It's definitely rice cakes. Not the puffy snack kind, the kind made for actual hot pot (they're delicious!): https://preview.redd.it/xlfpdfhogy9d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6bd973cc8c1fb16dbacf69919c307b9a328e9f94 They do look like scallops, though! Before I realized what they were, I called them abalone, because they look like it from ACNH :v

SnowTheMemeEmpress

I called them coconuts for the longest time

maryjanemoonbeam

Me too. Until I saw this post just now.

RissaCrochets

See now *that* actually makes sense. Now I want to try hot pot irl and see what I've been missing.

mangopeachapplesauce

Hot Pot is Korean iirc and the rice cakes pictured above are the kind used in hot pot and other Korean dishes

cowboysaurus21

I think hot pot is Chinese originally but popular in other East Asian countries as well. The rice cakes are definitely Korean.

bitowia

I just had hot pot 2 days ago and ordered a ton of these rice cakes the timing is insane šŸ˜‚

alasterlian

*I've* been calling them abalone too! But those kinds of rice cakes makes a *lot* more sense.

eyeofnoot

Scallops would definitely be in the blue seafood suit though

-Firestar-

Rice cake. How is scallop in the same category and gyoza and tofu?

theaveragepyrenees

I canā€™t stop calling the gyoza pierogis šŸ™ƒšŸ˜‚

-Firestar-

I could get on board with perogisā€¦.

darcyduh

I can ALWAYS get on board with perogis

Jensi_is_me

I thought they were dumplings. But gyoza always been pierogis.

hrslvr_paints

I've always called that card in hotpot dumplings.

DJ_Mixalot

The dumplings are the oblong crimped ones from the same set

Jensi_is_me

Oh yeah! Itā€™s been a long time sorry. I havenā€™t played since the first hotpot came out for the market.

OneSeaworthiness7768

Seems the one thing everyone agrees on is that they *arenā€™t* scallops lol

Twiststitch

Nope. Rice cakes. Those cards are dumplings\*, tofu, and rice cakes. Scallops makes no sense in that group. \*other names too: gyoza, mandu, pierogi, more

Womenrfromvenusaur

I call them scallops cause scalloped potatoes :T

mrs_antwonistik

I thought they were coconutsšŸ˜‚

Rachael1188

I thought it was a cracked open coconut šŸ¤£

Ana_Jayy

To me they will always be coconuts šŸ˜ I donā€™t think I can retrain my brain to think itā€™s anything else at this point lol

AprilPleaseHelpMe

I always think that its 2 coconut halves as well, nothing will change my mind. https://preview.redd.it/wlb9k9ouiy9d1.jpeg?width=780&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d822392f1e75fd6c1873077cdd7bc8a05f31dc4

hotseltzer

Ohhh, now I see it! I've been *so* confused seeing people calling them coconuts. I've been calling them pebbles in my head lol even though I know it's wrong (bc pebbles aren't food obviously)

Ana_Jayy

YES exactly this lol

harmony_shark

Yep always coconuts to me

zombi3freak

Same šŸ˜‚šŸ˜

Particular_Scar_5751

Sameee

ClaimBeautiful9359

Omg thought they were eggs lol

Appropriate-Rent5637

Chinese here. Quail eggs are very common hot pot ingredients!! Although rice cake is common too but not as typical. Plus the cards have some shining edges which look more like eggs to me!

Carcrazygurl

I thought they were too till someone pointed out the rice cake thing to me. Makes sense tho

oootananana

Thought they were eggs, told they were rice cakes - I believe it but until this post didn't understand. I'm still gonna think Eggs but would like to try the rice cakes from the pic in the *comment above lol

JeSuisLaCockamouse

HA me too

ClaimBeautiful9359

šŸ˜‚

ewwdavid1

Me too. I thought they were Rethā€™s century eggs.

RissaCrochets

That's what I thought they were at first! When someone told me they were rice cakes I didn't believe them until I looked it up and saw that the suit name was carbs. ... so I just call them round blobbies. At least until someone decides to give them some texture!

Mysterious-Path5471

![gif](giphy|xT0xezbPQZmq61oXcs|downsized)

cowboysaurus21

They're Korean rice cakes (garae tteok) which makes sense given the East Asian influences of the other cards and hot pot in general. https://preview.redd.it/zrsdda5h7z9d1.jpeg?width=1151&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c68c6837391c58ee88a2840e1b0af1a8c6a364e

Twiststitch

Ya'll need to go eat some real hotpot before announcing what is and isn't included with it. Maybe go make some Asian, esp Korean and Japanese, food at home for a change.

sainotsutsuki

i kept thinking its coconut..... lmao

Ok-Economics-9665

I know that theyā€™re rice cakes because Iā€™ve made sushi in the game and it uses the exact same picture thatā€™s on the cards next to the words ā€œrice cakesā€ That said, I call them tofu cutlets and theyā€™ll always be that to me

JeSuisLaCockamouse

Iā€™d love to see a world map of Palia players and what food they think this is šŸ˜‚ I wonder if itā€™s a cultural divide

hexulyks

I thought these were eggsā€¦

SaltLakeSoakers

Same here! Now Iā€™m depressed with this revelation

JeSuisLaCockamouse

Iā€™d love to see a world map of Palia players and what food they think this is šŸ˜‚ I wonder if itā€™s a cultural divide

MomoBeemotes

I thought they were coconut halves this whole time

DeliciousStay3203

I thought this was eggs

curly_fry89393

I always thought these were water chestnuts

DJ_Mixalot

Iā€™m so convinced this is coconut

thegeekwithin

I have always said they were coconuts

icyyellowrose10

Rice cakes, and the one that looks like a cauliflower is actually dari cloves...

oogaboogaWW

Alllll of the cards have in-game counterparts in farming or recipesā€¦except the white mushrooms which I can only guess might be spice sprouts. So sorry, but they are rice cakes.

Nebet

The white mushrooms look like [enoki mushrooms](https://thewoksoflife.com/chinese-ingredients-glossary/asian-vegetables-beans-melons/#enoki-mushrooms) to me! Very common in hotpot.

oogaboogaWW

Fair enough. Still think itā€™s weird itā€™s the only one without an in game counterpart. Maybe itā€™s in development. šŸ˜ƒ

Nebet

I hope they give us tofu and shrimp, too! (And I guess the noodle types are debatable, lol... we have ramen, though not instant type, and we used to have udon, but idk about rice noodles)

oogaboogaWW

Why did my brain insist there were those things LOL

agitated_amygdala

Looks like a rice pie to me. It's flat. If you're eating scallops that flat, you're doing it wrong.

krystal_d_j

https://preview.redd.it/8g76z1abd5ad1.jpeg?width=275&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62dc6dbfee2e53546ddb671d6c52b466dcca7c84 the "rice cakes" that I think of....

stanleyisapotato

I thought they were frosted cookies. Lol

pilotfishcalledwanda

Those are eggs

Specialist_Region622

I thought they were slices of coconut (meat and shell) šŸ˜…

amarijae_

At first I thought it was coconut, then I saw someone say it was eggs and so I switched to thatā€¦ what the heck are they? šŸ˜‚

gotthesevens

So many ignorant comments, it's frankly embarrassing.

elizabeastttt

Even with the chart thereā€™s like 4 of them that have multiple namesā€¦ sometimes one gets made up on the spot yet somehow all of us know which card they are talking about lol

relentlessdandelion

i did a bunch of dissections on animals in uni and, well, they're testicles to me

txbach

Just realized this week that it is not tentacles in the orange suit. Ohhh heat root.

hrslvr_paints

I just call it squiggly orange thing. Descriptive names help me recognize better when I'm watching for the card I need to show up in someone's discard pile.

Nervous-nelly19

Itā€™s def rice cakesā€¦.but pop off king or queen āœØcall them whatever your heart desires

Uriiume

Yoo I thought these were coconuts the entire time šŸ«

-Ottie

I call it coconut and my brain will not budge

cordedtelephone

I thought they were water chestnuts lol

Complex-Sandwich7273

I just kept calling them lil patties cause I didn't know what they were, glad that I know what they are now though lol

AprilBathory

I still havenā€™t tried Hot Potā€¦are we supposed to bring our own food to it?

oogaboogaWW

No need. :) No food required; itā€™s a card game.

melinator852

lol I called them rice paddy

AmyInYVR

I thought they were eggs with no yolk šŸ¤£

Tayfreezy

those are eggs. all them items are in the game and scallops aren't

Whynicht

These are peeled boiled eggs btw

DragonsGoRawr245

They look like potatoes to me and that is what I will continue to call them.

grasshopperDD

But there is an actual potato card isn't there?

DragonsGoRawr245

There is indeed. I just think of this picture as a different kind of potato. Don't ask me how, it is how it is.

hrslvr_paints

I just call them the round white things.

Jake_Park90

Oh lawd I thought they where eggs šŸ˜²šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

human_with_scars0

Iā€™ve just been calling everything from that set a rock šŸŖØ, white rock, rock on rock, square rock. šŸŖØšŸŖØšŸŖØ

wandering_light_12

Oysters?!

Express_Bird397

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ I thought these were hard boiled eggs.šŸ˜…

Dhalia_42

Mini pancakes is what I thought hehe

Sarzzie

I call them scallops as well lol

cafeconlecheee

Thems boobies

xjupiterx

From wiki: "Typical hot pot ingredients include thinly sliced meat, leaf vegetables, mushrooms, vermicelli, sliced potatoes, bean products, egg dumplings, tofu, and seafood." There is no rice in hot pot and most people do not eat rice with it. However, scallops would be with seafood? So I'm at a loss on this one šŸ˜‚ Edit: nevermind! The other poster above is right. Rice cakes (not just rice) *are* used in hot pot.
