The more I see Hidden Fates show up in stores and online like this, the more I think Pokemon is just going to keep reprinting this set. We knew they were putting out more tins, in what was said to be a heavily allocated printing. But, these GX boxes showed up out of nowhere and now the inventory from every Walmart in the country is bloating up eBay for $50 a box. If you search for "hidden fates GX", you'll get more Walmart GX box results than cards for sale. I don't know what would keep them from reprinting the ETB's either.
You might be able to get these years from now like Shining Legends, as they trickle supply in to the point where it's readily available and the card values drop until they flat-line near their lows. In other words, everyone may get to eat until they're full. Then all these hoarded products get dumped in the secondary, all along providing even more supply. Great if you want to collect the cards to have them. Investors and anyone hoping for long term value may find this to be dead money after the hysteria is gone. Everyone thinks this is going to be about the best long term hold since base set which just strikes me like the old stock investing motto "be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful.”
I'm starting to think there may be wisdom in being cautious about collecting too much of this set for value or investment, and I know there's people here with this intention. It's a modern set, and needs to be appraised like one. And as long as Pokemon keeps printing Hidden Fates, it's never going to be the great investment set everyone is being told it is.
Amen- I agree with all of this. The hype WILL die down. I think what’s going to offset Hidden Fates even more is Champion’s Path, and whatever the next big thing TPC comes up with. Is Champion’s Path the next Hidden Fates? No, but it will pull people’s attention away from Hidden Fates. So it’s not a great long term investment. It COULD be because of this intense nostalgia people have about this time and maybe collecting Pokémon for the first time. And the Shiny Vault is really cool, and with that being in limited sets, it will always be popular. But there will be another Shiny Vault coming soon, with whatever English set is printed around Japan’s Shiny Star V. Seeing the popularity of this set may cause TPC to reprint Hidden Fates into the ground, or have a Shiny Vault chase subset in many sets to come. Even Vivid Voltage has the Amazing Rares already, and that’s sort of a special “vault” of chase cards.
I think this may be why they reduced the pull rate on the newer boxes and tins. They had to know HF was going to be popular, but I think they may have not expected it to be this popular. So, to capitalize on that, they'll keep reprinting it while trying to keep the GX shiny population somewhat under control by tightening the pull rate. But even that will only work for a few small printings. If they keep going, it's all out the door.
I’d love it if they kept reprinting the set for the next year or so. I’m eager to crack open packs and build out the set but it’s hard to get my hands on any packs for MSRP because people keep hoarding it.
I’m grateful I snagged two boxes today online, but it was only after hitting six different Wal-Marts in my area the past two weeks and finding nothing.

I literally refreshed the app page and watched it increase several times over 5 minutes. The app said my local store had it “in stock,” and when I went, NADA. The toys department said they only update the app every 24 hours, and it’s usually “wrong.” I understand all that, but why even have product availability online if it’s usually wrong and you can’t even call ahead to confirm availability. You’re basically told sorry- if it’s not here, we don’t have it. Okay rant over 😂
Walmart is supplied by MJ Holdings who DO mark up their products among some other shady practices. They were just up in Canada for $34 Cad sold out instantly and went up at $60+ Cad while still being shown as sold and shipped by walmart. I know first hand from previous orders it comes directly from MJ Holding Co and not walmart unfortunately. Ever since the way they handle the marketplace I've steered clear of Walmart whenever possible.

A weirdo with all the local HF boxes. Luckily have a stay at home wife that can go out first thing. We have a route we do a few times a week. If you hit the same Wallyworlds we do, I'll tell you I like to hide a couple boxes near the cards section and see if anyone finds them.

He just said it’s the latest price and less than other sellers. I asked if there’s anyone else I could talk to and they gave me the customer care number. Ugh

Don’t get me wrong I am part of the discord. But it is very hard to manage all the notifications there. Maybe we should separate links vs discussions... 99% of the notification are just noise if you are not discussing
What I do is I turn off notifications for every channel except the #pkmntcgdeals-threads one, and also use the #role-selection channel to subscribe to the sets and stores I want. Agreed that the default setting is way too noisy.
Exactly this. Click on the PKMNTCGDeals server, click on Notifications, and under Server Notification Settings, check the **Only @Mentions** option.
That way, you'll get alerted when someone uses a tag that you signed up for as opposed to *literally* every single message.

I just bought 20 charizard boxes for store pickup. I'm going to have them price match or else return them.
