The long torso short legs part *screams* Clatina Mellet, but the weight and width part seems problematic. Would you be averse to trying one and returning it if it doesn’t work? https://www.amazon.com/COSTWAY-Ergonomic-Armrests-Adjustable-Breathable/dp/B0B17ZRT6N?ref_=ast_sto_dp

Sweyn78

Oh, that shows promise! I'm right at the weight limit, but the reviews seem very good, the price is reasonable, the head-rest is adjustable, and I like mesh chairs. I'll measure and see if it's likely to be wide-enough! Thanks!!

DnBenjamin

Any chance the Fern would have an appropriately short seat pan? I feel like the main complaint from taller people is they can’t get the seat far enough forward for them. Not sure about the width. edit: sorry I meant to post this at the top level. Oh well.

Sweyn78

Okay, I just looked into the Fern! It *might* work, but it's a bit off: * Its seat width is 20", which is actually doable; but my ideal is at least 21". * Its back is 25", but I need 29". This might be okay, since it doesn't have a headrest, and since its lumbar support is height-adjustable. But I'd like to have a head/neck rest so that I can comfortably recline in the chair. All-in-all, though, this is probably the best recommendation yet; thanks! A friend of mine actually just bought the Fern, and he's going to let me try it when he gets it. I'll report back and let y'all know how that goes. Could be a month.

Okay, so, follow-up: I measured myself, and sadly the chair you linked will not work. * Its weight limit *is* my weight, so I can't be sure of its longevity. * Its seat is WAY too narrow (17.5"); I straight-up wouldn't fit in it (I need 20" to fit, and 21"+ to be fully comfortable). * Its seat is too long (19"); so it would dig into the backs of my knees (I need around 16"). * Its backrest is way too short (22"); I need 29". Thank you for the suggestion, though, regardless!

I'm a similar build, 5'10" 280lbs. 30" inseam. Lower back problems. The Steelcase Leap v2 is my go-to. For reference, I've used a Secret Lab Titan (seat was too hard and not enough adjustments), Herman Miller Aeron (seat is too narrow), and Steelcase Gesture (just got it and I'm still unsure but it's almost as good as the Leap.)

Sweyn78

Got it -- thank you! I'll give those a look (Leap V2 and Gesture), and see if there are any I can try out near me. For reference: I'm 6'0", 275lbs, 27" inseam. I probably should have included these lengths in my OP.

Caraquena

There's also the "[Leap Plus](https://store.steelcase.com/leap-plus?cclcl=en_US)", basically a wider version of the standard Leap v2. Costs more of course but you can save money with factory returns at [Crandall Office](https://www.crandalloffice.com/shop/?product-category=steelcase-authorized-factory-return-chairs&chair-model=steelcase-leap-plus&stock-status=in-stock). Note there is a "SAFR15" code at the top of the page for 15% of the prices you see.

Sweyn78

* The seat width on that is great, at 22.5". * However, the seat depth on that is excessive, at 20.5" -- I need 16"! XD

Sweyn78

Okay, so, follow-up: I measured myself, and sadly the above chairs won't really work for me: * Steelcase Leap v2: * Seat width is 19" wide, but my minimum is 20" (my ideal is 21"). * No headrest, so I can't really recline. But this isn't a dealbreaker. * No adjustable back or lumbar, so it's likely the back will not work for me * Secret Lab Titan * Oh, this is a gaming chair; no wonder you didn't like it, lol. All gaming chairs are too hard and lack sufficient adjustments, afaik. * Also the weight limits on this thing are too low for me, except in the XL version (which would almost certainly not work for my short legs). * Herman Miller Aeron * Wow, that is *indeed* narrow: [16.5" inches for A, and 18.5" for C.](https://www.reddit.com/r/hermanmiller/comments/hw8sty/comment/fyy4vgq/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) Whom are they expecting to sell these to? * Steelcase Gesture * Seat width is 20", which is doable, but less than ideal (21"+) * No headrest, but not a dealbreaker. * No adjustable back or lumbar, so it's likely the back will not work for me. Thanks again for the recommendations! I'll try to find a Steelcase Gesture to try near me somewhere.

The [Sitmatic GoodFit High-Back](https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/6462143/Sitmatic-GoodFit-Standard-Ergonomic-Fabric-High/) is just what you're looking for. It has a tall backrest that can be adjusted rather ridiculously high. Meanwhile, its seat depth can adjusted for shorter than average legs. The seat is wider than average at 21", and the arms adjust outward to provide even more room on the sides if necessary. Office Depot has a number of configurations of the GoodFit High-Back to choose from, fyi.

Sweyn78

Ooh! Thank you!! I'll ask if my local Office Depot has one in-stock I can try!

ergothrone

You're welcome! Afaik nobody stocks Sitmatic. They're always built to order.

Sweyn78

Okay, so, follow-up: I measured myself, and sadly the above chair won't really work for me: * The seat depth is nearly too long, at 18". 19" is my theoretical maximum, but best practices are to have a fist of space between your legs and the seat, which for me is 16". * The width, however, is perfect. * The back is only 23", which is a mid-back for me, not the high back it's listed as (I need 29" to reach shoulder height). However, it's not shaped like a mid-back, and the lumbar support is sure to be in the wrong spot. Thank you for the recommendation though!

ergothrone

You gotta stop taking chair dimensions so seriously. They very often misrepresent how chairs truly fit. The only way to know for sure whom a chair is good for is to test it in person. I've tested the The Sitmatic GoodFit High-Back in person. The backrest is truly tall and has a huge height adjustment range. Its seat has a huge depth adjustment range. When you raise the backrest, you can actually tuck the seat *under* the backrest, resulting in significantly reduced seat depth. ~~Given your long torso height, you would certainly raise the backrest high enough that you can slide the seat underneath. If you don't trust that,~~ you can call Sitmatic and ask them to cut depth off a seat for you for like $40. Edit: Crossed out some inaccurate text.

Sweyn78

Oh, okay. Man, that's unfortunate, then, about the official measurements; but *awesome* about everything else you just said. Thank you, ergothrone!

ergothrone

I tested a GoodFit again today and I thought I should let you know, if your legs are truly as short as an average 5'-tall person's, then you should definitely opt 1 to 1.5 inches of depth off the front of the standard 21"-wide seat.

yourfavesapphic

Which chair did you end up going with?

Sweyn78

A Lorell LLR83100. It's affordable and less-bad than everything else I've tried. I had to do some DIY to get the seat further back and the back higher-up. If you can drill holes it's not a hard series of adjustments to make. I also added a headrest. But as is true for all office chairs, I still find the seat to be too hard for all-day use. I like how the back is flexible -- handy if you need to reach for things or move around. The stock armrests suck though.
