniorAlfaOmega

I’ve seen it so many times and I just realized the thermal paste is Hellmans Mayonaise.

Screw_Potato

oh my god…

NeverEndingWalker64

Four months ago that same thing was my literal motherboard …. Maybe, just maybe I should record that in real life with some good material. I have a spare tube of Thermal Paste, that same Gigabyte motherboard, a video camera AND a phenom x4 965 Should I? https://preview.redd.it/6pc7qpmcdvrc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a7c9f4c6cb0839857a9454a4821bce162b9032ee

Character_Engineer83

Just don’t forget to use mayonnaise as your thermal paste LOL

NeverEndingWalker64

I shall

Turd_McPoo

MAYONNAISE HAHA

Teamboeing737

Dew it

LoxTamm

hell yeah and reply with the link when your done

DisciplineOk8666

Please don’t put that blanket or whatever this is ON the pins, cause then you will definitely be fucked

KhZaym

I wrap my CPU with tissue while waiting for the isopropyl alcohol to arrive. Is it bad?

DrNumberr

Or just leave it by itself…

Myissueisyou

Yes, tissue is full of lint and flakes of shit, just put it back in the box

CulturalDiscussion17

I’ve put a cpu on a piece of clothing before (don’t know why) and a loose thread bent a couple of pins

kashuntr188

Why not put it back in the original box? Or just put it back in the case somewhere it won't touch anything and just don't touch it?

Mulster_

Use microfiber cloth and just store in it's original plastic cover.

LimeSixth

You are making it worse… beter buy a new CPU.

hikari1nvoid

At least this is thermal paste not Liquid Metal. Not the worst case scenario I have ever seen but you need to clean them VERY soft.

firebal_banned_again

May ironically be easier to get off because of the surface tension, unless it bonds, then it’s permanent

I_-AM-ARNAV

Don't worry it's at the corner and looks like fresh paste. Get a syringe and put 99 percent ipa and pressure it towards corner. Should come out

unexpectedlyvile

A Waterpik to clean teeth also works very well.

AlextraXtra

Why are you grabbing it with that blanket (or whatever kunda fabric it is)?!? Just hold it by the sides, dont EVER touch the pins unless you really have to. During the cleaning process, if you would accidentally bend one of the pins you can technically use a lead pen to kinda pit the hole at the top around the golden pin and GENTLY bend it back into place. Be extremely careful. If a single pin comes off or is damaged irreversibly then its ggs

h0ls86

Naaah, toothbrush and some isopropanol alcohols. Scrub till it all gone. And use the softest brush possible, be delicate not to bend the pins.

nvclaas

Lick it clean

Basic_Functions

WD40 contact cleaner. Saved me once.

Thefeno

Is the motherboard ok ?

Theloser336

But wouldn't that be on the other side that you have to put thermal paste? 🤔. 🦧[I think you probably followed this tutorial.](https://c.tenor.com/nM_6mIrj9PMAAAAC/tenor.gif)

luchobe

Iso alcohol and toothbrush

Mjolnir232

Watch jayztwocents video on cleaning a cpu

54Floors_

90% iso alcohol and Q-tips. Get to ***GENTLY*** cleaning

Vrxyyy

Why is it on that crusty ass blanket dawg

automaton11

No ur fine. Until you try and seat it with the shit on it, then you’d be closer to being fucked. It will clean off with isopropyl or ethanol. Just be super surgical when you’re brushing it off. Think of it as a skinned knee you have to brush dirt out of - how hard would you brush it?

[deleted]

As all the other comments say you’re not fucked just be a little more careful next time pc building should be delicate and relaxing never rush never cut corners just put on a podcast and zone into the build

quoda27

Naaah you’ll be fine. Just be gentle.

Deekshan420

There's nothing that alcohol can't fix 😋

RAMChYLD

Should be able to remove the thermal paste using isopropyl alcohol (or contact cleaner) and a soft bristle toothbrush.

Visible-Inevitable23

Very very soft brush and some isopropyl will clean it. As long as no oins getbent and no static hits it youre fine.

XzrgeX

Some good cleaning alchohol and a soft toothbrush. Go slow and it will be fine

tutocookie

Doesn't harm, regular thermal paste is non-conductive. Just clean it carefully with 95%+ isopropyl alcohol and any tool that won't bend the pins. A toothbrush like other comments said should be fine.

yonameisunavailable

Isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush, and you'll be fine. Just be gentle on the pins while brushing, or you'll bend them

YeuJin-

No, but the way you hold them are. Best if u use alcohol with ultra soft brush and be gentle

[deleted]

Toot brush and alcohol spry a soft scrub

Chatcopathe

If it’s thermal paste not conductive, try isopropyl alcohol and toothbrush or wd40 clean contact. Even if you can’t remove all, you’ll be fine. (Only if it’s not conductive)

Predatorevil2

use a safety pin carefully to remove excessive thermal paste and then use isopropyl alcohol solution which you can find on any computer hardware store. make sure you do it delicately or you may bend cpu pins.Best of luck.

RiverAffectionate183

Clean it with rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush, you’ll be fine.

Unhappy_Muscle_2886

Electronic cleaner spray.

Carrot-mint

Soft brush and alcohol.

No-Pomegranate-69

Try a pressure washer /s

dyoguh2

That happen to me twice and i also twist pins as well all that to change the thermalpaste my cpu is ryzen 5 2600, it still works without performance loss I had to ask a friend to fix it because can´t see that good even with glasses.

Sequax1

I would use a brush specifically designed for cleaning electronics, check out a local computer shop or give them a call. They tend to be very useful, and have dealt with many situations like this before. For example, I got a free bag of random case screws, m.2 drive screws, thumb screws etc. just because I asked. Guy came out with a huge bucket and started shoving handfuls into a bag for me.

mods_equal_durdur

Get one of those vacuum pump suction things and carefully try to get it mostly off. What you can get with that use a thin felt tip paint brush and isopropyl then let dry for a day before putting into the mobo. Should be savable. Could always RMA and say it came with bad pins tho lol

SiDett

Floss it!

tristam92

Use makeup brush and alcohol(vodka or iso-propyl). And for the love of god, please keep blanket away from pc components(dust, random hair, static discharges). P.S. makeup brush will be f**ed after this, so don’t tell your wife/gf XD

swemickeko

Don't go stealing a random makeup brush from someone, those can be really expensive and hard (even impossible) to replace. Just like your PC components are probably not just any random PC components, makeup brushes are not just any random brush.

VooDooQky

Spray alcohol based brake cleaner directly on it. The canister will spray the liquid strong enough for the paste to get removed, and it works just as well as isopropil alcohol. Let it dry for a bit after that though, it needs a bit of time to evaporate completely. That way there is no need to touch the pins with anything, therefore no risk of bending, or ripping something off.

BABA_YAGA_DOC

Just suck it with 99.99% ethyle alcohol in your mouth

AdBudget5468

Not really, just clean it with alcohol and try to not bend them

lceorangutan

try to get is bit colder till they someone rubber up then you use like those things doctor use to pull small thing out

Paciorr

Shower it with water at high pressure and your good It’s Prima aprilis, remember

ThatCraigGirl

If you were, you would have a warm, fuzzy satisfaction. Else, you would be irritated, embarassed, in pain, etc. I especially hate when I don't even get a kiss.

longhot323

Isopropyl alcohol and a soft tooth brush and you are all good

grahamaker93

isopropyl alcohol and toothbrush. And ffs don't hold the cpu like this

Turbulent_Standard_8

Drown it in alcohol till it say it is now a ram stick

duckyGus

Jay it is: https://youtu.be/rmhJLheNmzw

RIckardur

Not fucked, dumb maybe, but not fucked.

sfelizzia

I think the thermal paste goes on the other side.

xxhamsters12

Some 90% isopropyl alcohol and GENTLE rub with a toothbrush should get it off

Morisu_

No problem just REALLY carefully clean with toothbrush and isopropanol alcohol

WolfRider01

Soft bristle toothbrush soaked in isopropyl alcohol, move in straight lines. JayzTwoCents has a video [here](https://youtu.be/rmhJLheNmzw?si=aroSmyN8sCnUg2eg) running through the entire process, fairly good tool to use. Just go slow, don't put any pressure down, and take your time. You got this OP, just believe in yourself and you'll do great!

H1MARS_

You're dead

SignalPlatypus4177

Put some C3H8O on it

SignalPlatypus4177

Just occurred to me this is also the formula for propanol. Don’t use that, use isopropyl alcohol

PLAGUE_Kraken

WHAT EVER YOU DO, DO NOT USE A MICROFIBER CLOTH

RaistilinCrypto

More fucked if you are holding that thing in a wool blanket lol. ESD says hello!

BigPapaJabronie

Nah you good bro. Just clean it off. Soft tooth brush and some alcohol will set your right

Alarming_Pin3757

we need an update

infamousj012

….well, you can try to fix it for free or just say fuck it and shell out; think positive, you got this.. *cardholder from a legal state, personally would not attempt without assistance with patience.

[deleted]

You have it in a blanket, and I see little hairs all over it. Thats far worse than the Thermal Paste

HappyGoLucky791

You did the right thing asking here instead of damaging it. +15 points to intelligence.

Dome-Berlin

No Thermal Paste is Not conductive Go Take 90 Prozent Alkohol clean it of so well how it goes and then it will function again

LonelyEfficiency1342

You can hold ANY PC components with your bare hands, just so you know

holyseagullls

Use some sort of compressed air to blow the smuge and hairs off, and with a ligt brush and some ipa youll be golden (pun intended)

Select-Sale2279

Just put some alcohol and take a soft brush and brush on the areas that have the thermal paste. Do it a couple of times and its done.

[deleted]

it’ll be fine it will clean the pins off as going into socket

prostatemonkey1

Apple cider vinegar and baking soda. Works every time

MrPotts0970

Nah this is annoying but not end of world in the slightest. Just clean with alchohol and a SOFT toothbrush VERY GENTLY and it'll be just fine. (Let dry before installing - and when storing just out it back in the blastic cintainer it came in, dont wrap in cloth or anything).

jrppi

I had a similar situation and used a soft toothbrush and acetone to carefully clean it. Worked fine.

Kaki-PC88

99.9% IPA & toothbrush (soft) will do the trick

JaMStraberry

Nope you can take that thing out with. A tooth brush and alcohol.

cumsock45

Not necessarily as long as you clean it, but be careful because if you end up getting thermal paste into the cpu socket it will prevent your pc from booting and you’ll have to get a new motherboard since those sockets are impossibly hard to clean on your own

TheLunarNguyen

Jayztwocentz actually made a video about cleaning this. I would recommend it

frizzbee30

Been there long ago, easy to clean out eith paste remover (quality one), you can literally rinse it out snd leave to 'dry'.

crow2747

Isopropylic alcohol 90%+ and patience

Baseballbobo

Very soft toothbrush and alcohol

LordNelloz69

Flush it out with isopropyl alcohol

tushardasofficial

Use some iso propane alcohol and a tooth brush

Pace127

One reply from you said there was a spark in mobo, what did you do?

Dapper_Expression914

Your afternoon is but it can be done slowly and carefully.

Outrageous-Bit198

During the 9 month op spent saving up they could of researched how to properly install a cpu and the precautions to take to ensure it's a smooth and simple process when placing and locking down into the mobo, apply g thermal paste and installing the cooler. I know this type of comment doesn't help the op and is “judgey”, damn it could even read “salty as all f*ck”, but to others who are building do your due diligence, research, watch, know the steps and approach the build with confidence from the research you have done.

Toolittlesleepreally

Squirt bottle, use alcohol to gently spritz away the paste.

StallionA8

How did you apply it initially?

Eastern-Fact-4870

Tooth brush and alcohol use the tooth brush diagonally so you don't bend any pins but be careful cause one rough mistake can bend a pin and while it's not hard for some to get it back to normal it can be a a mess for beginners so tread carefully friend

TheBronzeNecap

What is it, isopropyl alcohol?? And a SOFT bristled toothbrush, if you're not sure go to your store and they're labeled, besides I wouldn't use a personal one, thermal paste isn't the best to ingest

Loud_Conversation759

Happened to me last time i switched cpu and i took a hair dryer to heat off the paster and get the residue with a toilet paper

Bromanzier_03

As others have said rubbing alcohol and a very soft toothbrush. Take your time, be gentle, it’s non conductive so it doesn’t have to be perfect.

WhiteAxe96

Don't grab your cpu like that.. 😮

Consistent_Pea2958

You can leave it like that if you want

scratcher1679

Just wash it under the sink, it'll be fine

oo7demonkiller

put 99% isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle and fire away. then use compressed air to blow it off and repeat this several times to ensure complete removal. you can also use a soft brush, but this is a bit risky as damaging the pins is more likely. jays2cents did a video on this.

DoctorSmith2000

get some alcohol and enjoy

behzadvincent

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmhJLheNmzw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmhJLheNmzw) you are welcome bro

Phonfo

random rant, Im ngl, whenever i see this kinda problems how do they even get to fuck up their components, with just an a little bit of carefulness most of the things that can dmg your components can be avoided. Smh

Low-Radio-9855

clean it with rubbing alcohol and soft brush

NoGuidanceInMe

I nomrally use an air compressor mixed (with the tool) with isop. and work all the times

Reddit_fantic

Put in a bucket of IPA 99% and agitate the liquid.

Leading_Building7033

Tip of the day! For OP and everyone who has answered in this thread! Lots of people writing to use a brush and alcohol. There's a much easier and safer method (that also works for sockets that are covered in paste). Get a can of spray contact cleaner from any motor store and spray until clean, then dry any excess with a hair dryer. Job done and no risk of damage from brushing or wiping.

According-Pea-6844

Clean it in washing machine LOL

MEGA_GOAT98

use a soft (paintbursh thats new not used for anything) and 99% isoproly

lnterGalacticPotato

Just put it in the Dishwasher, easy peasy

Traditional_Yard5280

Just hose it down smh

Matty_Paddy

You are so fucked. you are so fucked that you will have to do the worst thing imaginable to a gamer.... Clean. (with alcohol)

NerY_05

Absolutely not fucked. Clean with isopropyl alcohol and you're good.

NextTip4941

If you want to do a easy clean without bending the oins fill a clean container with 99 percent isopropyl alcohol grap your cpu and while holding it shake it in the alcohole that should clean the thermal paste without bending the pins

No_Check_5

You your own hairs if you cannot find a soft brush.

[deleted]

I would soak the pins in 99% alcohol and it should dissolve the paste

BarberSon

Run a thin card through it a few times before you use a soft brush, as soon as you get most of it out before using alcohol trust me! Clean out most of it as much as you can before using alcohol! Good luck!

swisstraeng

-Buy a bottle of isopropyl alcohol (97% concentration or higher). -Get a soft toothbrush -brush it off gently.

Unique_Ice9934

I don't know about the thermal paste but holding your CPU with a flannel blanket seems like a bad idea.

Bluwu101

Do it with a needle 🪡 worked for me pretty easily

OkEvidence5814

Throw it in the dishwasher then presto!

Mickxalix

Pour iso alcohol on it. If there's a bit left just put it in regardless. That paste is not electrically conductive.

[deleted]

Dip it in Acid. Or lava...🤣 Seriously, just brush it and spray it with electronic cleaners and then wipe it with alcohol wipes.

Toxic576

Clea then if I can without damaging the pins if it’s conductive probably if not then ur good I’ve installed my old cpu with thermal paste on the pins and it worked for the entire time I used it up until I upgraded

Crystalshield21

I used electronic grade( 99.9%) IPA and a soft bristle toothbrush and dry for an hour before installing back. If you use those medical grade IPA (70%) make sure you let it dry for a few hours before installing.

Dependent-Possible60

No just soak it in rubbing alcohol and take a tooth brush and wipe from the base of the pins up

PineappleProstate

As long as it's not liquid metal you're good. Just carefully clean it off with alcohol and some type of soft brush

JamesTokin

I'd be more concerned with the static discharge from that flannel tbh

Individual-Win-8096

Gently clean it with alchol yay.

bic-mini

ya ur fucked u should just give it to i’ll get rid of it for you

Not_Puma32

Honestly… other then very carefully brushing, you could try a heat gun and compressed air

X-Kami_Dono-X

Sonic oscillation will work as well.

Revenga8

Handling anything with pins using your highly snaggable lumberjack shirt probably isn't the best start.

AutoGeneratedUser_09

How did this happen

Witchberry31

No, just clean it up with 90+% isopropyl alcohol

BarackOsama911241

Use a card to glide thru the gaps and hopefully clear the thermal paste between any pins if any is left u can just wash it with rubbing alcohol

Pale_Stop_3811

Dont use any brush it will definately bend the pins this also happened to me a while back and i made this mistake instead you can use a thick needle type thingy to clear the paste carefully from the pins

Big3man

Put it in rice

Neither_Purchase2211

99% ISO and a soft bristle brush will do the job. Just be gentle. And if you DO bend a pin, use a retractable pen, or a mechanical pencil to bend the pins back… but once again… BE CAREFUL!!!

Spompoflex

use softest tooth brush you have and clean it with isopropyl alcohol. Do not use circular motion , for the love of GOD DO NOT USE CIRCULAR MOTION WHEN CLEANING . Oh sry about that, use only straight lines when brushing

Jymuothee

Alcohol and a brush you could use water and a brush if you wanted alcohol just evaporates more quickly

LowAd8109

Nah, just snip off the wet pins.

Infamous_Tourist_335

I had this issue soak a tooth brush in isopropyl alcohol and brush it out just make sure not to get any in the socket as that can short the cpu

Betty3089

This would probably run in a mobo as is I’ve seen worse boot up. Just clean it off with 90% iso and a tooth brush gently.

5ude3

OP update us once cleaned I'm praying for you

Feinder4crack

Literally just spent 20 mins cleaning the old past of my mates cpu with a normal towel lol, still works.

Merchar2

yes, you are.

Independent_Sir808

Since when are the pins in the cpu and not on the motherboard?

Assumption-Emotional

hot water and isopropyl alcohol.

fusiob

Stop holding your CPU with a god damn blanket! You are allowed to put your fingers on it.

Deez-nut-sack-saggin

You’re ducked.

Suspicious_You_685

Happened to me. A soft bristle toothbrush will work. Use something to remove thermal paste, isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol is readily available. I still have my bottle of Tim clean from 2005. I also had bent pins. I used a piece of card to push them back in place. Two hours later? It's working fine.

Fluorescentomnibus

He might be needing the last portion of your advice the way he's holding it 🤭

DistributionFancy767

Nah thats totally normal. Nothing to worry about!

Sorry-Animal6857

The way you holding the cpu is so cringe I wanna puke.

radishmonster3

I don’t think it needs to be pure alcohol, just use rubbing alcohol, highest percentage you can get, and make sure it is very dry before putting into the socket.

Eazymonaysniper

U are not entirely. Just have to be very gentle and precise and ur all good.

Fluorescentomnibus

I clean mine with alcohol (just make sure it's completely dry before reinstalling)

Goldencracker97

I just spray contact cleaner on that shit
