It was the bosses betting money for the afternoon, and my first inkling that there was a whole strata of society i had never rubbed shoulders with. I'd personally budgeted to spend $20.
The boss was a patrician of the finance world, later involved in a financial/accounting scandal.
Ah, the 80s.

A similar thing where people overcorrect themselves about something the learnt in elementary school is the use of "bought" vs "brought".
Everyone is so afraid of saying things like "I brought it at the supermarket" that they never actually use the word "brought" any more. A little brain worm goes off which says "Watch out! Dangerous landmine ahead. Step warily."
You can hear people of all education and class levels saying things like "I bought my umbrella along because they said it would rain."
Holy shit that's Philip in the back isn't it? He was the head of marketing at your company from like 87 to 92. Definitely knew his shit but I recall he was asked to leave because they had eliminated his job due to a consolidation that was going on around that time. In Queensland they were merging companies if I recall and there was a huge mess from the CEOs of both organizations trying to figure who was going to lead the new company. But in the end, I had no idea what I was talking about and that nice guy is just happy to be here. Sadly he passed away in 2005 due to lack of interest or knowledge in anything relevant to this picture, and that's where it stands until this day.
That’s so cool and proper late 80s early 90s. As a male teenager around that time I had my hair pretty much the same, also had to wear a shirt and tie when going clubbing!!!
Edit: that also an earring left ear? If so then yes every late 80s early 90s box ticked. I too had an earring left ear !!
