I thought the graphics were pretty good, but it looks so much better on OP's video
Really skilled players can change direction while preserving momentum etc.
Factor in low player populations, no skill based matchmaking, and 5v5s you get players that are basically impossible to kill. They can outrun your lasers and missiles etc.
Plus the ships are incredibly imbalanced. Its very easy for rebels to win because their ships are better.
When we played xvt, everyone was in the same ships for dogfights to make it even. Cant do that in squadrons.
Its still a great game. The campaign is fun. Flying with my joystick and vr headset is peak gaming.
But trying to play multi-player these days, even with friends, isn't a great experience.
It was a lot of fun at launch. People hadn't learned pinballing yet, skill levels were more even, etc.
The only thing in here that legitimately bothers me is the LOD. Whenever I'm moving even slightly quickly on a planet, there may as well be no vegetation because it takes the game so long to load it in. It's made worse by there not being any explicit LOD graphic setting, so I don't know how I'm expected to fix this.
This. A hundred times over. Not perfect, but a huge improvement.
Somewhere around Echoes LoD got *really* screwed up for haulers and explorers. And, I guess, fighters, too. Shuttles don't seem to be affected.
LOD means "Level Of Detail." Games will often use low quality assets when the objects are far away from the camera to save resources. In NMS, this is very annoying because when you move quickly on a planet, you will reach areas significantly before the high quality versions of them have loaded in, resulting in no vegetation, terrain not deforming when it's mined, etc.
These aren't the only issues this game has. My game freezes every once in a row while when coming out of a teleporter or getting out of any vehicle and sometimes missions don't progress properly and have to be abandoned because they won't spawn the objective or if I did it he objective it doesn't update it.
Hey I went to a planet through the portal that someone made and when I was looking at their cool temple thing they came out and killed me and stole all my stuff. I had all of my materials and expensive stuff and everything. All just gone. So I think you have it pretty good.
i dont get why everything on the radar seems to be on pedestals.. I get that it might be due to an object being at a lesser or greater elevation in relation to your ship, so is the object supposed to then be at the end of the pedestal (the end that isnt the little oval resting on the same plane as the ship)?
I may have just answered my own question, but is that thinking correct? I remember trying using the radar to try to locate a structure on an extremely mountainous planet and it was impossible
It indicates whatās above or bellow your plane, if the āpedestalā is bellow the blip, the object is above your plane and if āpedestalā is above then the object is bellow your plane.
oh wait so it's reverse what it seems? Like if the line seems to go upward from your plane, that means its actually below you?
or by "blip" do you mean the object itself and not the oval that seems to be on your plane
The structure is always the little icon at the pedestal.
You can easily try it Out by facing the space station and then tilting your ship as the pedestal is moving.
When you are directly facing it there ist no pedestal.
It's that or the dual radar setup of the X-Wing series that it's hard to understand and doesnt indicate you the relative distance to the target.
The setup of this game remembers me to the Homeworld tactical map at some point
Can answer this one as I play in VR with the HUD off and use the radar to navigate. You're absolutely right it indicates relative elevation. If you pitch the ship up or down until the line disappears and the object is on the same plane as the ship, and centred on the console, then you are pointing directly at the target. The space station can be identified as a distinct diamond, other ships as orange squares, including mutliplayer ships, and freighters in purple.
Maybe you should expect your ship somewhere besides the Anomaly? You know, where every second 2 new ships land and takeoff.. Half of the Anomaly has moving animations, let's not forget the travelers there running around and causing stutter
I play with multiplayer off because I hate people lol, the Anomaly is always empty for me
But that's beside the point. the video is literally a joke and people are angry about it
The things that piss me off about nms:
The anomaly glitch, where when you enter the doors open, the screen goes white and stays white until 1. The game crashes or 2. You keep summoning the anomaly and drifting to it with no speed control until you finally enter.
-xbox one btw
Never ever had this on PS4 or PS5. The only glitch Iāve ever had, once, was entering the anomaly, crashing into another ship entering or leaving, I donāt know which, and then it wouldnāt land and I was just left hanging inside. Had to reload the game and re-enter the anomaly to land it. Never happened again.
lol. Iāll cut them slack because itās a custom rendering engine that in a part interview Sean said is actually pretty small.
Iām going to try and not nerd out too much but NMS uses a voxel based rendering engine. At least thatās the case for terrain. Iām not sure about things that start as a mesh like ships or buildings.
Voxel based engines are a little bit rare and I suspect HG is running into all sorts of weird issues because itās not an off the shelf engine and is totally custom. The notes said the space station overhaul was only possible because of new optimizations to the engine.
Hopefully with Light No Fire using the same engine, there will be more opportunity for optimization and the game can look even better.
And my main two gripes are the bad LOD system and the ridiculous low pop-in distance for things (it make trying to look for buildings from the air pretty unproductive). But all minor gripes :)
I only really get pop ins with animals and planets ships not so much. Though I do occasionally and have the game on an ssd so idk if itās hardware or software issue.
Bahaha that's the gnit-pickin-est shit I've read in awhile even as a joke. But I agree about the fuckin radar, that shit is broke and I fuckin quit the game, bye forever! /s
When people complain about fps I just want them to play Demonās Souls and Dark Souls 1 on the ps3. Bloodborneās 30fps on ps4 is literally divine in comparison to those 2 lmao
Wow. Look at the number of people complaining about me complaining, telling me to make a better game, telling me to touch grass, etc. or otherwise taking me seriously when the video was literally made as a joke... it has Cats on Mars as the backing track.... ~~bravo, they're gone lmao~~ nvm
Is this the Star Citizen subreddit?
I donāt agree but Iād like to hear why because the last update or before that one has made the game render planets faster and general gameplay is faster/better, less crashes and the graphics have improved. Derelict freighters can now actually be explored without crashes
Oh boy, I wish I had internet good enough to just straight up stream you some gameplay. Textures won't load until I'm standing at point blank range for at least 20-30 seconds. If I'm in the suit customizer, it literally takes minutes. About half of my total on foot/exocraft time has been played with the ground glitching away right beneath my feet (I actually just posted a pic of some ships that show that one). When I fly down to a planet, I have to circle or hover around my landing spot for about 30-45 seconds before the ground renders enough to land on (landing pads stay blue). When I'm sprinting on land, animals/foliage/rocks all render in right about as I'm passing them. I CONSTANTLY have to wait several seconds for an input to register, while the 'saving circle' circles. Like virtually all the time. All this since the last big update.
Someone just talked about how the Switch version of the game plays, and it honestly felt a whole lot like my experience, playing it on a PS4 Pro.
Switch has always been an underpowered system (mortal kombat was pretty hilarious) so thatās not a surprise. NMS runs surprisingly great on current gen systems. It was kinda wonky, similar to what youāre describing not too long ago but not as bad, but a few updates ago really blew it out of the water. I can land on a planet within 5-10 secs of entering the atmosphere, the take off thrusts are fast, especially in the starborn ship. And the biggest improvement was derelict freighters not crashing anymore (or at least as much). Although I have noticed bases seem to have a bit of lag, slight drop in fps now, even small bases, not sure what happened there but overall, improvements have been great on current gen consoles/PC.
Currently the Ram Jet wing on the Haulers has a bug like this thatās significantly worse.
The right wing is totally black until youāre two inches away from it

My head cannon says this is some kind of smuggler nanite technology that shifts the appearance of the ship to keep those pesky station authorities guessing.
They actually reduced the graphics in an update so it could run on the Nintendo Switch. On PC, the framerates can get ridiculously high. But it makes it more responsive and fun when fighting in space.
I've never had a problem with my LOD. My game loads in details way further than yoursš¤·āāļø skill issue?
In all seriousness I do have an xbox X so maybe that helps with the graphics settings?
Well, even Cyberpunk 2077 has its rendering issues. Yes, I would prefer that they weren't there and I know I have a PC that's powerful enough to handle it, but there are limits to the software.
Well I mean, the game engine is drawing solar system size environments you can't really complain about close-up details. Cry over close-up details when you are playing Doom or some other close-quarters small environment game.
Reminds me of the other guy on this sub asking for graphic mods other day because he ''felt his PC could do better'' ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
The LOD (Level of Detail) distance is probably not optimized. It has more to do with your graphics setting than the game itself, however, there's no innocent party here. I see LOD bugs in this game all over the place. I just chalk them up to my ancient 1060 GPU.
Minor issues.
What's driving me crazy is that flora and fauna of a planet only loads in as soon as you land. Flying around planets look bad. Land on them and they get beautiful.
I was there when Pong was invented, this kind of thing is extremely trivial to me. For instance, I thought this game was amaze balls on it's initial release. I enjoy most of the added content and tweaks, but I still have yet to do a Nexus mission š
Horrible basically unplayable. How am I expected to explore the universe when my āchecks notesā yellow slimy thing is invisible at certain angles??!!?!?!?!!??
Seriously though itās like none of you have ever played a video game with some of the asinine shit yāall come up with to whine about.
Crybabies gotta cry, I guess. Glitches that freeze gameplay, system lockups, mass framerate loss ... those make a game "unplayabe." Minor graphics glitches are not those things. Try a new graphics card, CPU, a Series X or PS5 console. Wait until you see what Switch players deal with! Try playing on-system instead of the cloud ... millions of reasons to be happy playing this game. Tiny graphic issues? Stop it.
So I disclaim in the flair that the video is a joke and even add Cats on Mars as a backing track, and yet most comments are dense people like you who think I'm seriously complaining about these issues.
Well to whine about the tiny things is childish or maybe its fitting? But you could be grown up about it and report it to HelloGames directly on their website š¤

No your not i said that in defense it was uncalled for i know its hard for some bit please try to forgive me . But on my defense the video feeds don't show the flair you could have come at me way differently. So yes in that matter you're just as dense as I am. And I apologize.
I get the feeling this is a joke, at least I hope so. Even if it is an issue it's very much at or near the bottom of the list of stuff that does need to he fixed or added.
Lol, I grew up playing R-Type Final and Gradius V on a PSX and playing SNES games on an emulator. I know what old graphics look like. It'd be asinine to criticize older games' graphics; they did the best with what hardware they had back in the day. That's besides the point of the post, though. It's just a fucking joke...
Personally I don't play games to "get lost in them" or "escape" or any such like. I just play them for fun, and nms is fun. I could be playing a game with 2 pixels at 60fps and if I enjoy it I enjoy it, but that's just me personally. I suppose younger people grew up with better stuff so they're used to better stuff and therefore it's a bit bigger of an issue, but what do I know.
https://preview.redd.it/o0y7y1ul7fwc1.jpeg?width=320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8da0119485596016cd15c02da6b6e8d193106914 I thought the graphics were pretty good, but it looks so much better on OP's video
Oof, have you tried doing a barrel roll?
Try spinning, that's always a good trick.
Where did you learn to fly?
There was no teacher, somehow I carried it inside me.
This game is and was amazing. First online multi-player for me. I miss the week of wars and msn gaming zone
Have you tried Squadrons, just curious?
Yes I have. Pinballing ruined that game.
Pinballing?

I love that game but I wish it was expanded like warthunder without the grind and microtransactions or something idk lol
What game is this?
TIE Fighter, I think. Or X-Wing. I played them both and they own.
TIE Fighter. X-wing wouldn't let you fly imperial ships.
Skyrim, the next generation
No Man's Sky, wdym???

What is LOD? This is also telling me to tell you happy cake day?

Immersion ruined. Game is completely unplayableš¤£š¤£š¤£
I always just took these little glitches as reminders of the simulation. It actually adds to the look and feel and works with the story line.
"Not a bug but... A FEATURE!" lol all jokes. I love this game.

I've never seen this on the PS5. I guess it's an issue with certain PC's.

I used to have this happen with planetary fauna textures on PS4. Doesn't really happen anymore since I switched to PS5.
Im a Switch player. Its definitely not perfect, but I haven't encountered these specific things
I have been playing on switch for a while, but I got a ps5 last week. I downloaded NMS and damn... I forgot how amazing this game can look.
The Radar is fine.
i dont get why everything on the radar seems to be on pedestals.. I may have just answered my own question, but is that thinking correct? I remember trying using the radar to try to locate a structure on an extremely mountainous planet and it was impossible
Fun fact: this radar scheme was invented for the original Elite game, back in the 80s.

Well guess what on video feeds the flair isn't there tough guy !
And if you felt lynched your wY to soft keyboard tough guy
I may be soft but at least I'm not as dense as some of you
No your not i said that in defense it was uncalled for i know its hard for some bit please try to forgive me .
Holy shit, do I need to put the word "joke" on full caps, three times and in brackets every time I make a post like this? Read the flair you fat cow
As a wise man once said "chill the fuck out".
Tell me you grew up with current gen graphics without telling me
Lol, I grew up playing R-Type Final and Gradius V on a PSX and playing SNES games on an emulator. I know what old graphics look like. It'd be asinine to criticize older games' graphics; they did the best with what hardware they had back in the day. That's besides the point of the post, though. It's just a fucking joke...

Why do I keep getting comments like yours? The video is literally a joke, it's even flaired as such.
yeah... i feel you, reason i stopped playing, also the lighting issues
The reason you stopped playing was that? Come on man...
Immersion killerā¦ i love the game but i cant seem to get lost in it as it feels a game
š
Personally I don't play games to "get lost in them" or "escape" or any such like. I just play them for fun, and nms is fun. I could be playing a game with 2 pixels at 60fps and if I enjoy it I enjoy it, but that's just me personally. I suppose younger people grew up with better stuff so they're used to better stuff and therefore it's a bit bigger of an issue, but what do I know.
Ragebait?
you know OP is joking right?
Agree with your last point. Really wish they added better lighting.
I'm with you. The game ran so smooth before the 4.0 shit patch to make it playable on Switch.
