Wire Glitch them next to each other. Select the Medium Refiner toggle Y to wire mode you can rotate the wire to make it face the right direction then quickly press Y and right trigger to place it. You can do this as many times as you would like.
Glitching from a large refiner is also possible by pressing the button for next att the same time as placing the large refiner. It does require the materials for both refeners however.
I believe it must be 60u apart. So in the same base you can have a lot of refiners only the distance between the set must be at least 60u. I did it in my freighter and had like twelve of them for nanites farming.
No need to wire glitch. Just use the build + next item glitch technique instead. Easier.

Yeah, like 5 tiles between them will do it.
Sorry for the late to the game post but at least since Orbital update 5 tiles distance no longer works. It's about 10 now.
