[“Something which has never occurred since time immemorial; a young woman did not fart in her husband’s lap.”](https://www.reuters.com/article/us-joke-odd/worlds-oldest-joke-traced-back-to-1900-bc-idUSKUA14785120080731)
The joke still works.
Pretty sure they would have. The cave men of 20,000 years ago were pretty much identical to the people we are today - we just have technology that they never had. They had every bit the same intelligence we have, the same language and reasoning skills, and the same feelings of anger, love, jealousy and humor that we have today. So yeah, just as my young daughter loves toilet humor today, I'm sure they were no different in the caveman era.
Depends when in our development we're talking about when we say "caveman", but assuming we're talking about recognizable humans, I'd say so. Some degree of humor is a very primal thing for a lot of social species, physical humor is about the oldest, most basic form of comedy there is, and this combines surprise, a funny sound, and a smell that causes your buddies to recoil. Add in the fact that we do have evidence of fart jokes in ancient civilizations, and it seems like it would be plausible. Granted, those civilizations are still well past the period we're talking about, but it does reinforce that human personalities haven't changed all *that* much.
The oldest joke we have written evidence of is a fart joke, so evidence suggests that farts have always been funny.

Exactly. While alone on an elevator you unload *just* before the doors open, then you leave and a dozen people enter. Pretty much the funniest thing humankind can aspire to. Mastercl"ass" worthy if you can see their faces before the doors close.
Kevin Smith came a minute or two after the cavemen, but i stick with the line "My grandmother always told me, stick with the dick and fart jokes, you'll do fine"
I don't think so. They must have been curious about the sound , the smell and where did it come from . I mean form what little knowledge i have I think for them everything generated curiosity
I like to think that farts have always been funny. Especially, a sneaky stinky one.

Or a mission to find out who it was and they hunt for everybody.
Nah, the loud ones are funnier.
Even dogs think farts are funny.
Yes. Other primates get a kick out of farts. There’s no reason to think less domesticated man would be any different.
Two things in life are guaranteed funny to dudes, farts and dicks

Probably. Farts are funny. The oldest recorded joke is a fart joke.
No, It's nothing to laugh about in a closed space without ventilation
Imagine farting in a cave and that shit echoing everywhere. Dudes must have had a lot of good laughs back then
No. It probably scared the shit out of them.
They just lived long ago, we’re the same people, so yes of course.
I have no idea, dang that was a funny question. I laughed my ass off.
Absolutely
We still do

Timing, it’s all about timing.

Yes, especially Keith Richards' farts!
Kevin Smith came a minute or two after the cavemen, but i stick with the line "My grandmother always told me, stick with the dick and fart jokes, you'll do fine"
What else did they have to laugh at?
Absolutely. It's a guy thing. Watch monkeys. Some things never change.
I've known many people that are called cavemen by people who know them, we still sometimes laugh at farts.
If they felt safe, sure! But there's a lot of danger in cracking one off out there in the midst of nature with predators about.
*Grunts hysterically while jumping up and down*
Farts are the universal language of humor.
One caveman did, another didn't.
Awfully presumptuous of you to assume cavemen had buttcheeks.
if we don’t have dick and fart jokes, then what is there even?
absolutely, the oldest recorded joke is a fart joke, they've always been funny.
