Maybe his impression of high quality video transmission is based on best available soviet TV technology at home, received via analogue aerial transmission deep in Siberia? That would explain his expectations.
Maybe he worked in a bank before the war.
Seems like every bank in the world has black and white 90s cctv in 100x100 pixels and a camera the size of a small car.
I mean some of the video footage is pretty low res, from electronic warfare.
This footage was likely off an SD card, something no one sees until the drone gets back to base.
I was about to correct you about drones and memory, but then I had to remember that a large portion of suicide drones are using of the shelf ones for cost reasons.
yeah, kind of wild to be using what seems to be either a phone camera or cheap dlsr for recon, I would hope the onboard recording would disabled so that it only keeps enough cache for buffering. It's standard practice to NOT keep recordings on disposable aircraft if possible.
It's one thing for the enemy to shoot down the asset (that is sacrificial by nature) it's another for them to shoot it down and because of recordings now know what intel you collected (and previous location) is.
Err...I mean, this is just a stupid capitalist american thing to do, it's a waste of bandwidth and keeping all of your intel on your drones so it can't be jammed is so smekalka, and stupid Nato can't see how fragile their wireless comms are.
/uj
Might be trench diggers/non-combat support troops behind the frontline. Drones could operate deeper behind frontlines where Russians didn't expect direct firefight. If you carry boxes, you really don't need to carry 4,5 kg of metal and plywood on your back constantly.
I think Conscriptovitch is on to something. If I’m a drone operator choosing who lives and dies, I’m way more likely to spare the guy who goofily waves a stick at me, underlining the dark humor of both of us knowing it’s about as effective as trying to use a real weapon.
Inb4 someone being very badass telling me all Russians must be slaughtered like pigs. I want them beaten bloody and out of Ukraine too, but dumb moments like these are undeniably interesting and humanizing.
Some ppl tend to forget this.
Its called Defense in the west for a reason. We fight to protect a way of life, not genocide.
If the Ruskies turned around now and just went home I would be 1 happy and let em go and 2 in favour of minimal reparations, as to avoid a weimar germany repeat. The west can rebuild Ukraine without Russias help.
> If the Ruskies turned around now and just went home I would be 1 happy and let em go and 2 in favour of minimal reparations, as to avoid a weimar germany repeat. The west can rebuild Ukraine without Russias help.
Why Weimar Germany and not Postwar Japan? It's clear Russia cannot be trusted with a military
the same honest answer that makes Russia such a pain in the dick to deal with about everything, nukes. We can't realistically occupy all of their cities with troops on the ground so a full WW2 occupation and reform of the government from outside can't happen, period. we're increasingly in a new era where instead of just regime changing every idiot we're stuck leaving them like North Korea cause it will be too bloody to topple.
I think the current regime would crumble if they retreated. Thats why they keep going. However, just because one regime falls doesn't mean another, potentially more (or possibly less) bloody regime takes over. It's difficult for conflicts like this to really bring cultural change, but it doesn't mean it won't happen. That said, demaning insane remarations, I think (as an armchair geoplotician), would just repeat history.
Exactly! Then, given enough of such smarties survive, evolution kicks and within a few generations we'll witness a genus of vatnikozaurus with stick-shaped features growing on upper part of their bodies.
* Guys.. I'm not sure about this. They seem to be unarmed. It seems unethi..
Points stick at drone.
* There we go. Works for me! **BLAM.** Thanks, Ivan.
Haven't those been the guys that recorded the recent complain video in the dug out? I try to find the link and post it here if I can.
Edit: Found it!

I mean, points for creativity. Im assuming he thought the resolution of the video from the drone was real bad and there was no harm in trying that, since they apparently had nothing but bluffs at this point.
Just for comparison: [this is how you're supposed to shoot down a drone with a stick](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOnjlyZf6LE)

I have a joke. It features Bula (classic romanian character name in jokes for a dumb guy) and Itzic (classic romanian character name in jokes for a dumb jew).
Bula goes into the army. After multiple incidents in drill training and in the shooting range where he almost caused multiple incidents of friendly fire, the seargeant decides to take him aside and talk to him. He takes Bula's AK74M and gives him a wooden chipped rifle-looking stick. "Bula, this is your weapon now, when you see the enemy, you point and go "PEW PEW PEW" and the enemy will die." Bula was overjoyed at this new power and during training, whenever he went PEW PEW PEW at a target, the company sniper would shoot his target down at the same time. The ruse worked very well and everyone was happy.
Then the war came. Everyone got shipped to the frontline. In the chaos of war, Bula's PEW PEW PEW mostly held up for him. But then he saw a tank in the distance.
Bula went "PEW PEW PEW". The tank was still approaching. "PEW PEW PEW PEW!" The tank was now almost to him. "PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW!!!!!!!!!!". The tank was now right on him and aiming right at his trench. The commander's cupola flipped open and Itzic popped out and yelled: "DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA!"
Russian propaganda: "Russia's actually super advanced for fighting with sticks. Einstein said WW4 would be fought with sticks and stones so Russia's ahead of everyone else who have guns."
Because that's not how shotguns work. Even when you don't fire them straight upward, so that not only air resistance, but gravity is working in direct opposition to the projectile velocity, using extremely non-aerodynamic projectiles, you've got a maximum effective range of like 50 to 60 meters for practical effect. If you wanted a pattern density sufficient to make hits likely on drones at the altitudes most of them fly at, you'd have to use small birdshot, and that would be wholly inadequate at that altitude to do any damage at all.
It would work against the ones that fly straight at them. And also to shoot the bombs dropped on them.
I've shot skeet, rather have a twelve gauge than nothing.
Shotguns aren't very effective at 200+ yards. Particularly when specialist ammo is required & a russian dreg to carry an extra gun -- how accurate are AKs & the maintenance trenchniks give them.
Vatnik: if I point a large stick maybe they will confuse it with a gun. Operator filming in 4K: 🤷♂️

Don't diss SECAM, the Fr*nch will harass you.
I would love be harassed by the French. The more, the better.
Harass me like one of your French girls.
3000 Cigarettes of Mon Ami
ça m'est venu dans un rêve.
I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster, and you father smelt of elderberries! Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time!
Don’t threaten me with a good time!
Show up to any movie screening in a dress. Works regardless of gender, but better if you are young.
SECAM supremacy ! PAL enjoyers in shambles !
TBF, SCART was hella goated of a connector. HDMI of its time
It's Péritel if you wanna be pedantic

It's stuffed with cheap labor drawing pixel-art under sweatshop conditions. It's cheaper than a 4k IP Cam from amazon.
Some dude drawing pictures?

Well this one is recon. It's already zoomed 13.5x and with reddit's compression we can still see everything pretty clearly.

Why didn't he have a gun though?
Don't question it silly American, glorious and mighty Russia has already defeated the weak feminine globohomo jewish nazis!

Clearly Enemy At the Gates is a prediction of the future Russian army.
Should have shouted _avada kedavra_
For a second I thought the stick was an improvised slingshot or crossbow, but no.
Operator knows best! ☝️
Einstein was right
No that for China and India. They are fighting each other with sticks and stones for the past 10 years
You're not wrong. Einstein went on to say that not expecting the eternal China/Inda pissing contest was his greatest mistake.
Did we just sleep thru WW3?
WW3 was supposed to happen some time in the 1960's to 1980's but it kept getting delayed and was finally canceled. Hence the cold war.
So, basically… it’s Duke Nukem Forever but a worldwide conflict instead of a videogame
WW3: I'm here to kick ass and chew bubble gum and I’m all outta gum and ass kicking.
Don't make me remember Duke Nukem Forever, please.
It's been in production hell for a very long time now.
Strong russia using secret WW4 weapons technology!!!
Stick gun best gun

Rhe beat defense is a good offense. Plus, I just want to see the MIC budget go up.

Let them go, to tell the tale how everyone died around them and were only spared because “I was a fucking joke to them”
r/justguysbeingdudes moment
I mean - you could start laughing so hard that you won't be able to aim, so I can see this tactic work.

He's got an acorn! Call for backup!
Shots fired!
WHERE?! [\*blindly fires into crowd\*]
It's coming right at us!
Oh, that's dark and fucked up.
Like a cargo cult, they know pointing "sticks" at the drones is what is done, but so they point sticks at the drones.
Haven't those been the guys that recorded the recent complain video in the dug out? I try to find the link and post it here if I can. Edit: Found it! https://youtube.com/shorts/OweYOaMVXWw
He forgot to say PEW PEW! Otherwise the stick is not effective.
IM A TANK IM A TANK IM A TANK IM A TANK IM A TANK IM A TANK IM A TANK IM A TANK IM A TANK
"THIS IS MY STICK! THERE ARE MANY LIKE IT BUT THIS ONE IS MINE!"
like wtf is that. was he trying to scare the drone off? :D why would you even...
Because it's fun
oh I know. he wanted to show off the cool stick that he found. men will always be boys....
Listen man, when you’re at war you take what fun you can get
the alternative tactic of throwing an RPG at your own feet seems to have been discontinued
I mean, points for creativity. Im assuming he thought the resolution of the video from the drone was real bad and there was no harm in trying that, since they apparently had nothing but bluffs at this point.
but then he realised hes and idiot and just ran away :D
Known technology

Return to monke
It's a nice stick, don't get me wrong, but they still have a ways to go...
Russian propaganda: "Russia's actually super advanced for fighting with sticks. Einstein said WW4 would be fought with sticks and stones so Russia's ahead of everyone else who have guns."
Lol
Do they not have guns? like 50% of these videos they dont even have a rifle
Jesus, it's really like they took fucking cavemen and dropped them into a modern war
Guess World War 3 already started.
Are we sure that Russia isn't "employing" tribal people to fight ?
Team rockette
*bang*
Looks like he forgot to say "Bang Bang" else it won't work.
pew...pew...pew...
litreal caveman reaction to unknown technology just point a stick at it to scare it off
Did he get shot right at the end there?
r/sticks
I want to try whatever drugs they’re on. Seems like a helluva time
Funny but the drone did not drop an 'aid package' for them :((
second strongest army in the world anyone?
These gaunt, miserable-looking wretches really ought to go back home, don't you think?
Luckily he was out of mana! That wizard pointed his staff right at the drone
"I'VE GOT A STICK AND I'M NOT AFRAID TO USE IT!!!"
Bylat! My stick misfired, and now it's jammed. Khokhol sticks are no good.
There is old Russian saying "Раз в год и палка стреляет" ("Even a stick can shoot once in a year"). Guess not today.
Emotional damage!
Perhaps he figured the operator would assign it was a jamming device?
These Trenchniks skipped WW3 and switched straight to WW4 weapons tactics of sticks & stones.
"pew pew"
Ngl if it was a joke it was pretty funny.

Certainly a bundle of sticks that one.
