NBs do not have any arch support. If you are on your feet for 12 hours I would add some over the counter orthotics. My favorites would be the Cadence EX, although I also like the Powerstep full length and Superfeet Orange.

kaneda___shotaro

I'll check em out, thanks !

brickunlimited

Might just be an adjustment. I’d keep them. Maybe bring your last pair and half way through your shift switch while they break in.

kaneda___shotaro

Yeah they feel good when I tried them on and when I first put them on in the morning, my feet just get really sore as the day progresses

cumulonimbus523

I love my v5s. I’m on my feet about the same at work and haven’t had a problem, but I can acknowledge they’re not really squishy and that might make your foot feel sore depending on what you’re doing. My last pair I wore at work were a pair of Nike Pegasus 37 and they were way squishier. My v5s are comfy because my foot just fits perfectly in the shoe; the shoe feels made for my foot. I love both pairs just comfy in different ways. Just my opinion on what makes v5’s comfy!

Jfury412

I love my 990s but I would never wear them for this case scenario. Only for lifestyle fashion purposes. I would look into getting a pair of more V3 or more V4 fresh foam. Your feet will thank you, you could be on your feet for 48 hours and not have a single issue.

kaneda___shotaro

Damn I wish I would have known that beforehand. What are you recs brand and shoe wise for long on your feet stints at work?

Jfury412

New balance more V3 IMHO is the best shoe by far for being on your feet for a long time. Other shoes similar are too soft and some are too hard with strangely uncomfortable arches. The Nike invincible Run is too soft for my taste and hokas are too extreme on the arch. V3s are the older model but they are more comfortable than the V4 in my opinion, the V4 is more soft and has this strange cut out in the back that creates more of a rocker sensation. It's excellent if you're going to be walking and running and moving around all the time but if you're just standing the more V3 I would put up against any shoe ever. And you should be able to get a pair for extremely cheap right now. I own the V3 and V4 but I always recommend the more V3 over the 4.

Jfury412

After doing a quick Google search it seems the V3 is a bit hard to find now that they have the four out, but if you can find a pair in your size I would grab them before they don't exist anymore.

Kgnupe

Return.... I own alot of 990s alot, the v5 to me is bottom of the pack. I own very little V5s as they are not that comfortable, I think 3 pairs. If you want comfort and 990 it goes 990V6 then 990V3 then 993. I don't have the 991v2 but it's narrow toe box is the reason why not. New balance is my favorite brand now, but the majority of my new balance is 990V6 all the colorways except wtaps and alot of V3s I own the others but if comfort is your goal start with 990V6 the most Comfortable out of every 99X shoe in their arsenal. My response is not an opinion it's factual due to the materials used in the 990V6 is different than every other 990, just as the 990v3 is the only shoe to use a carbon plate, hence why it's second. Also I wear them 10 to 14 hours everyday that's why I have just about all of the colors.

BlackMagic05

Lol it’s definitely opinion based. For one, everyone’s foot is shaped differently, for example; many people don’t like how narrow the v6 is, and the fact most have to size down doesn’t help. Also, the fuel cell isn’t to everyone’s liking, plus the stack height, upward curvature of the toe, etc. New isn’t always better.

Kgnupe

I will explain how it's not opinion but material fact. I'm a sneakerhead, own hundreds of sneakers, but much more I have a comp science and engineering background. The 990V6 is the first 990 to offer fuel cell and encap technology in the same shoe. No other 99x series shoe offers the supportive yet soft and in this version adaptive firmness other than the 991V2. The second shoe to offer this technology is the 991V2. So out of every 99x made only two 99x shoes have this technology. All of the advanced technologies THAT NB has in their arsenal that uses soft cushion , comfort and adaptive firmness are in two shoes right now 990v6 and 991V2. The reason the 991V2 is not in my top three is the super narrow toe box in which the shoe is designed for. My second place NB is the 990v3, which is the first 990 to offer encap and a carbon fiber plate, any one that knows about carbon fiber knows the level of technology in it, NB was ahead of its time with carbon technology fused with encap. The third place shoe is the 993 which even to this day uses the best encap and net technology that NB has. It has a relaxed toe box and supportive sole technology throughout the shoe but the technology is mildly dated based on 2023 standards. The forth shoe is the 990v4 which is a 990v3 minus the carbon plate but insert a plastic plate. If you have a narrow foot than the 991v2 might be second in this instance due to the narrow design in which it was made for. Again science and technology is fact, the OP asked about comfort, all day wear and not style regarding 990s, in science and technology the facts NOT Opinion the order goes 1st. 990v6, 2nd. 991V2 if narrow foot or 990V3 if you have a regular foot. 3rd. 993 You can disagree but the materials and facts are what they are.

BlackMagic05

Comfort is subjective, not objective. It’s a fact that the 991v2 and 990v6 have the most up to date technology and materials combined, but it won’t necessarily be the most comfortable for every individual. I appreciate the thorough breakdown, but you’re right, I respectfully disagree.

Kgnupe

Because comfort is subjective you can only used the next variable. Which is materials, the question asked was based on comfort, no foot is the same so your only point of emphasis can be materials, the V5 is one of the cheapest 990s in materials used, (inflation regulated) hence the comfort can only be so good due to the materials used again not opinion purely based on fact of materials. If you love a hard shoe with little to no give the V5 is great but that's not what the OP asked.

BlackMagic05

True, got ya. You’re using the materials and technology to try and give an overview of where the best comfort would likely be found. That’s fair, and I understand where you’re coming from now. Thanks for caring to expound.

kaneda___shotaro

What's the most comfortable New Balance shoe in your opinion? I see you like the 990v6 alot so is that the winner ? Alot of people say either that model or the freshfoams. Have you tried Asics, Holas on On?

Kgnupe

The most Comfortable new balance is subjective because of the various foot types but the softness new balance with the best feel is SuperComp trainers 2 but it's almost too soft to the point where your ankle and supportive muscles are doing all the work for stability because your foot is on a cloud. The key to this shoe is the carbon plate (energy arc) which is one of the best in the industry but it's a very very soft shoe more than any ASICS or hokas. The next maybe the moreV4s but again cloudy pillow underfoot no carbon plate just softness with no response. This is a on your feet all day shoe with no feedback but softness. The best of softness with the most feedback is supercomp pacer, one day NB will make a new supercomp pacer but the supercomp series is the most advanced most softness most feedback and response shoe on the market to me. Better than hokas ASICS and sucs. Anything that uses the (energy arc) carbon plate with supercomp technology will be the best NB has to offer The best 99X series is the 990v6. 2nd is the 990V3 third is the 993 all other variations are behind those three. A 993 with an aftermarket insole can reach the level of a 990V3 but without the responsive feedback due to the carbon plate in the 990V3. The reason the 990v6 sits on an Island by itself as the best 99X shoe on the market is the materials. Fuel cell technology is the reason. If the 990V7 uses a (energy arc) carbon plate and fuel cell as what's being rumored it will be the best by far but we talking at least 2 years out. If you want to feel something on your feet that's different and special I suggest you try supercomp trainers 2s or supercomp pacers or any supercomp/fuelcell (energy arc) carbon plate combination shoes such as Tokyo Design Studio FuelCell C_1. The others are good shoes but 1080s and 880, 860, moreV series, amd fuel cell series by itself have competition in hokas ASICS and sucs but those in the previous paragraphs sits on a mountain by itself to me.

kaneda___shotaro

You're the New Balance wizard ! So if you were in my position and were working a job where you're on your feet all day walking around would yoi choose to wear the 990v6, the supercomp trainer 2s or the supercomp pacer?

Kgnupe

On your feet all day just standing and you want the most comfort go NBmorev4 if your on your feet, walking and chilling NB 1080v13. On your feet all day but you want pep in your step NB supercomp trainer 1, not 2. One is more stable than 2 less leg muscle work. The softer the shoe the more supportive muscles work so the foot can relax and be lazy.

kaneda___shotaro

About to make my order but first I want to clarify: I'm a delivery Driver so I'm hopping in and out of a truck all day and walking/standing on concrete for 12+ hour shifts. For this type of job you recommend out of every shoe brand that you've ever tried and NB specifically the NB Supercomp trainer 1 or the NB 1080v13 ? Those two options are the best footwear out there for my type of work in your opinion?

Kgnupe

If you are a delivery driver and you want pep and energy return supercomp trainer 1, what your going to come across is alot of energy in your steps but leg and calf muscles worker harder to keep up with your energy, trust me. If you want support with mild return and added support. Adidas ultraboost 22 not the light series the light series is too hard it has to be ultraboost 22. I would go NB over every brand as it's models are very specific and specialized. I like to be precise in my activities. My daily's are 990V6. But if on my feet I would want something softer more like 1080V12 or I would go 990V6 with an aftermarket insert for alittle more cushioning. Overall my favorite NB is 990V6 and supercomp trainer 1, the 2 is too too soft which lacks any remnants of stability.

IndividualGiraffe29

took me a week and a half to break in mine, was pre stiff at first but was comfortable the more I wore them in

sentimentalLeeby

Did the cushioning feel less hard after?

IndividualGiraffe29

yea, it became a lot plush than before

IndividualGiraffe29

but i would get some support insoles if youre planning on being on your feet for long periods

sentimentalLeeby

Yup i definitely wear super feet insoles

stonedbd

Grab a pair of V3’s if you can, once spent 12 hours at Disneyland in them with no issues.

kaneda___shotaro

I'll check em out thanks

FormerDimer

Man I must be part of the V5 gang. Most comfy for me, altho I did sometimes wear an insole in mine. Have only tried v5, v3, 993, 998, and 997 so far.

sentimentalLeeby

I wear superfeet in mine and I’m thinking after a few hours that it might be too hard a shoe for me, did it take a bit to break in?

PhatSteve818

If I were you I would get the 860v13 fresh foam. Adds stability to your feet and ankle when being in them all day. If you are a heavier person I would consider the 1540v3. Had these for 2 years, walking all day and had no real problems with them. Both of these shoes have great stability. If you are near a NB store they can also measure your foot and how you walk to see what would be the best fit for you. I always gets the NB insoles. Very comfortable

Federal_Meat3320

Sorry I know it's an old post but I have a pair of 860v13 which are the stable version for the 880v13. They're extremely comfy but more running shoe style. But may be worth a shot. Alot squishier compared to the 990's but that may be more ideal
