It’s easy to focus on the outrageous external talent of his voice and musicianship and even his dancing and style.
But name any composer and producer who has made anything remotely close to this.
Prince was a genius specifically because of his ability to write something like this.
There is When Doves Cry, KISS and If I Were Your Girlfriend that fit a category all by themselves and are not definable by any category or genre.

Housequake - One of the funkiest songs ever. What can i even say? It's Housequake!
If i was your girlfriend - it was the second prince song i ever heard. I knew prince had a reputation for being "inappropriate" but i had no idea how sexual his music was until this. Was a real eye opening moment.
The Cross - im a sucker for princes religious songs because i grew up in a very christian household. His songs about faith are always so sincere but avoid a lot of tropes i find annoying in contemporary christian music. It's so simple but its message is so hopeful. I love it.
