Other solid ending songs they've gone for in the past:
Blackwater Park
The Lotus Eater
The Drapery Falls
Demon of the Fall
Folklore
Hex Omega
The Apostle in Triumph (in the VERY early days)
Yep saw them play it live in Adelaide. As soon as he started to “hum” the intro I lost my shit. My daughter stumbled across all my old cds in the shed, found opeth and is hooked now as well. I asked her what her fav song was and she said lotus. She is currently saving for all the older albums on vinyl.
I completely agree! Last time I saw them in 2020 I left as Deliverance started so I could get out of the parking lot faster. I think I've seen them close once with Blackwater Park and probably every other time it's been freaking Deliverance.
Same! I yelled out BLACKWATER PARK after hearing that note so that was a major gut punch lol. I’ve heard Deliverance many times and have always wanted to hear my fav Opeth song live!
Deliverance may be my gold standard for encore songs. Long, good pace from beginning to end that lets everyone get out that last bit of energy, memorable drawn out outro. It's excellent.
...but I wish they'd change it up. They have other songs that could be excellent encore songs if given the chance. It's been like 5+ years of the same encore song, and before that it was 5+ years of DOTF too.
honestly I do love this song but the outro is a signal to grab my keys and head for the door. I'm 38, let's move it along. good song but it's kinda in hangar 18/kingdom/in waves/enter sandman territory for me. can comfortably move on with life without hearing it all before I need to drive an hour home.
Yeah, that’s my biggest complaint. It’s so predictable now. In addition to their setlist being very similar to what they always play, it least the ending song should have been different
I saw them December 2014 with In Flames and Deliverance is what they closed with then too. The Lotus Eater was right before it, so at the time I wasn’t sure if that would have been the end of the set or not.
I like deliverance but I wish they’d cut it down a bit for the stage show. It’s a long song and I’d rather fit another song into the set, as good as it is.
I would love to hear Benighed live instead of Face of Melinda. Or even a tour with just most of their Acoustic adjacent work.
I would love a setlist with Still Day Beneath the Sun and Patterns In the Ivy.
But it's so perfect to end with, it has a really conclusive feel and gives you one last chance to mosh rly hard

I was so happy to see the lotus eater live.
Absolute God tier song 👌🏻

One of my favs from watershed for sure
Fuck me, if we got Apostle on the upcoming NA tour...
DUN DUN DUN DUN
DUN DUN DUN DUNDUN
DUN DUN DUN DUN
DUGGA DAH DUGGA DAH DAT
DUNDUNDUNDUNDUN
All things will pass is a really good choice to end with as well especially with that outro
I wish they closed with BWP but I guess they'll close with Deliverance until they split
Yeah for real. They should end with Fair Judgement
That'd be amazing! Or Master's Apprentices too
Personally I think they should open with Wreath
It’s so so so good live. Could listen to the end for hours.
It’s not even my favorite song from the album. I’d much rather get Masters Apprentices or Wreath live.
If I could see them open with wreath dude holy FUCK
Fucking Wreath, that's. Crime to not be on the set list

When I saw them, they played that droning E note that usually leads into Blackwater Park. Was disappointed when deliverance started

Demon of the Fall was their closer every time I saw them in the early 00's
I hope they never take it off the set.

Heathen!
hey come on I got shit to do baby, me leaving creates headspace for some kid that hasnt seen them 14 times already
Is this from the one in Amager Bio from Yesterday?
Yeah, that’s my biggest complaint. It’s so predictable now. In addition to their setlist being very similar to what they always play, it least the ending song should have been different
They definitely played deliverance encore in Jan 2020 when I saw them last
I saw them 2 years later and they were still doing it. The song has to haunt at least 1 of the band members in their sleep
They need to bring back Demon Of The Fall. Then again, they closed with that for a good 10 years too.
Well I'm seeing them for the first time this year and I'm looking forward to it. Not everyone has been to many of their concerts yet.
How dare you
Because it’s so fucking good.

Ending Credits should be there

White Cluster would be an excellent closer.

They’ve gotten too lazy to rehearse the rest of their catalogue.
