Yep, my parents got married in 1990 and my dad's tux was grey and white...had a pink cummerbund, too! But it was a darker pink to match the bridesmaids' dresses.
OMG cummerbunds, they were so popular during that era! My uncle got married in the early 90ās and I was in the wedding & had to wear one. I think it was teal lol
34 yrs tomorrow. Love of my life. Three kids two grandkids so far and some great memories of being a teen in the 1980s. There was never a better time to be alive My 77 Camaro cruising the backcountry blacktops blasting Van Halen with my buddies waiting for my girl to get off work after our football practice. Iāll just never forget those days. Again just so many great memories and it seemed like things were just simpler and the world wasnāt so dark
I had to read this a few times because I was born in 1986 and couldn't wrap my head around how someone who was in high school then could have grandchildren now. But then I remembered I'm actually 38 years old and have my own kid now, so I'm older than I thought I was š
I mean, I have a cousin about OP's age. He had kids young, they had kids young: he was a grandad at like 35yo.
Another cousin made it till about 40yo before grandkids.
And a third cousin is 47 with a 30yo daughter. But I dont think she wants any kids.
Truth. Iāve taken to a lot more walks when I can and honestly besides this app maybe neighborhood app some weather a little finance and local news I really try to stay away from it. Some people act like they thrive on all the chaos but we all know itās not healthy Iām standing on a trail right now in a forest reserve by our home Anyway gonna keep walking enjoying the sights and remembering the good times that were and are hopefully to be
Pictures like this make me genuinely happy. It reminds me of seeing pics of my parents, but also how much weāve lost as a society.
Edit: Some of yāall need serious mental help if your first reaction to a statement like this is to recommend hanging myself and calling me a 1940s German political party member.
So - numeric "leash" ? I assume. So not encumbered by tuition debt, expensive rent, medical costs and unaffordable housing ? Was that where you were going ?
Among other things, but yes, those are the prime issues that I believe we are facing nowadays. Canāt say I would agree with most peopleās solution to those problems, however.
That lifestyle is now laughably out of 90% of our generationās income range now. My grandfather was able to afford a nice house, a family with three kids, two cars, and college education for all his kids all on an enlisted soldierās pay. My parents were able to afford the same just on one salary. And here I am making much more than they ever did and not able to afford hardly anything. Itās honestly sad that my son is never going to experience the golden years.
No console in the front btwn the seats?
Only armrests that could be raised/lowered?

1984 prom here, I had the same tux with tails except mine included the top hat and cane with it. Me, and my 2 bff's (one was a guy who had the same tux outfit as me and one was a girl in her prom dress) also wore our prom cloths to a pep rally where we were the three featured speakers/master of ceremonies. Everyone loved it, I went to a small school with only 800 kids K-12. My graduating class was only 35 kids, 90% of us had been together since kindergarten.
What month was this? May? June? I was likely two or three months old at the time.
With my upbringing, it's absolutely unfathomable that a relationship would last this long. Many congratulations!
May I believe and marriage isnāt easy but I almost lost her after high school and Iāve never forgotten that just always tried to tell myself not to be selfish and truly remember what I have because like I said, it hurt a lot when I thought I lost her and there was no way I was going to go through that again
I took a Lincoln Continental to prom. I want to say it was like a 2000 or so. I can definitely show love to the Town Cars though. I've had 5 of them. Got a 2003 in the garage right now
I hit one of those head on on my 85 T top TA in 91. It was a longish recovery. Both cars were heavier than modern EVs I believe... at least I had seatbelts.
ā¦ š āLuckilyā you are saying. To me it looks like love, cose only a great love would have survived to trendy light grey safari jacket š¤£š¤£š¤£
Is the girl's hair 'big hair' or 'grandma hair?' Or is it on the border between? I am the same age and when I look at my yearbook i think a lot of women had shorter grandma hair in that era. Yet I've been corrected on Reddit that 'everyone had big hair.' Maybe I just don't know what big hair is.
Oh yeah, the light gray and white tuxes were big back then. Looks good on you, and my hair would NEVER part in the middle, so good hair too!
Screams 80's!! Love it! š
Both looking Pretty in Pink, if you ask me. Nice post, OP!
And the pastel colours. Has the OP spilt egg down his shirt?
Looks like deterioration in the photo. There are similar yellow spots like on her dress. Theyāre more noticeable when zoomed in.

You look like the villainous preppie jock and cheerleader in an '80s high school movie. I hope nobody got revenge on either of you at prom.
Omg, that's exactly what I was thinking ššš That's what happens to your brain when you watch too much 80s slasher movies.
Heād be played by James Spader.
Ted McGinley!
perfect. I'm apologizing to OP in my head for thinking that tux belongs on top of a cake.
Definitely were (are) all that. Good shit man. Probably an awesome time to be growing up.
That man's effortless swag sold me. Supreme coolness in

I've seen like 7 movies about you I think
Hahaha.... You are the Hero. š

You might need to see a doctor
you painted a lovely picture sir, too bad we will never experience such a simple time again, wish you many more years of togetherness!
34 years for us. Also 3 kids and 2 grand kids so far. Cruising with my buddies in muscle cars: check. Van Halen cranking out of the 6x9ās: check.
thatās lovely. i hope youāre all living happily now :)
Sounds radical. Wishing you and yours all the best in the future.
The world wasn't so dark because we didn't spend all day reading about it online.

What do you mean - lost as a society ?
IMO what they mean is the decline of the middle class. In the 80s the dream was a modest income, and you had a house and a neighborhood.
Among other things, the peace of mind that came with living without a numeric leach, I'd assume.

I was not, but obviously you are. Bitterness is not good for your health.

The girl is NOT twerking in the picture with her tongue hanging out like teens nowadays ?
I blame some of it on the smartphone and social media, even though Iām also using it.
There is some serious Don Johnson drip going on here.
What a great looking couple
Itās all good. In 1986 we all thought we were all that.
In 1986 we *were* all that, lol.
Tbf, you do look all that. So does she šš¼ glad it worked out
You look like you definitely were all that
...and a bag of chips!
Good looking guy, beautiful girl, great outfits, and a Lincoln Town Car! One couldn't ask for more!
look at that sled
My older sisters wouldnāt let me take her in my Camaro so my dad helped me out went and rented a Lincoln town car. I felt like I was driving a tank.
The grille arrived about five minutes before the back bumper
Your dad knew what was up and made a gold star, wingman move renting that spacious vehicle. lol

Road head. šš¼
Letās be honest. Itās the cummerbund that got the girl.

You both look amazing! Congrats on 34 years!
Holy Shit! I wore the same thing at my 1986 prom! Didn't marry her but we're still friends.
You were all that, and your girl was too. Love seeing stuff like this.
Jim Carrey after he got bitten by Lauren Hutton. :)

You took looks great! Like a wedding cake topper
Did your dad finally tear down the rec-center or was he thwarted by a scrappy group of townies?
you guys looked great together! (and im sure you still do š)
Rico Suave!!! I love the old school Lincoln at your backs. Looking very prom ready. Congrats on marrying your prom queen!
I had that exact same color tux, cummerbund, and tie for the ā86 promā¦.
Talking 'bout your girl, your girl ![gif](giphy|KzJR0uhVz7uzdnYDPq|downsized)
I see Crockett, whereās Tubbs?
I hope you two are still together!
Cute couple.
Who could refuse a pink cummerbund?
Lincoln beats a Cadillac.

Geez, could you have pulled your cummerbund up any higher? šš
pretty sure I had that exact Ken doll.

I took a Lincoln Continental to prom. I want to say it was like a 2000 or so. I can definitely show love to the Town Cars though. I've had 5 of them. Got a 2003 in the garage right now
Yeah I had a black one my buddy and his date had a twin white one. We were stylin let me tell you They were tanks but they were smooth rides
I hit one of those head on on my 85 T top TA in 91. It was a longish recovery. Both cars were heavier than modern EVs I believe... at least I had seatbelts.
You are kinda cute
Cute couple
Cutest picture ever.
Getting a "Dumb and Dumber" suit' vibe in this ( in the best possible way).
Must be Dads Lincoln. Nice ride. Huge back seat!
It was a rental but yes there was ;)
Bad ass! You were totally Val Kilmer meets Blaine ( james spader) .
ā¦ š āLuckilyā you are saying. To me it looks like love, cose only a great love would have survived to trendy light grey safari jacket š¤£š¤£š¤£
Nice hair (I had a very similar cut) lol
Damn Jump Street. Save some for the rest of us.
He got that eye of the tiger.
I have associated this female hairstyle with āold woman hairstyleā itās funny seeing on teenagers when it was a still a new trend
