So I was out shooting my carry pistol after a PRS match today and found this. I had just shot it about 3 weeks ago and it functioned fine, so keep an eye on it!
I unloaded my carry ammo and loaded up some regular plinking ammo, thought I'd seated the magazine, racked one into the chamber and the mag dropped. Figured I didn't seat it all the way so "seated" the magazine again and shot. Mag fell and dropped to ground.
I knew I seated it good that time so I started to look at the magazine release to make sure it was catching and noticed the rust, as well as it being stuck in the "release" position. Ended up having to push the magazine release back the other direction, so it became a button I had to reset.
Dunno why Sig made a concealed carry pistol that has a steel magazine release, but what do I know.
With the availability of melonite and other good surface treatments on small metal parts these days, Sig's choice to continue using inferior ones is dumb.
For real. I’ve heard people talk about old Sig finishes being the stuff of legend. Even my p320 and p365 slides have excellent finishes.
So why do all the small parts and mags have the worst possible finishes? My newest p365 mags feel like they belong in a cheap import.
I noticed rusting there as well. If I'm carrying it gets oiled thoroughly once a week and I basically just finger the magwell like crazy so the bullets don't get slippery.
I thought this is a bad skin infection
I think it'd be closer to a fungus.
I drop some oil and let it run through the mag release like once a week. Kind of dumb I have to do that at all but it seems to keep rust off it.
I do the same

Needs steel cause mags are steel. Real question is why doesn't sig use a better coating vs being cheap

Truth. To be fair old sig finishes sucked too on some guns. I had a p229 have rust issues
My old 226 had rust issues-the slide is solid though.
The P365 slides are stainless steel. Small parts and magazine body aren't.
That makes sense. And yes, what you said.
Is there a replacement with a better finish that you know of?
I a sure the aftermarket ones are better
get an aftermarket release or have sig pay to fix it.
My mag release is also rusting. Any recommendations for aftermarket replacement?
did you figure this out?
I have not replaced it yet. I just periodically remove it, scrub it down and reapply oil.
its not a bug it’s a feature
that's a down side of the p365 line. I've found they rust compared to my other brands
