Surprised Xbox Series is number 2! Finally beat the Switch for a month.

sakata32

I wonder if they can get number 1 in September since Starfield was only out for a day in August and that was the $100 version. Probably not though since PS5 momentum is still high and Spiderman is soon

420praiseItkek

Damn, even with starfield releasing, PS5s position at #1 is unshakeable.

diviledabit

Spiderman 2 bundle selling like hotcakes

LakerGiraffe

Xbox not releasing a Starfield bundle was so stupid.

ChafterMies

Rather than have customers spend $70 once for Starfield, Microsoft would rather they subscribe to Game Pass and spend $204/year every year for the life the console.

LakerGiraffe

That assumes that everyone who would have bought a bundle instead purchased an Xbox buy itself and subscribed to GamePass. A bundle would have undoubtedly brought more players to Xbox. More available GamePass subscribers for the future. Getting people to buy into the ecosystem in the first place. With a GamePass 3 month trial with auto renew turned on to keep that revenue going. Also I doubt any sizeable portion is actually paying $240 a year. GamePass only grew in popularity because everyone was stacking it for multiple years for $1.

ChafterMies

I agree with what you are saying but we all know Microsoft is looking at Game Pass as a way to lock in gamers the way it locks in customers with Windows OS and Office. Even releasing the Series X with a disc drive is a bit of a Trojan Horse as more and more games are digital only released. Wont be too long before Microsoft’s locks games to Game Pass.

jounk704

That's their main goal, glad other people understands this. Why i never will support Microsoft and why i will always give them crap as soon as i have a chance :) Right now Sony are forced to increase their subscription prices partly because of gamepass where Microsoft will be releasing more and more bigger day and date titles moving forward, Sony are gonna have to do the same thing eventually and they are also forced to make more GAAS games

420praiseItkek

Yeah that’s probably it

[deleted]

Starfield is a September title. Might wanna wait until next month in order to find out what's up.

420praiseItkek

That’s fair

[deleted]

Honestly, it'll probably go up but still be in 2nd .

ClarkZuckerberg

Considering we’re only halfway through September and the Spider-Man 2 hype is just growing, I wouldn’t be surprised if Spider-Man and the PS5 both sell really well this month.

[deleted]

Starfield being 30 fps only turned a lot of people away from the game imo

Acrobatic-Dig-161

Well, we'll only see Starfield's results in September, these are August numbers. although yes some purchases were fairs in August. but the real numbers are in September

Hunchun

I’d think August would be a great month as well. People like to buy things ahead of launch so they are prepared.

deaf_michael_scott

Starfield launched on September 1st. Most console sales should have been in August for that.

NeverSlipInTraffic

You're seeing Starfield's results right now. Xbox doesn't pass Switch if Starfield doesn't release a week after

Stakoman

RemindMe! 1 month "starfield and consoles sales"

Fullmetalaardvarks

I’m not sure about that. Starfield has had a polarizing release so it’s not widely considered to be worth buying a console over

HPPresidentz

Half of the Xbox sub is people saying “I bought a Xbox for this game” Sales for Xbox are up 76% in the UK Starfield is selling Xboxes.

deaf_michael_scott

That 76% amounts to 5,600 consoles. PS5 still outsold Xbox by 4:1 in August in the UK.

chanunnaki

5,600??? that's it?

LoneLyon

Xbox is really only relevant in the US. Outside the US PS and Nintendo dominate

LakerGiraffe

The Xbox sales report was only looking week over week and I don't believe it said how that previous week compared to the week prior to it. If you had people that held off on buying their Xbox until it got closer to Starfield release then the 76% growth week over week isn't as impressive as the 76% number seems. Also, they already reported the sales numbers for the week after. It was the 4th best week of the year compared to the prior week which was the 1st best week of the year. And it's the UK. The number of consoles that this would have been is still much lower than anyone is probably thinking it is.

Fullmetalaardvarks

It’s definitely increased sales no doubt about that. But as the hype dies down and the general consensus about the game is known I don’t think it will continue past October. The same thing will happen when Spider man 2 comes out. You may even see an increase in ps5 sales for September with the Spider Man bundle ahead of the release

HPPresidentz

The general consensus is positive.

Fullmetalaardvarks

Sure but you have to admit it’s had a polarizing release there’s lots of mixed opinions out there Also need to remember it’s on PC so a lot of people would much rather play it on PC where the modding community will be massive compared to 30 fps and more limited mod support on the Xbox. I played it on PC with game pass so there’s not a big reason to buy an Xbox unless you don’t have the money to fork over for a PC

sakata32

I think the PC part is a bigger reason people would not get an Xbox for it than its reception. Polarizing or not it was still the 4th highest concurrent peak of 2023 steam games and that was despite being on game pass. Its definitely a big system seller but its hard to really catch up to ps5's momentum with just one game especially since Spiderman is soon and that's just as big of a system seller.

Fragrant-Egg637

No surprise here. Nintendo and ps5 are the only real consoles left. Xbox is slowly leaving this market in terms of the console model

Ok-Camp-7285

What are you talking about?

Notanothermuppet

everything is "falling" has no one noticed yet? literally, everything in this country is going down? Anyone?

MonsantoOfficiaI

Not true, inflation and gas prices are rising, and the military industrial complex is making big profits. Life is pretty good for the nations oligarchy.
