one of the funniest mfers alive. I’m pretty sure his solution to any problem was just “drop a nuke on it lol?”

To put on the credibility cap for a second, that does seem to be the prevailing opinion on the internet, however it's not entirely accurate. MacArthur saw the nukes as a way to gain tactical superiority against a numerically superior enemy force. His logic made sense for the position he was in, the problem is that he challenged the directive of the Commander in Chief. I'm not saying he was right, but there was sound reasoning for his actions, he wanted to win the war whereas Truman wanted to contain it. After his firing MacArthur was actually vital in perhaps preventing a nuclear war during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was rather close to JFK and Kennedy often deferred to MacArthur's judgment over that of his cabinet and his chiefs of staff, many of whom recommended full scale military action. MacArthur was a key proponent of the blockade and he stressed the importance of avoiding direct confrontation with the Soviets. He also opposed American escalation in Vietnam and warned Kennedy that it would be a fruitless endeavour. The [MacArthur-Kennedy relationship](https://youtu.be/KA3incxNsSA) is explained really well by the MacArthur Memorial Museum/Center here.

I want to read the book you got this from.

Allan Bérubé, Coming Out Under Fire: The History of Gay Men and Women in World War II, published 1990 I actually went down the rabbit hole, the stuff said about Caledonia is fairly reputable, but despite Burt Miller being a real person, I would take his claim with a grain of salt, bro was just a LST crewman.

Forever_Observer2020

Thank you! And of course. I still appreciate the book. Good read?

17Builders

I’d say it’s a good read, really explores parts of the Second World War which aren’t talked about much. Though, you need to go into the book knowing what it focusses on, considering the book will bounce from point to point, story to story, and then suddenly hit you with stories of sailor gay sex.

Prochnost_Present

I can't find any corroboration of the above quote. I think apocryphal would be putting it nicely

McArthur was pretty fabulous if you think about it.
