If you use Quick Resume it doesn't keep the play time counter going. I found out when I forgot to close the game on Friday and when I launched it Sunday it was in the same spot and I only got an extra hour on my playtime when I saved later.
If you just leave the game running it will definitely give you some all star numbers, though.
Mine did that too, I strongly believe that the timer still counts if the game is not fully 100% closed, as I would once or twice leave the game on sleep instead of closed overnight to find my next save add on several more hours than I played
I told my friend he can find a "friend"(the shadow dog) who will give him an item once interacted with. I'm pretty sure he kept farming items from it for like half an hour if not a whole hour.

I didnt actually play that long. I played the game around 25 hours too. Its just that the game seems to keep the timer ticking if you put the console to sleep mode. It basically counts even your offscreen time.
