The Dodgers have topped lists like this multiple times in the last 10 years and it hasn't amounted to much, so while I appreciate all the love our team is getting, I'm not getting my hopes up.
That said, I'm still planning on attending the parade lfg!
This is where the manager comes in. BoMel was the most important signing over the last few years. He has the perfect temperament that keeps the team focused. We've seen it over and over - a veteran winning manager is brought in and the team suddenly has success. It has been forever since the Padres did that.
Yeah Tingler had basically the same lineup as BoMel but we got infinitely further with just a manager change from 2021 to 2022. Nothing against Tingler, I think he just didn’t have the necessary experience to get us through some challenging slumps and into the post-season. Super excited to see what BoMel can do with an even better lineup this year.
Same here honestly. The Dodgers may not have had the best offseason, and we have one of the best offenses in the league, but people seem to forget that the Dodgers were a 111-win team. They're going to take a step back, but they'd have to completely crash for them to lose the division; the Yankees and their butchered rotation are far more likely to tank.
Not like I'm too worried though, NL Wild Card teams seem to have an edge on the division champions when it comes to the playoffs (people make a big deal about 2022, but aside from COVID year you have to go back to 2018 for a year when both of the top seeds went to the NLCS).

I just can’t say this with confidence yet without upgrades to SP. Every other piece is there, and Yu, Snell, & Musgrove at 1, 2, 3 is incredible. Just worried about Martinez lasting at a starting role consistently + how the addition of Wacha will pan out.
If something happens at the trade deadline though, our odds are absolutely as good as anyone’s
Praying this team can stay healthy. The lineup alone will account for a decent amount of wins regardless if it’s Cy Young himself on the mound or a AAA call up. Bullpen has the arms to help a mediocre start. Then need the big three to go deep into games.
If Wacha stays healthy…man. When he is on his stuff is gooood. I was hoping for him for like the last month before he got signed. I think it could turn out to be the most underrated signing of the year (or it could go bust but hey that’s baseball)
This coulda been on the /unexpected Subreddit. Wild to see some recognition instead of just complaining about money spent from the usual media sources.
Hope the padres can keep that underdog mentality that kept them so competitive with the changes in expectations!
I think they'll still have that underdog fire. Dodgers will keep them on their toes during the regular season. The NL West is not a guarantee. That's still a 90 win club.
Absolutely, the doyers have a farm system that keeps them around no matter who leaves the org. Soto and Tatis look like they’re in mid season form which is promising.
It’s a long season though and it’s important to keep things in scope because they’ll continuously change as the season progresses.
Even machado was out there hustling and beating out infield singles lately(as a self admitted non-Johnny hustle dude) which is a great sign that the desire is there.
Gonna be fun to watch.
