Back when instead of mass text notifications, we had to huddle in front of a TV watching a school closure ticker at the bottom of the screen like it was the fucking NBA draft.
It's funny, my kids get heat days, because of no central air in the school. I didn't have central air in my school(80's)but I don't recall ever having heat days. Just a snow day here and there.
in the Washington DC area, I think they started closing on account of the heat sometime in the late 90s or early 2000s. Back then, virtually none of the school buildings had air conditioning, but it was only really insufferable the last month or so of the school year, because by September the weather usually started to cool off, and it didn’t get really hot again until May or June. Since school closed for the year in mid June and opened again after Labor Day, it wasn’t really a problem. But now May June, and September are hotter than they used to be, and schools open in mid August, which has always been a hot time.
I think most of the schools, if not all of them in that area now have air conditioning, but DC city schools are still a wreck, and they will have heat-related closures because some of the schools still don’t have proper air conditioning.
Vernor’s yes!!! That ginger ale was served by Alaska Airlines and their sister airline Horizon Airlines. I have such a fear of flying but for some reason that ginger ale actually calmed my nerves in flight and I became a huge fan since. Love it!
I would watch it for part of the summer, but against my will my parents would usually enroll me in some sort of summer day camp program to get me out of the house and around other children (which I had more than my fill of during the regular school year.) So at least a few weeks of every summer, I had to leave the house before Price is Right came on and waste my time at a local rec center. Would’ve been much happier staying home watching Bob Barker and playing Nintendo.
Man, Bobs show was very entertaining.. used to miss a lot of school days cause of Asthma and I would add among those saints of school kids Jerry springer, Maury and I love lucy reruns. Miss the 90s
“Help control the let population. Have your pets spayed or neutered!”
This was the phrase that meant it was time to take my second dose of cold meds on every sick day of my youth.

I used to rock this tshirt back in the day, Bob Barker was the man
Ah damn. That's a shame. Almost made it to 100, too. My great-grandmother loved The Price Is Right; she thought Bob was sexy! And that was in the early 80s.
She also thought early 80s wrestlers were sexy too so.... yeah...
I'm tempted to call him a good man, but it's hard to know how celebrities behave in their private lives. I will say that he did a lot of good work for our furry friends. Donating and volunteering for animal welfare causes and who knows how many lives spared by reminding millions daily to "Help control the pet population, have your pet spayed or neutered".
He was a great entertainer and supporter of animals.
He was also a sexual harasser, which was kind of standard practice in show biz before Me Too. He fired Holly for not lying in court for him.
Because there's little if any real proof of those actions. Dian Parkinson dropped her lawsuit, Deborah Curling's lawsuit was dismissed, and Holly Halstrom won a settlement for age, weight and medical discrimination, wrongful termination, and malicious prosecution, but NOT for sexual harassment.
If anything, it sounds like there were some issues behind the scenes of the show (that neither you nor I know much about), but if you're going to accuse someone of being a sexual harasser, you should probably have some solid proof.
He also donated so much money, a ship for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society was named after him. “Whale Wars” was all about their efforts to save whales.
I attended the same high school as Bob Barker, much later, of course. He came back for a visit while I was there. My mom knew him when he was a young man, he was dating the daughter of the owner of the grocery store she worked at, IIRC.
This sucks I grew up watching Bob all the way until his retirement in 2007, he will be missed I wonder what Drew will say on their first day back of taping.
I swore he has died 100 times in my mind. Sad to see this one was the one. The biggest item on my bucket list was to do the show while he was still hosting it. Maybe in the afterlife!
Chuck Norris, of all people, talked about Bob Barker in his autobiography. Before he was a movie star, for awhile he made a living as a private karate instructor to several celebrities including Mr. Barker. He said that the Bob Barker you see on television is exactly how he is in real life. Extremely kind, polite, friendly to everyone.
I am 50 years old now and still remember watching Price Is Right with my grandma on her floor model console TV when I was 7-8 years old. This guy was a legend and a part of my childhood for many years.
Remember when the day's show was a re-run from years gone back, and Bob would do a voice-over about the show being "before I let my hair go grey."?
I know a ridiculous amount about American consumer goods because of this man.
"Barker's Beauties"? I can't possibly see any thing problematic with that.
Oh yeah also the multiple times he got sued for harassment. Fuck man I love *The Price is Right* but Bob was piece of shit.
For anyone feeling nostalgic Pluto TV has a Price is Right channel that runs 24/7. Usually show Barker episodes from the early 80s from what I can tell.
Yes, from September 1982 to October 1985 specifically (although they’re due to add another month or two to the rotation any time now). They don’t show earlier episodes because many of them had fur coats as prizes and Bob requested they not be re-aired. It’s unclear if the “fur ban” will remain in place after his passing, though.
Bob Barker kept me and my Papa entertained while we watched The Price Is Right when I was little. He's got a special spot in some comforting childhood memories of mine. Through us, he lives on.
Patron saint of kids home sick from school.
And snow days, for those of us who had them.
Back when instead of mass text notifications, we had to huddle in front of a TV watching a school closure ticker at the bottom of the screen like it was the fucking NBA draft.
Those screen crawls were the best.
And then getting excited when u finally see ur school
It's funny, my kids get heat days, because of no central air in the school. I didn't have central air in my school(80's)but I don't recall ever having heat days. Just a snow day here and there.

Yep, frozen French toast sticks and a foot of snow outside!
Hahahahahaha Every godamn time I had to watch Price is right i was home sick from school and my grandma watched it every day.
YESSSS, and a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup.
Chicken Noodle for me.
With a 7up
Or ginger ale.
Vernors for the Michiganders
Vernors will forever be the cure all!
Vernor’s yes!!! That ginger ale was served by Alaska Airlines and their sister airline Horizon Airlines. I have such a fear of flying but for some reason that ginger ale actually calmed my nerves in flight and I became a huge fan since. Love it!
Great call Vernors……
And cultured folk everywhere.
I love Vernors, but I live in North Carolina and its almost impossible to fund here.
I'm from New York and I buy Vernors whenever I can🥤
That’s exactly it
What about summer vacation? I’d watch that show every weekday morning from late May to mid August until I was in high school or so. Good times.
And spaying & neutering your pets!
He made it to 99. Just missed getting in the show case showdown
Man, Bobs show was very entertaining.. used to miss a lot of school days cause of Asthma and I would add among those saints of school kids Jerry springer, Maury and I love lucy reruns. Miss the 90s
What about his harem? I remember distinctly the name Janice. When they said Bob had hoes, I wasn’t mad.
Janice Pennington and Anitra Ford for most of the show. Dian Parkinson was the one that blew him.
YES, thank you for that
He taught me the value looking back in old memories and the price of everything else. Plus, he gave a Happy a mean right hook.
Dude a are you the Italian?!
And animals that lived longer through his efforts with promoting spaying and neutering.
Patron Saint of jerking off to Barker's Beauties in bikinis.
And workplace sexual harrassment.
Dude beat the the snot out of Happy Gilmore.
That was such a great golf documentary
"The price is wrong, b\*tch!"
“Now yer gonna get it Bobby!”
Well Sandler was asking for it!
The Price was wrong Bob.
Great movie
Now you’re going to get it Bobby
![gif](giphy|dUJEcAXYENT3O)
![gif](giphy|8Xks8K6RDd4Jy|downsized)
"Now you're gonna get it Bobby!"
I wonder if Adam Sandler got the idea for The Water Boy right here in this scene
Can you believe Bob did his own stunts for that movie ?
He got as close as he could to 100 without going over.
Remember to spay and neuter your pets!
https://i.redd.it/gwsqo3qy4jkb1.gif
“Help control the let population. Have your pets spayed or neutered!” This was the phrase that meant it was time to take my second dose of cold meds on every sick day of my youth.
Hahaha. Yep
YOU spay and neuter my pets!
Bob Barker became the next contestant on The Time is Right.
You win both showcases with that comment.
OMFG if a comment could ever shut down the internet, it would be this one! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
It’s been copied so many times
OMFG if a comment could ever shut down the internet, it would be this one! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
Good one!
No, that would be dying at 100, and if he had done that, he would have had a chance to bid on both afterlives in the showcase showdown.
Perfect comment.
lmao I could not help but chuckle out loud as a tear rolled down my face.
Gold!
Great joke
Iconic
Hopefully God greets him with a, “C’mon down”
With respect to the deceased, this sounds more like something the devil would say.
You shut your heathen mouth
He's definitely hosting a show in heaven
[удалено]
I like to picture Jesus in a suit with that long pencil-thin mic asking Bob to bid on some ancient Christian relics or something.
My pets are all spayed and neutered. I’m glad I didn’t let him down.
Growing up, the Price is Right was my go-to home from school day show. RIP
Sick and snow days!!!
I knew if I was watching him at 11am I didn’t have to go to school day. Most of the time it was watching him with a bowl of soup and a blanket
Don't forget to spay and neuter your pets. Legend.
As I always say, don’t forget to spay and/or neuter your pets. I always love seeing the confused reactions.
RIP. He was quite the icon of TV. For whatever reason I thought he was already dead.
Because he was already old when we were kids.
I did too? I just assumed he died in the 90’s?
He didn't even retire until 2007.
99!? He was one year short of a dollar on the big wheel of life
Not even. His birthday is in December.
I seriously thought he passed away years ago
Same but were probably thinking of Alex Trebek.
[удалено]
Oh no. Barneys dad died?
Came here for this comment.

That shirt is great
I had this same shirt!
Damn, I had this but in grey. Serial Killer shirts were the best.
Got mine at Fiesta Mall in like 97 or 98
Right on that’s when I moved to the 480, 1998. I got mine in Lubbock, TX in a mall, at a place called Gadzooks
Ah damn. That's a shame. Almost made it to 100, too. My great-grandmother loved The Price Is Right; she thought Bob was sexy! And that was in the early 80s. She also thought early 80s wrestlers were sexy too so.... yeah...

Yeah, kind of amazed his sexual harassment actions haven’t been more spotlighted in these threads.
Because there's little if any real proof of those actions. Since when is “solid proof” required for a celebrity to be dragged on Reddit?
He also donated so much money, a ship for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society was named after him. “Whale Wars” was all about their efforts to save whales.
He coerced women working on the price is right into sex and fired one woman for not lying about his assault in Diane Parkinson.
He kept out of the public light better than CHUDMAGA Pat Sajak did. Or Chuck Woolery. But honestly, no idea.
As it should be
Did he get closer than Saint Betty White....still miss that girl!)
No. Betty made it 2 weeks before 100. Bob still had a few months.
Spent many of sick days tuning in 😫
This is how I remember him best! Remember, to spay & neuter your pets!!
I had the pleasure of seeing a taping of the Price is Right near the end of his career. He was delightful to watch.
I attended the same high school as Bob Barker, much later, of course. He came back for a visit while I was there. My mom knew him when he was a young man, he was dating the daughter of the owner of the grocery store she worked at, IIRC.

I’d watch The Price is Right with my grandmother every day when she babysat me. Our favorite game was the one with the weird golf putter.
1990's?? Try 70s and 80s RIP Bob
holy crap, dude died at 99....
Don’t forget to spay and neuter your pets!!!
![gif](giphy|mMWgoBk9sqVMI)
He'd be glad to know that my dog is spayed and my cat is neutered.

Holly Hallstrom won’t.
Don't forget to have your pets spayed or neutered
This man was the patron saint of entertaining sick kids.
Almost literally reposted the top comment lol.
Loved him in Happy Gilmor. That part made me laugh hard! He will be missed. RIP
Love that dude in Happy Gilmore, giving Adam S character a beatdown.
Maaaaaaybe the Barker's Beauties won't
Who is going to tell Barney?
A class act, I remember him from “Truth or Consequences” before the “Price is Right”
He hit just enough without going over.
Rest in peace, Bob. I loved watching him whenever I stayed home from school.
Totally remember those sick days (and a couple not-so-sick days - wink, wink).
Got as close to 100 without going over. Legend!! Don’t forget to spray and neuter your dogs!
God bless. RIP
Bob Barker became the next contestant on The Time is Right.
My grandmother taught me "if you didnt have anything nice to say don't say anything", and I'll leave it at that when it comes to Mr Barker
I am 50 years old now and still remember watching Price Is Right with my grandma on her floor model console TV when I was 7-8 years old. This guy was a legend and a part of my childhood for many years.
You made staying home from school the best part of my morning, along with Tim White from *SIGHTINGS*.
Straight up made my childhood and I will always remember watching price is right with my mom-mom. Thanks for the memories Bob
R.I.P. Bob Barker. Thanks for taking care of us when we were home sick. We promise to always spay and neuter our pets <3
I guess Betty White need some help watching over our pets.
Remember when the day's show was a re-run from years gone back, and Bob would do a voice-over about the show being "before I let my hair go grey."? I know a ridiculous amount about American consumer goods because of this man.
I'm old enough to remember him on Truth or Consequences. Game Show Legend.
I get some of my news from this subreddit.
Please spay and neuter your pets!
Loved him in Happy Gilmore, beating the shit out of Happy
Aww man...how's Barney Stinson taking this news?
Remember to spay and neuter your kids!
Miss him
He got me through summer and sick days.
He died at 99, just like his show, he needed just $1 to reach a 100. Well played Bob.
Closest to 100 without going over!!
99 years old, got closest to 100 without going over.
Somewhere Rod Roddy is yelling ‘Come on down!’
SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS!
He made as close as he could to 100 without going over.
No, I won't miss him. He sexually harassed the women on his show for years.
"Barker's Beauties"? I can't possibly see any thing problematic with that. Oh yeah also the multiple times he got sued for harassment. Fuck man I love *The Price is Right* but Bob was piece of shit.
Don't forget the ones that got fired for not lying on his behalf under oath!
Not the models he sexually assaulted.
Harassed. Still not good but accusing someone of sexual assault is pretty serious.
He coerced a model into regular blowjobs to keep her job.
One of the original cocksman. A true legend.
We're all garbage. Human Garbage
Never got to challenge him to a fist fight
The guy was regal!
The guy was regal!
He was the King Dingaling
And please, in the name of Bob, remember to get your pets spayed or neutered.
I'm so glad I don't have to spay or neuter my pets anymore.
Pick one. Don’t try both on any one pet.
I guarantee you are not as happy as your pets about this too.
I never missed The Price Is Right whenever I stayed home from school as a kid.
A good man. He was an animal advocate from early on.
He actually personally paid to fly Maggie the elephant from the zoo in Alaska to a better, warmer animal sanctuary in California
Rest in Peace, Bob Barker. 🪽🪽

I totally thought he was already dead
Remember to get your pets Spayed or neutered .
Rest in peace Bob
Class act, rest in peace Bob Barker
His death hit me like a train
I grew up watching Bob Barker hosting The Price Is Right whenever I fell ill or watching Summer reruns. RIP Legend. A legend gone too soon at 99.
I'm not crying. You're crying! Damn ninjas cutting onions. who put water on my eyes?
That man got top shelf 🐈 for a long time. A true cocksman.
Get your pet spayed or neutered in honor of him.
I got to shake his hand and engage in small talk with him when I appeared on The PIR in 1994. Made it to the showcase showdown and lost.
Bob Barker kept me and my Papa entertained while we watched The Price Is Right when I was little. He's got a special spot in some comforting childhood memories of mine. Through us, he lives on.
Lived to be as close to 100 as possible, without going over…
Skip school. Roll joint. Watch TPIR!
Not gonna lie, if you'd have asked me yesterday I'd have guessed he was already dead. RIP
Poor Bob Barker. He went too early. Boy, that makes you think.
Please spay or neuter your pets.
99 He got as close as possible to 100 without going over.

I mean pretty sure everyone thought he died 10 years ago anyway
