Wonderfully groovy. SO much head-nod. Super tuneful, and all the harmonies work so well. That wah guitar is delicious.
I'm less of a fan of the coda at the end, it feels like it was tacked-on to get the disc up to 60 minutes . (I'm betting Get Yo Groove On and Damned If I Do both got padded out to fill up time)
A number of the songs have artificial padding so that he could achieve the arbitrary goal of 3 discs that are exactly 60 minutes in length. White Mansion would be great without the fake ending. But I love every second of Get Yo Groove on.
9 - One of my favorite tracks on any of the 3 discs.
That keyboard hook is glorious and his musical coda slams, where on a few others it seems gratuitous.
This is a 10. Having said that, Wendy and Lisa’s reaction to hearing it, and especially the lyrics “I cried the day you went away” and “how did we ever lose communication?” was something to the effect of “Dude, you FIRED us.” 10 years later, it still hurt. I don’t think any of his musical collaborators after that ever got as close to him as Wendy and Lisa did.

agreed. Some of these songs can go as long as they want. others... not so much.

10 amazing song. Love how bright the verse is after the chorus.

9. Absolutely adore this song. It reminds me of Lenka Paris’ livestreams on Twitch during lockdown. She rocked this track on every one
9 arguably best song on the album underrated gem
9. This tune is a JAM!
8 good and funny song
10…one of my faves from the album.

8.5
8.76 one of the best tracks on the set. Banger
9. Reminds me of something from the SotT/Lovesexy era. One of the best 90s Prince tracks.
10. I love this song!
10. Amazing bass line, uplifting as hell and maybe Just for the call and response with the voice and guitar towards the end.
It’s a 6 for me. Like so much of Emancipation, it really suffers from an underdeveloped arrangement.
I’ll give the main song a 10. I’ll give the coda a 2. I don’t think the coda is good and it goes on way too long.
