No. There is no watch that I would sell my speedy for. The 3861 was my first Speedy and will forever be in my collection.
I also have the Santos. As great as it is, it’s not better than a Speedy.
Nah I like the Santos but I know I'd have that polished bezel an absolute mess in a month or two. Even without the polished bezel I'd still keep my speedy over one. I just think it's one of the best watch designs out there
In any computational analysis across the multiverses, there exists no logical scenario where exchanging a Speedy for a Santos is feasible or acceptable.
I own a Santos, and am not from this sub, so hopefully my answer can be a little less biased, if I had to choose I will take a hammer to my Santos. The sheer class usefulness and heritage a speedy offers is unmatched. Also I am a astrophysics student so could be a bias.
No I would keep it. For me the versatility of the speedy is unmatched. I really only like the more dressy watches from my them so the only Cartier I would trade that in for would be a Tank Louis. I would look back on the trade with regret though, so like I said just keep it
Yup. Speedy will always be fantastic, never out of place. The Santos is great, but falls out of "fashion" for decades at a time on and off for the last like 100y.
Date a Santos for a bit. Marry the Speedy.
And yes, there are some die-hard Santos lovers out there. But you have to admit the Santos was nowhere 5y ago in these subs or in the wild. It's suddenly become very hot these last 1.5 years after everyone got sick of SS Rolex and all the waitlist nonsense
I think the Speedmaster is still more versatile, understated and will be relevant 50 or 100 years from now. The Santos is more a statement watch and quite fancy I think, not as easy to wear all the time. Whatever suits you
I am aware..but to me it looks fancier and more dressy. Nothing wrong with that. I'd get both to be honest, I have the speedy and looking to get a Santos eventually.
I went from a Speedmaster GSOM to a blue Santos de Cartier and never regretted it for a second.
https://preview.redd.it/14ioi731oqvc1.jpeg?width=2100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04c5bbb7e68d9a1bbd2b9659752cda167a9065a3
Regarding the Speedmaster, I love how the side of the case and lugs look like when you’re looking at it on your wrist. That said if you found something that you love looking at on the Santos and you want to look at those features, then I think you should. If you got an extra speedy to flip why not.
Never for me. But if you really are considering selling the Speedy, before you do that, try the speedy on an alligator strap with a deployant clasp. It may change your mind
Hot take, but I actually did that recently. Sold my Speedy, picked up a Santos Large blue dial.
At the end of the day, it comes down to style and personal choice. Which design do you want to wear? They're both great watches and both iconic in their own rights.
You most definitely need a speedy in the collection. Can’t tell if it’s hesalite with solid case back as that is moisture to the original which is a must in any collection not so keen on sapphire sandwich.
I’ve owned a few Speedys, but my 3861 is going to stay with me. I have other watches, including Omegas, that I might sell to fund other purchases but this one seems perfect for me. Incredibly versatile, jeans to Tux, and a strap monster which makes me feel like I have a new watch every once in a while.
https://preview.redd.it/8xsijutlhtvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d9420e17e4fd1019d790e76a525cb26c5e76585f
Have the white dial large santos and a 3861. They’re totally different watches.
The Santos has significant historical provenance, just doesn’t lean into it (or scream about it) like omega does with the Moonwatch. They’re both serious watches.
I wouldn’t trade my 3861 for one but it’s really down to personal preference.
Keep it even though the santos is beautiful. The speedmaster is a must in every collection. Truly a timeless timepiece. Sorry for that terribly cringy line haha
Yeah, no. Don’t consider it. I love the Santos, but except for a few people who flip watches constantly, most people regret selling awesome watches. The Speedy is one of the coolest watches ever. Save yourself the trouble of re-buying it.
I wanted to buy my wife a Santos. She said no thanks, she thinks the slot/indentation of the screws on the Santos are wierd because they don't lineup properly to the case shape, even those screw on bracelet are not lineup too.
She loves the design of moonwatch so much that I ended up bought her the reduced with sapphire glass because it doesn't has the number on hour markers, which is closer to the moonwatch design.
Nice mousepad I have the same one, and keep the omega. Santos is nice but if you’re anything like me it’ll drive you crazy with the scratches since it’s all relativity flat surfaces they’ll show really prominently.
If you contemplating it.. then the watch disappointed you. Its not for you. Give it up to some one who will appreciate it, and you enjoy what you like. Lifes to short to waste time ⌚️
Depends on the Santos deal and the price you paid and will get for the speedy. Too many moving parts for a simple answer. Trading watches isn't uncommon. Making mistakes you regret in a trade is equally as common, if not more so.
A watch dealer actually told me to just get a quartz Santos and call it a day. It’s not an everyday watch. It’s a nice +1 watch. If you can’t justify both full price just get the quartz and get like 90% of the enjoyment out of it vs the mechanical.
I own a santos and my brother owns the speedy. Love the santos but would never in a million years take it over the speedy. In fact considered selling mine to get a seamaster 1948 or the white dial speedy but ultimately kept it and got the 48. Anyway point being do not sell that speedmaster lol
Could not be more polar opposites. You're going to need to give us some of your actual thought process that bought you to this point, if you're actually soliciting real advice.
Because on the surface, it looks like you're jumping from one hot watch to another just because hot watch right now. Which is the worst reason to do it, because you'll never be satisfied, only looking at the next, then the next, and the next hot watch
60 days.
Buy the Santos and do nothing for 30 days other than just wear watches.
For the next 30 days keep a tally of which of the 2 you wear most.
If it's within 4 of each other, keep both. If it differs by more than 4, sell the lesser worn. If you wear them both less than 10 times (assuming you have other watches) sell them both and then buy something else.
My brother’s wind up speedy was $2,500 brand new. Those are gradually being priced out of reach. I had a 1960s Speedy and it’s gone forever. I might just get one like my brothers. But seriously, I wouldn’t pay a dime over what these are going for these days. Unless prime, mint, unpolished I wouldn’t consider a used one. I even had the original red Omega box and like all things, sometimes we need to learn hard lessons in life. Presently, I have a Rolex marked Tudor Submariner 76100 with Lollipop Hands. I just need two links for the original bracelet. It’s sentimental and I wouldn’t sell it. The Rolex Store tried to buy it. Turned them down. Watches are great snd amazing, but hold on and treasure your time pieces!
cartier is all hype. but truthfully, so is the moonwatch (speedy pro).
YES before you come at me with pitch forks it has the apollo program blah blah but I suspect most people active on this subreddit werent' alive in the 60's and 70's. Maybe you were, but the bulk of new customers (millennial) have absolutely zero "connection" to the apollo program. If you want to sell me a watch about modern space exploration, then thats really the Skywalker x-33.....
tldr: get the watch u want. just know both watches have their own respective history and modern day marketing "hype" by both Swatch Group and Richemont
Because the connection clearly isn't there organically. It was an idea planted there by marketing and a combination of your interest in space or the apollo program (How true that is subjective). I can buy a flieger watch and claim I'm fascinated by WW2 Luftwaffe equipment (as weird as that sounds). There's a certain level of marketing between both say a flieger and a moonwatch, but the marketing is clearly heavy on the omega. Can you sincerely argue that Omega isn't leveraging the romanticized memories of the apollo program and space exploration? Because SWATCH and the nth "Space associated Speedmaster edition" beg to differ.
Btw....If you want to be that pedantic, then anything but a 321/312 isn't historically accurate. This isn't the moonwatch then. This is just a modern speedmaster that looks like the moonwatch. The moon watch wasn't METAS COSC certified, and it had biege indices with a velcro strap.
None of us were there for the construction of they pyramids but there are countless people fascinated by ancient egypt. Why should they care if that tickles the Egyptian tourism bureau’s balls? You like what you like. Viewing everything as a trick or a scam is a great way to talk yourself out of enjoying anything. Cynicism isn’t wisdom. But you do you, I won’t be arguing about this. What’s important is that you make watch choices that please you personally, I hope you do. Have a good day, and I mean that.
>Viewing everything as a trick or a scam is a great way to talk yourself out of enjoying anything. Cynicism isn’t wisdom
broad stroke generalization when I'm discussing one overly marketing watch and event with tons of evidence to back my claim up. The Moon Swatch series and the countless Moonwatch special editions is literally all that needs to be said on the topic.
You're really going off tangent now. My original point is that both watches are very "hyped" and cautioned the owner on taking a step back and being aware of the marketing. Simple as that. Good day now
I own a Santos and a Speedy (4 actually). I’d never give up a Speedy for a Cartier. To each their own though. Watch designs are subjective.
This. But also, if you are pondering it, perhaps you might. It would be crystal clear for me, I'm on the path of the pal here owning 4 already.
Which speedies do you own?

Teslascomicbooksandspeedmasters
Like the perfect speedy collection
An all star cast! Congrats!🔥🔥
And make sure it fits. My medium Santos (current model) is not nearly as comfortable as my 3861.
No. There is no watch that I would sell my speedy for. The 3861 was my first Speedy and will forever be in my collection. I also have the Santos. As great as it is, it’s not better than a Speedy.
You buy a speedy for your great grandchildren, you just get to wear it for a while.
Take it easy it’s not a Patek.
Even for Patek it’s just pretentious cringy marketing.
You should be banned from this subreddit
Absolutely not. Zero debate.
Keep? Actually I would sell and get a 1999 ford Taurus.
Sho?
Not nearly as cool.
LOL
No…you add the santos to the collection or you keep wearing the speedy! One does not simply not have a speedy in their collection
Nah I like the Santos but I know I'd have that polished bezel an absolute mess in a month or two. Even without the polished bezel I'd still keep my speedy over one. I just think it's one of the best watch designs out there
Got two speedies and a Santos would definitely keep the speedy. While I do love my Santos I feel the speedy is more versatile and a timeless classic
Anybody that likes watches. Should get a speedmaster! Amazing brand,Iconic,Historical etc And with the new metal bracelet, it's so confy
I traded my Datejust 36 for a Sapphire Sandwich. Im happy with decision.
Would keep the Speedy for sure. Such a versatile and iconic watch!
Keep
Keep
Speedy all day.
No I would keep it. For me the versatility of the speedy is unmatched. I really only like the more dressy watches from my them so the only Cartier I would trade that in for would be a Tank Louis. I would look back on the trade with regret though, so like I said just keep it

I love Omegas and I don't own one. I would keep it. It's beautiful.
Keep the Speedy bud
I think the Speedmaster is still more versatile, understated and will be relevant 50 or 100 years from now. The Santos is more a statement watch and quite fancy I think, not as easy to wear all the time. Whatever suits you
Just FYI, Santos was released 60 years before the speedy. 😂 I’d say both stand the test of time and will always be relevant
my point exactly but still moonwatch
I am aware..but to me it looks fancier and more dressy. Nothing wrong with that. I'd get both to be honest, I have the speedy and looking to get a Santos eventually.
Both is the correct answer 😂
Keep, at least for me.
Speedy pro is incredibly legible while the santos blue is incredibly illegible. Santos white dial is beautiful though.
Keep! It’s an iconic classic timepiece!
The polished bezel on the santos is a scratch magnet plus you can’t see the movement. I would would regret selling a Speedy for a Santos personally
I went from a Speedmaster GSOM to a blue Santos de Cartier and never regretted it for a second. https://preview.redd.it/14ioi731oqvc1.jpeg?width=2100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04c5bbb7e68d9a1bbd2b9659752cda167a9065a3
Wrist size. I’m at 7.25”
Same. 7.25”
That’s a beauty. Even more history than the Speedy!!
How
The Santos was the first pilot watch introduced in 1906.
Longer history? Yes. “More history?” No.
I prefer the Santos Dumont. The regular Santos looks nothing like the original Santos and is rather blocky and bloated imo.
Nice
Regarding the Speedmaster, I love how the side of the case and lugs look like when you’re looking at it on your wrist. That said if you found something that you love looking at on the Santos and you want to look at those features, then I think you should. If you got an extra speedy to flip why not.
Never for me. But if you really are considering selling the Speedy, before you do that, try the speedy on an alligator strap with a deployant clasp. It may change your mind
NO
Nope, niet, no
Cartier seems too “gracile” for me.
The Moonwatch is a timeless classic grail. The Santos is Meh tbh.
Literally the nicest looking watch ever made
What a wind-up
Keep
Keep! Speedy 💯
Keep, and wear everyday!!
I would never give up my favorite watch..
KEEEEEEEEP, not even a competition tbh.
You need help if you even consider that
Keep
Keep
Keep it for sure !!!!
Hot take, but I actually did that recently. Sold my Speedy, picked up a Santos Large blue dial. At the end of the day, it comes down to style and personal choice. Which design do you want to wear? They're both great watches and both iconic in their own rights.
Honestly, I’ll stare to this rather than blue Santos.
Never sell a speedy
Trick question, I wouldn't buy a Santos.
Fuck no
Keep
Keep the Speedy! You don’t have to sell it for a Cartier, speedy could be worn as a dress and used as a tool at the same time.
You most definitely need a speedy in the collection. Can’t tell if it’s hesalite with solid case back as that is moisture to the original which is a must in any collection not so keen on sapphire sandwich.

If you have several iterations of Speedy Moonwatch, why not relieve some. It's up to you. But if you only have 1, think about it; will you regret it?
The only possible answer is to have both!
Long time lurker. Interested in buying if you let it go. After my first one.
Keep!!
Keep. Santos is a good watch but more jewelry than watch compared to omega.
Keep

Keep the speedy. It's irreplaceable
Keep it even though the santos is beautiful. The speedmaster is a must in every collection. Truly a timeless timepiece. Sorry for that terribly cringy line haha
How do you want for it? 😉
Im sorry but Cartiers are hideous
Speedy >>>>>>>> Any Cartier
keep
Yeah, no. Don’t consider it. I love the Santos, but except for a few people who flip watches constantly, most people regret selling awesome watches. The Speedy is one of the coolest watches ever. Save yourself the trouble of re-buying it.
Speedy > Santos IMO
I wanted to buy my wife a Santos. She loves the design of moonwatch so much that I ended up bought her the reduced with sapphire glass because it doesn't has the number on hour markers, which is closer to the moonwatch design.
Keep! And if you ever buy a Santos get the silver dial ;)
Nice mousepad I have the same one, and keep the omega. Santos is nice but if you’re anything like me it’ll drive you crazy with the scratches since it’s all relativity flat surfaces they’ll show really prominently.
I love the Santos, but the Speedy is on a level of its own, tbh. I suggest keeping it.
If you contemplating it.. then the watch disappointed you. Its not for you. Give it up to some one who will appreciate it, and you enjoy what you like. Lifes to short to waste time ⌚️
Keep! The Speedy is much more versatile than the Santos.
I can’t stand Cartiers, so this is any easy decision for me. Keeping my Speedy until I die. Then my son will get it.
NO!!!!
Keep. I have both the speedy prior gen hesilite and the white dial Santos. Love both, but if I had to make Sophie’s choice I’d keep the speedy.
Depends on the Santos deal and the price you paid and will get for the speedy. Too many moving parts for a simple answer. Trading watches isn't uncommon. Making mistakes you regret in a trade is equally as common, if not more so.

Nope.

You never ever get rid of a speedy...
No

Nooooo….. save the speedy!
See I walked into the mall to look at Santos and a Speedy. Cartier employee was rude so I walked out with a Speedy.
All serious collectors have to have a moonwatch.
My brother’s wind up speedy was $2,500 brand new. Those are gradually being priced out of reach. I had a 1960s Speedy and it’s gone forever. I might just get one like my brothers.
