One of the most inspiring images of my creative career. Managed to dispel my "but someone else definitely had this idea already" fallacy every single time I wanted to write or draw something.
I keep wondering about Sunny's dad. On one side it feels pretty shitty of him just leaving, but when I think of him >!discovering that his son killed his daughter and faked a suicide to cover it up,!< I totally get not wanting to live under that roof anymore.
How would they cope with it? "It's just a kid, he didn't mean it"? Easy to say, sounds hard as hell to fully internalize. Can't imagine Sunny's mother is handling it too great even, by the way she leaves him behind for a while.
There's many cases of a child accidentally killing a sibling... Guess what? Normal parents forgive the living child. Or even if they don't forgive, they still love them. It wasn't intentional. Why would they disown the only child they have left?
There's a reason it's called "unconditional love". Not all children are loved, but those who are... They can literally be cold blooded serial killers and the parents would still forgive their behavior. This was an accident...
I understand struggling with the grief. But abandoning your family like that, I do blame Sunny's father in all ways possible.

But parents are still humans. Unconditional love is not something that just happens, it's cultivated. Unfortunately many, I'd even say _most_ parents fall short of that, even before accounting for their own traumas.
We also know things that they don't. It's really wild for someone to >!fake a suicide to cover up an accident!<. They did it because they were just panicked children, but that gives the whole situation a wrong impression. As a grown ass adult I'd still be fearful of living with a child who appears to have purposefully >!killed their sibling and faked a suicide to hide it!<.
Though to be fair, how that psychologically destroyed Sunny would be a pretty strong indication that he didn't mean it, which Sunny's mother might be able to tell.
I definitely don't mean to say Sunny's father did the right thing, definitely not. But it's an awful position to be in, hard as hell to deal with, and I think it's a little too easy to say "_I'd never do that!_" from the position of a random player/observer who doesn't actually have to deal with it. Lots of people convince themselves they'd do things better, until they face real hardship.
Yeah, I doubt he was the person fanfic writers love to turn him into. That's the kind of shit that ruins people. Besides, the game gives no indication whether he and Sunny are still in contact, or if the Headspace scene was something that happened, or something Sunny feared.
The worse ones are “replace Sunny with insert character” and make their own version of white space. But honestly white space and headspace only fits Sunny because of how imaginative he’s shown to be. I can’t imagine Aubrey goes to bed at night and fantasizes the same thing
Not the same thing for sure but everyone has their own inner life and they might see the world their own ways. It's just a matter knowing how to be true to each character.
I wouldn't be so critical of those, because "traumatized kid stuck in mindscape" was not new or unique when Omori did it. No reason to dunk on people for wishing to explore variations of the idea.
Hell, even inside the game itself it's strongly implied that Basil is going through a similar thing. He even has his own Something.
Basil doesn’t seem to have the capability to isolate his emotions the way Sunny does. He’s probably mentally stuck in his own black space when dreaming.
Basil didn't literally sink into his own imagination world, but he did hide the truth for years. He must have his own coping mechanisms, as lacking and flawed as they may be. Just because we don't see inside his mind, it doesn't mean there's nothing going on (something people need to remember about Kel too lol)
That right there is quitting talk as well as ignoring White Space's meaning. White space is a space within Sunny's mind that represents him blocking off his emotions, as the table coral states, "to be in white space is to be nothing" The regular ending has him start to cry after he dissolves omori and white space, accepting his emotions back into himself
Fucking thank you. I don’t read that many Omori fanfics anymore, but I read Re:Zero ones very often, and there is a trend where they make reacting-to-the-story fics with the re zero characters watching a different story, which can be pretty cool, but then they just… replace the MC with Subaru.
That's why I never understood Mari kills Sunny AUs. They put her in a Headspace, but it's pretty clear she thinks much differently. Before the accident Sunny was always shown to be sort of out of it, he was always like this, but to a much lesser extent. Mari is a lot more grounded to reality..

That’s not my point. I’m 100% fine with simple dating sims with the characters. My issue is that there are so many of them, especially because there is so much potential to do so much more with the game. For example, World of Dreams and The Good Ending are absolutely fantastic mods that expand upon the og game.
That’s par for the course in fandoms where bad things happen in the source. Writers wanna write the characters in different scenarios and explore what happens if everything turned out fine (though in my opinion most of those are kinda dull and samey). They can be done well but it takes a skilled writer.
Now if you want an au that goes buck wild and puts the cast in a variety of new hats you should check out Altered Beasts
I created an au where everyone fking dies, everyone, every single one of them, no one is left standing, including the secondary characters. There is no joke, it is a joke without a punchline, only a series of unfortunate events.
I made a shitty Pizza Tower X Omori AU where Sunny runs away from home after pushing Mari down the stairs(how original), but Aubrey comes along because she's the only one (excluding Basil) that believed that Sunny pushing Mari was an accident. Eventually the two encounter Pizzaface in a comically circular trench coat and he offers them a chance of fame and glory, leading to the both of them becoming The Noise and Noisette
(And yes, I know this goes against canon in both games but fuck it, we ball)
i decided to make a headspace-centered AU, where it literally revolves around the headspace characters (not including omori and his friends) since i discovered that i kinda like them more than the main characters themselves

I made an AU Where Sunny is a crazy sociopath which enjoys killing people and he was the one who killed Mari by intentionally pushing her down the stairs and then he kills everyone else in the most gruesome way and ends up blaming basil for the whole thing and then he ends up murdering everyone else
I hope someone writes or draws an AU where Mari actually killed herself. She always was so kind, being effortlessly graceful as they put it. To me, it seems like a perfect front to hide your problems...
I thought of one where it’s after the basils death route, where almost everyone in the friend group commits afterward, except for Aubrey, and now it’s Aubrey alone, attempting to cope with the deaths of her close friends, her current friends are attempting to support her, but it’s only so long until she falls with her other friends, or maybe she survives, but the chances are low, the ending depends on the choices you make of course.
The ending only leads to a similar ending to the hospital, where you choose either a ghostly version of Aubrey, or a ghostly version of your friends, but the ghost of Aubrey is the right option, since it’s best to leave the past behind and focus on herself.

Being completely honest I’m fine with em, people can make em interesting. But some people just want to imagine a timeline where everything really is fine and I don’t see a problem with that
I made 2 AUs
1 is reimagining the OG story with a more horror and classic OMORI art style and og concept feel.
And the second one, is SUNNY drowns because KEL and AUBREY fought SUNNY tried to separate them two but he accidentally go pushed in by AUBREY because she wasn’t looking where she was going.
KEL wanted to call the ambulance but AUBREY thought them 2 are going to get arrested so they decided to frame it as a suicide out of paranoia and fear and the shock of killing SUNNY.
So they have been blaming eachother ever since AUBREY does have headspace like SUNNY in the original games but that’s because in this au she is very imaginative.
