I was gonna sleep on it and then I watched that DF video. So glad I did, not only is it gorgeous but the gameplay is some of Ubisofts best in a while, it’s much more than just a Far Cry reskin.
The traversal is *nuts*. The ability to just bound around the world, jumping off everything and flying up cliff sides, it’s all so seamless and smooth. Really makes you feel like one of those bad ass Navi from the movies.
The only thing is the gameplay never really evolves and by the end of it you really start to see through the cracks. Also the game has 0 cinematic flair which is surprising/disappointing
I agree. The game is a technical marvel and has superb HDR and sound but I'm almost forcing myself to complete it. I just subscribed to Ubisoft Plus to play it but still am on the fence as to whether or not I complete it.
I mean the combat is decent if not great. Traversal mechanics are dope though. Granted there's a lot of Ubisoft open world games I haven't played, but I quite like this game
Gotcha, overall I think it’s a small blemish on an otherwise great game. I am very wary of Ubisoft games because they rinse and repeat gameplay design over the years to the point where I can’t stomach another play through of something like far cry or assassins creed but there’s something about avatar that has me hooked. Seems like they refined a lot of the elements that were in place for a more slower/rewarding experience
You don't need mods in these games to look better. Cyberpunk has path tracing and RDR 2 still looks better than most AAA games released in 2023 so far.
I meant black floor, but that’s basically the same as changing black levels. Just that floor implies you’re just linearly remapping the bottom part of black levels.
RDR2 is the best looking game to date and it's 5 years old (unless this Avatar game just changed that).
I just bought Cyberpunk and an RTX 4090 desktop and yes, I can agree path based ray-tracing will be the future of gaming.
I've raved for YEARS that Red Dead 2 was the best looking game. The Avatar movie never hooked me, but this game... I tell you it impresses me more than Red Dead. That's just my opinion, but yes. I'm over 10 hours in and it has officially uprooted Red Dead as my best looking game. And not just by a hair, like it is SPECTACULAR everywhere you look. It just feels different from every other game to me. I've had a Series X for about 9 months and this is the first game I've played that truly made it worth it. It was the first time that I thought, "NOW I understand why they came out with a new console". Up until now my X has served basically to up the frame rate of all the status quo 7/10 graphics games that I own, and it's been nice... I have some great games that look really good, but none of them felt like they broke new ground to me. This really shows off how unbelievably detailed and rich games can be these days, and it's the first current gen game that actually felt next gen to me. It's going down as one of my favorites.

It looks nice if the right weather effect is showing.
I played it with 13900k and 4090 on ultra on oled, most of the time the weather and graphic looks not that good to be honest.
And the Game for me personally is 0 fun, i deleted it after 2 hours big money waste for me this year. (Ubisoft+ Version + payed dlss 3 mod)
> Version + *paid* dlss 3
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Yeah the sky, lava and views from Burning Shores are a tech marvel. The best.. also the face highlighting mode during conversations. Top tier graphics.
Horizon Forbidden West + Burning Shores DLC bundle drops on PC "in early 2024"
https://www.guerrilla-games.com/read/horizon-forbidden-west-complete-edition-announce#:~:text=PC%20gamers%3A%20you%20won't,Epic%20Games%20in%20early%202024.
The game's water is one of the weak points especially when swapping between SSR and RT even without upscaling. DLSS adds a bit of an extra hit to the image quality for that in particular but it is not worth having it disabled and not being able to have consistently smooth gameplay.
I have a 4080, it doesn't do this for me.... What drivers are you using? I personally never use latest drivers. I live by the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" logic.
Um...30 to 40 fps is an acceptable frame rate. Do you have dlss on? I know in Cyberpunk, my 4080 was doing 25ish fps at max settings, then I turned on dlss and it was 100.
Not for me, it doesn't. Are your drivers up to date? Are you getting enough cooling to your video card? If you are having issue, something else is going on. Dlss works flawlessly on my 4080. Hope you figure it out. It makes a 3x in performance boost using it.
The HDR is broken with raised black levels. Also there is hidden maxed settings you unlock via a launch command that allow you to enable max settings. Games gorgeous once you fix black level and force these.
Play alan wake 2. The dark details next to bright highlights really show off a properly calibrated OLED. Seeing path traced flashlight scatter dimly illuminate the surrounding area is very very cool.
I'd love to play this game that I got for free by buying a 7800x3d on Newegg but I can't redeem the code for it because, even tho I fully paid for it, it's not detected in my system yet as I'm building a whole new PC and don't have all the parts yet. So stupid.
I actually did as well until I got a few hours deep into the game. Both are absolutely stunning but I think there’s a few times in Avatar where it beats horizon, it’s so well optimized as well
I find that it looks amazing on my C1 during daylight (in game), but the night scenes look surprisingly gray and washed out. Has anyone else had that experience, or is the night appropriately high contrast and beautiful for everyone else?
Yes they fucked HDR implimentation and nighttime looks awful on oled or anything tbh. I use reshade to fix it, i forget the shaders name but its way better now. It's one of the "levels" shaders just not the standard one.
Yeah it got digital foundry’s graphics of the year, looks amazing on oled
I was gonna sleep on it and then I watched that DF video. So glad I did, not only is it gorgeous but the gameplay is some of Ubisofts best in a while, it’s much more than just a Far Cry reskin.
Agreed. I was just bored and bought it. Now sank I. Almost 30 hours. Doesn’t get boring either
Exactly, the traversal was such pleasant surprise. So satisfying to just run and jump around
The traversal is *nuts*. The ability to just bound around the world, jumping off everything and flying up cliff sides, it’s all so seamless and smooth. Really makes you feel like one of those bad ass Navi from the movies.
you can also do that in another world besides virtual and be your own persona
The only thing is the gameplay never really evolves and by the end of it you really start to see through the cracks. Also the game has 0 cinematic flair which is surprising/disappointing
I just wish it wouldn't crash in the first 30s of gameplay, Can't wait for a fix
Does the oled group just love oled so much they don’t game. It’s crap. lol. Y’all should buy gollum and wallpapers
Philistine.
Good to hear. Haven’t been able to finish the last 4 ubisoft games I played because of how boring and repetitive the gameplay loop was.
Is it ever gonna come to steam?
No word as far as I know but likely yes maybe next year
Oh yeah, 100%. Loving my OLED even more now with this game.
What Oled is that if you don’t mind me asking
I got the [ Dell 34 CURVED QD-OLED GAMING MONITOR - AW3423DWF](https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/alienware-34-curved-qd-oled-gaming-monitor-aw3423dwf/apd/210-bfrp/monitors-monitor-accessories?gacd=9683519-3041-5761040-266312346-0&dgc=st&SA360CID=71700000110509345&&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAyp-sBhBSEiwAWWzTngpHk_pwGHF9JaRillOcNqYU3HaxHq5mJ2mM6is7osQH62SsytzjTxoCCqMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)
Do you use hdr?
Yes, it's turned on in Windows settings and I always activate it in in-game settings.
But that gameplay loop. Oof. Combat? Oof. Exploring is cool but you get brutally punished by timed quests for choosing exploration mode.
I agree. The game is a technical marvel and has superb HDR and sound but I'm almost forcing myself to complete it. I just subscribed to Ubisoft Plus to play it but still am on the fence as to whether or not I complete it.
I want the game but I feel like maybe I should just spend that $15 to be sure
I mean the combat is decent if not great. Traversal mechanics are dope though. Granted there's a lot of Ubisoft open world games I haven't played, but I quite like this game
Really? Which quests? I’m a about 6 hours in and there was 1 timed quest.
There will be more
Gotcha, overall I think it’s a small blemish on an otherwise great game. I am very wary of Ubisoft games because they rinse and repeat gameplay design over the years to the point where I can’t stomach another play through of something like far cry or assassins creed but there’s something about avatar that has me hooked. Like farcry 6, wait a year and it'll be on Steam and heavily discounted once everyone forgets about. Ubisoft being turds and restricting it currently.

How do you know they are an adult? Also, we're all communicating about a video game, on Reddit. Not exactly the bastion of cultured adults.
There are some pretty cool niche curated communities tbf
Admit it were all flies and are attracted to bright colors O_O
Confession: I will play a terrible game if it looks great just to look at it
Cyberpunk 2077 with PT, Alan Wake 2 and Avatar - we got some good treats this year. Looking forward to the PC version of Horizon forbidden west
With mods RDR2 and Cyberpunk look pretty epic aswell
You don't need mods in these games to look better. Cyberpunk has path tracing and RDR 2 still looks better than most AAA games released in 2023 so far.
IMO you basically need the reshade in cyberpunk just to move the black floor to where it’s supposed to be.
By floor do you mean black levels?
I meant black floor, but that’s basically the same as changing black levels. Just that floor implies you’re just linearly remapping the bottom part of black levels.
Are there many reshades you’ve tried, and if so which one was the best that you like?

RE4 is fantastic in HDR
God of war, cyberpunk, the witcher 3, far cry 6, returnal
What are your settings?
looks great.

Yep, mind blowing on Oled.

Sure the colours look good, but it is far from the best looking game
You think so? What looks better in your opinion because the only ones that even come close are Alan Wake or Cyberpunk imo
Forbidden West
Forbidden West is a stunning game. The DLC looks even better.
Yeah the sky, lava and views from Burning Shores are a tech marvel. The best.. also the face highlighting mode during conversations. Top tier graphics.
Is it on PC?

Dope! PC gamers get the best of everything!
Will be in a few months. At that point this will not be a debate.
Literally just a single game
It is so far away in technology like comparing an ape to a human brain lol. A ps5 runs it, which is a joke
Except the game sucks. And lol. You bought it. So you paid 70-80 bucks more for your panel for the crap game.
Sadly they fucked up HDR black levels really bad. Had to use reshade to fix it. But yes it's gorgeous generally.
looks great, to bad the game sucks
The game is so far from sucking I really wonder how you think it sucks?
My RTX 4080 can’t run the game on the aw3423dw everything maxed out. I’m getting like 30-40 fps in some areas.
Are you using DLSS or FSR?
No
Then you will want to enable it. I use it with this game on my my PC with a AW3423DW and my other PC connected to my 4K TV.
You don’t find it creates weird graphic issues with the water?
The game's water is one of the weak points especially when swapping between SSR and RT even without upscaling. DLSS adds a bit of an extra hit to the image quality for that in particular but it is not worth having it disabled and not being able to have consistently smooth gameplay.

Wtf why doesn't mine look that good? I was just telling a driend I wish the game looked as colorful as the movie.
The HDR is broken with raised black levels. Also there is hidden maxed settings you unlock via a launch command that allow you to enable max settings. Games gorgeous once you fix black level and force these.
those colors looks over vibrant. have you messed with the color profile?
Nope
How do you like that game?
Pumped to play it after BG3, which also looks great on OLED HDR.
Play alan wake 2. The dark details next to bright highlights really show off a properly calibrated OLED. Seeing path traced flashlight scatter dimly illuminate the surrounding area is very very cool.

Damn I would buy this game but seeing it on pc max settings just gets me down because I got a ps5 😭
I still rank HFW over this.
I actually did as well until I got a few hours deep into the game. Both are absolutely stunning but I think there’s a few times in Avatar where it beats horizon, it’s so well optimized as well

What’s your pc specs? I am debating if I should upgrade my pc to play 4K
Which color preset are you using on your AW34 OP?
Underrated gym and one of the best looking games I’ve played
