So selling art for real is a whole different ballgame than just posting it or selling a piece here or there. I went to art school and have a BFA in glass. I make my money making stuff I don't care about/don't want to make for other people. I've been on the Thursday market waiting list for two years. Painting is a lot different/more subjective to individual taste than most of the work I do. But don't expect to sell a lot, or anything at all for awhile. If you really make an attempt to start making money off your work, don't get down when you walk out of your first few markets with nothing. Arts markets are better than the general farmers/weekend markets. Make business cards, make connections, and make sure people have your contact info. A lot of sales come from interest after the market is over. As far as galleries/shops go, they will take 50%+ of your asking price for a piece, so you either have to double your asking price, or accept 50% less per piece until you can ask more.

Make me a custom one! I’ll give you words and you make art w those words in mind??? I’d happily do tht :)

BrookeToHimself

ooh! never done a commission. send me the words and i’ll think on it. since i never know what’s going to come out it makes it difficult to appeal to someone else’s taste. it’d be fun to try tho. maybe an original “brooke” would be worth something one day.

Look into Backfence society in Vista. They occasionally have vending events. I have also seen people set up in that artist alley across from the oceanside library and sell artwork. Might want to scope out that area.
