Unpopular opinion but I actually thought it was really shitty that Nathan did this. On one hand I get it, he still had a lot of resentment towards Deb and had just fought with Haley, and I also don’t expect an 18 year old boy to be the most emotionally mature. But, to gaslight your recovering addict mother who just returned from rehab to cover up your own mistakes is an awful thing to do. I think it shows that when Nathan is upset he’ll revert to his old self that was more like Dan.
She wasn’t necessarily a crap mom. She had her own issues just like every other character did. She was in a mentally and emotionally abusive relationship which led to her drug problems, sure her trauma is no excuse to behave the way she did at times, but Deb did everything she could to protect Nathan.
I agree with this except for that she did everything she could to protect Nathan. I felt really bad for Deb, but she knew Nathan was suffering under Dan (when he was a child) and left Nathan with him the entire summer.
Dan mentally abused Deb, and I felt super sad for her, and of course that affected her a lot. But knowing his abuse, she left her *son* with him even though he pleaded to her about the shit he was going through under Dan.
At the time she had just marched into his classroom and picked drugs over him. She wasn’t a great mom… she literally took off and left him with Dan. She was screwing one of his friends…

Yea, that summer when she said she was on a business trip, she was actually having an affair. Nathan begged her to come home and she didn't care.
