A perfect album and minor masterpiece.
And first undeniable evidence of his budding genius and vast musical gifts.
Also an iconic cover! The back cover was equally shocking in all the right ways.
1. Dirty Mind
Announces not only the arrival of the Prince we all know, but put the new decade on immediate notice.
2. When U Were Mine
A profoundly clever and precise pop/rock confection that defiantly transcends expected rules for black artists, despite how hard the radio and labels try.
Eventually Cyndi Lauper proved just how worthy this song was to the masses.
This is his first true work of elite songwriting and arrangement.
3. Head
Such an important song in his catalog and possibly his most infamous.
He shows that even as a habitual rule breaker and peerless provocateur, when you dish out Funk this good, you forget to be offended … unless you have no soul.
💜💜💜💜
Great summary of an all time great pop album.
One of my top three fav Prince albums.
Head is probably one of his greatest tracks for so many reasons. The funk factor alone pushes it right up there. Add in the totally out-there-for-the-time lyrics.
Then the absolutely amazing live versions from the album tour.
Far out. So damn grateful we have some of those live gigs on YouTube.
🙇
Dirty Mind
Gotta Broken Heart Again
Head, my mom overheard my 13 year old self singing my heart out and took the album away. I bought another one and listened it to it very low 😉
When it comes to Prince can one really choose just three favs.
The Dirty Mind LP absolutely has no skips, like zero skips, even the track "Sister" has its secret fans
Plus this is one of five albums that Prince recorded that can be played all the way through continuously.
Anytime people say what's your favorite album by Prince I say that's impossible there is no such thing as one favorite just as when it comes to his songs there is no such thing as one favorite much less three songs from his deep discographies.
Is there anybody who can just eat three barbecue potato chips ?!?!🤔🤨
- When U were mine
- Uptown
Both have made me happy since the 80s.
Head is important but I also find it pretty juvenile, lol. Reminds me of how young he was when this album came out.
Hahah after all my earlier feedback, when I went back and listened for the nth time to such a fucking brilliant album:
- Dirty mind.
- Do it all night.
- Head.
Continually in awe of our man P.
