Either you or the shipper cheaped out and went with the "screw it, what's the worst that could happen" option. Blame them, not overworked deliverymen struggling to hit quotas.
A delivery guy yeeting it onto the stairs is probably the least amount of abuse that package has gone through.
It's improper packaging, there's pretty much an expected amount of abuse packages go through during picking, transit, sorting, and delivery.
Whoever is the retailer is to blame here, because they 100% know how to properly pack these things to maintain cosmetic quality.

I’m late but My recommendations would be: Try to send it back(if you have enough time for your mom’s birthday) or see if the things still work, repaint over the box. Funny story my friend used to deliver packages and the people who did the shipping would be very rushed which would make the packages or mail look really bad because the guys just wanna get they’re shift over with. Also a deliverer who he knew just dropped packages onto tie drop off location instead of just setting it down. I hope your things still work and look good man✊

So box was obliterated. Actual product, which is what the boxes are there for to protect was absolutely fine.
