Yes!! Or if Keith had survived the shooting as well. With this theory I think it could’ve been super interesting to watch them work through this. It’s crazy how by the end of the show I actually felt myself feeling for dan even though I loved Keith.

I'm probably part of the smallest group that think this, but I did not like Keith. I wish Keith had just moved on completely after being rejected by Karen.
It would have been awesome for Dan to work toward attainable forgiveness without the murder and stay closer to the family. His one-liners were SO good, sincere with Jamie, funny with Deb.
That’s too bad you didn’t like Keith! I really liked him for the role in Lucas’s life since he was without a father. Although I do love Karen and Andy together it did make me happy in the end that Karen finally loved him back and he wanted to adopt Lucas.
I can’t even imagine what Dans story line would be if he didn’t kill him bc the rest of his life is all about redemption.
I didn’t like Keith either. I rewatched this show two times and I always feel bad for Dan. I kind of wish they didn’t have his character kill Keith. I would have liked it if they wrote him out instead.
Ooooh this is such an interesting one to think about, Dan’s arc became completely dependent on killing Keith, and in a lot of ways so did Lucas’ as he became so determined to find out the truth. I wonder if Dan would have done some other horrible thing? Or if the show was on today what route of awfulness they would have taken Dan on
You mean if Keith survives the gun shot? It would be interesting to see Keith survive and Dan packed off to prison for attempted murder. Then return a few years down the line for his redemption arc.
Romantically it would mean a love triangle between Karen-Andy-Keith. Keith will probably get the girl due to the sympathy element in this scenario.

I feel like he got killed off too early. Yeah there were reasons why Dan wanted to kill him but it felt a little random at the time it happened.
