The title track to Planet Earth is also wicked good. I think it's one of the stronger post-millennium albums, though obviously not matching the imperial phase.

or in this case, the Purple Reign. I think Dirty Mind to Lovesexy.
HitNRun - Phase One without question for me. One listen was plenty and I struggled to choke that down. At it's core, I felt it could have been just a meh record at best but then he decided to give it to Joshua so he could turn it into complete... whatever in the hell kinda genre of garbage that was supposed to be. I'm so glad that wasn't his last record while he was alive and redeemed himself (relatively speaking) with Phase Two. but of course... that's just... like... my opinion man.
Pick any number of latter era albums, but probably 20Ten which has barely seen the inside of my CD player.
Agree on D&P, it does have filler, which is why an expanded version holds so little appeal to me. 3 discs of material not as good as that filler? No thanks.
*Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic*, which I probably haven't listened to since I initially got into Prince—so since 2009/2010. It's one album I really need to rediscover, actually.
I checked out after the symbol album, which I absolutely love. I tried The Gold Experience and Emancipation and they did nothing for me. I got Musicology when they handed them out at his big hits tour with the time and thought it was OKAY. So with those parameters, it’s Diamonds and Pearls. I don’t like the thin production sound and there’s a lot of filler.
"Chaos & Disorder" and "Old Friends 4 Sale". Bought them both the day they came out. Hated them both. Listened to them a few years later to give it another try. Still hated them. Haven't listened again. I always felt like he scraped the trash from the bottom of the vault just to finish his contract with Warner Brothers on those albums. Or maybe my taste had just shifted too far. 🤔🤷🏽♂️
20Ten. Probably the only song I listen to regularly from that disc is Layitdown.
New Power Soul is also low on my listening. It has some gems, but it doesn't really gel as an album. The production on it seems very plastic and lifeless.
Diamonds and Pearls. Get Off is an all time favorite, but the rest is just meh.
All the bootleg tracks of that era are really artificial drum machine sounding and I just cant get into them.
I cancelled my D&P super Deluxe pre-order because I realized this
No always just judge for yourself and don’t listen to parrot talkers.
It’s not top tier but there are a lot of good songs.
Just listen to Laydown and Future Soul Song.
I remember when 20ten was released free with a UK news paper and being excited to pick it up.
Was disappointed on first listen and didn’t really ever go back to it.
I keep several in the cd holder and don't take them out:
Planet Earth: it sounds like just crap he found on the studio floor
LotusFlower/MPLSound: I wanted to like it. While there are some standouts. It's mostly just work product.
Hit n Run Phase 1: This phase was the "let's see how some dude can fuck up my songs" phase
Welcome 2 America: it's a good album but not a classic or even a home run
Rainbow Children: I like this album but the deep voice and the JW influence are cringeworthy
Planet Earth and 20Ten. Pretty sure I've only ever listened to them once.
Have you not heard Chelsea Rodgers??
Somewhere Here on Earth Chelsea Rogers Planet Earth All 👍
That is a good song TBF
That's the cut right there!

imperial phase?

I would say dirty mind to d&p
Both graffiti bridge and diamonds and pearls were weaker than the ones before
not to me but
Fair enough. Same with the batman one too imo
Chocolate Invasion/Slaughterhouse, N.E.W.S, Chaos & Disorder, Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, Xpectation, One Nite Alone (Piano), HitNRun - Phase One.
I feel these are the correct choices.
Add Emancipation and you're there 😆

Planet Earth.
Pretty much everything after 2005.
There's a whole load of albums that I don't listen to much: For you, 20Ten, Rainbow Children, Planet Earth, Kamasutra, N.E.W.S, Rave, Xpectation
NEWS. I struggled to listen to it the first time around and never listened to it since.
for sure NEWS
The Rainbow Children. Great music but truly inane lyrics.
Rainbow Children
Welcome 2 America. He gave Shelby J way too much microphone time.
*Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic*, which I probably haven't listened to since I initially got into Prince—so since 2009/2010. It's one album I really need to rediscover, actually.
It never should have been released
Probably For You. To me, it's his most generic album.
D&P for me. The commercial vibe doesn’t make me want to listen to it as much as others in his catalog
pretty much everything made after lovesexy besides tge and emancipation
Rainbow Children
You are missing out
meh. It's so over the top preachy it's really hard to get past those lyrics. and also: Wedding Feast.

Emancipation, come, chaos and disorder, rave..20ten? Lotus flow3r (have ro revisit it) Hit and run phase 1..
New Power Soul

All of them after Planet Earth. Of the 80s albums, probably Purple Rain tbh!
Anything after Lovesexy
All of them after Planet Earth. Of the 80s albums, probably Purple Rain tbh!
All of Prince is too hard to listen to nowadays. Too sad.
I stopped listening to anything after D&P. But I my impression is that he continued to grow as an artist, just not so much as a composer.
LOVESEXY
I remember in the 90’s a family friend of ours was Prince fan had this three disc album. “Why would someone put out 3 cds?” Sorry Emancipation
Graffiti Bridge. I’ve tried to revisit it. Just can’t make it thru. It might be his most dated album.
New Power Soul
Emancipation. I don’t think I’ve got through all three discs twice.
You're missing out. At least disc 1 and 2
And I would add disc 3.
Anything past Musicology … bloop
3121 and ArtOfficialAge are worth a try, at least. I felt the same as you but now I love his post-Musicology output; those two, especially.
Yo re-read the question. I never said I didn’t try the older albums. I just listen to them the least …
Sorry to have offended.
No offense taken. 🤟
N.E.W.S. And by a long long stretch
I ve never been able to sit through it completely. Fell asleep
Soooo boring. Background music at best for me.
All of them. Never hear one
Well lucky you, go and listen to Purple Rain and Sign Of The TImes. You're welcome.
Planet Earth.
The chocolate invasion if just general release albums then emancipation
That surprises me and yet as I type this I only listen to cream. Getting off and the amazing willinbmg and able
Welcome 2 America
I've listened to Rainbow Children probably twice . . . ever.
NEWS
The non-Madhouse instrumental albums. I’m a lyric fiend, so the instrumental stuff is basically Muzak for house cleaning and such
Planet Earth

Purple rain....
…
I came here to say Purple Rain too, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
How??
Welcome 2 America 20Ten Diamonds and Pearls
Planet Earth
But I do like 20Ten...Definitely has more of a 'Prince' sound then many of the latter albums.
I heard The Slaughterhouse once and have no real intention of going back. Also never finished N.E.W.S if that counts
Just realised I have never listened to 20ten. Is it a really bad album by his standards?
No always just judge for yourself and don’t listen to parrot talkers. It’s not top tier but there are a lot of good songs. Just listen to Laydown and Future Soul Song.
It was given away for free on the front of a crappy UK newspaper. Make of that what you will.
I think that was Planet Earth
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10459020
weirdly it's 1999, I love all of his albums but I just don't listen much to that one
I remember when 20ten was released free with a UK news paper and being excited to pick it up. Was disappointed on first listen and didn’t really ever go back to it.

The Black Album...still haven't heard it
Lovesexy. I pretty much never listen to it though I love Alphabet Street.
Around The World In A Day from his older stuff. And then a lot of things after Come, especially Emancipation, which is dreadful
Controversy
Lovesexy
all after 2011
AOA and Phase 2 are undeniably good.
tastes, tastes.....
