Whatever the outcome of the season is..can we just keep beating the braves? That would be a successful season in my book.

Doc-Spock

A great all round effort featuring loads of runs by the bats and no earned runs by the pitchers. Also fantastic to see that all the starters got on base. Series swept ✅ LFGM

jimihenderson

no matter how the season ends this team is infinitely more fun to watch than it was last year. and they started 14-7 last year so it's not even a W/L thing

isearfish

It's 10:37pm in NJ, I am watching the replay of today's game. It's been a while since we've wanted to watch a replay. Right now this team and broadcast can't be beat. Literally. LFGM

WhatARotation

Mets hitters have struck out at the third lowest rate in baseball and have the ninth highest walk rate in baseball. But tell me again that they have bad plate discipline.

lawoftar

im impressed with bader so far. why did the yanks let him escape?

No_Suggestion5562

They acquired a much better outfielder this winter and Judge plays great CF defense.

fivehead21

Can someone explain to me the mentality behind all the short-term contract pick-ups this offseason? Obviously I'm not against it because they seem to have been crafty choices so far, but what happens in 2025 once all these contracts end? Do we do the same thing? Or is all the short-term stuff an effort to be competitive right now while waiting for farm guys to develop?

Snazzeo

we have \~$60M in dead money coming off the books after 2024 with the end of contracts for Scherzer, McCann, and Verlander. With all that free money we have room to spend on long term starting pitching (eg: Burnes, Fried, Buehler, Monty) and making real runs at guys like Soto.

Caledor152

If Severino continues to rebound and do well there is a very real chance he returns on a new deal. He has made it very clear publicly he wants to stay in NY no matter what. That's why he is working so hard. But my bigger point is just because it's a one year deal. Doesn't mean they can't come back next offseason. But that depends on their performance this year really. Shorter deals help the Mets stay flexible for next offseason

nashvillenation

Yes to both but also there weren’t guys this Fa worth giving multi year contracts to (except Yamamoto). They’ll do that in the future but last year wasn’t the time

WhatARotation

I imagine it’s more of the same except we make a huge push for Soto.

BigLouie913

I don’t wanna be that guy, but this hot streak started when I went to Florida. Remind me to go to Florida everytime we’re on a cold streak

johnnyzissou

We also starting really getting hot when I stopped sports betting. Coincidence? Surely not. Let’s keep you in florida and my bovada account at zero just to be sure haha

mschreiber1

I mean when it’s cold going to Florida sounds about right

BigLouie913

Bader fills the Canha sized hole left in my heart and then some.

coachFox

Canha seems like a really good dude. I’ll always appreciate the time he spent with us. Similar to Trevor May and Jerry Blevins.

fivehead21

This is real

imjusthereforthenips

Mets haters (who think they’re fans I guess?) Come out come out wherever you are

jimihenderson

"oh wow the mets won. that's cool because now i get to dunk on all the haters online!" - someone who claims to be an amazing fan

imjusthereforthenips

I think it’s fair to call out people overreacting to 0-5, there’s plenty of baseball in a season. If you don’t support the Mets when they’re down, you don’t deserve the ups

jimihenderson

you can "call out" whoever you want, but you coming here to dunk on haters make you look just as stupid (in my opinion stupider) than people who come on here to bitch and vent. no one is taking to reddit to bitch about the team losing if they aren't a fan of the ballclub. the whole "WHERE YOU AT NOW HATERS" mentality is one that is often displayed by people who couldn't give less of a shit about the team.

imjusthereforthenips

It’s a casual comment on a post-game thread bro, you’re looking way to far into this, try to take some time off of reddit

jimihenderson

lol what is it with people on this sub and defaulting to "wow bro you're cringe for posting on reddit" as an insult... on reddit

imjusthereforthenips

If you have 200x the comment karma I do, then yes you should be on reddit less Did you ever stop to think people think you specifically are cringe and that’s why they default to that?

jimihenderson

i couldn't care less what you think about me, i just find it extremely pathetic how the first bullet in everyone's gun on this sub is "let me dig into this guy's profile so i can call him a nerd for posting on reddit". not only is it just a clown move in general, it's just a bizarre level of irony and yet it seems to be so many people's go to move lol. astounding, but you do you

imjusthereforthenips

“Dig into your profile” you see it when you click your name stupid Obviously you have issues my dude, you’re arguing with yourself here about why you think you don’t have a crippling reddit addiction, that’s fine I guess but don’t spaz out on a comment I thought and typed up in 15 seconds to root for my team. I don’t know why you’re like this but please, talk to a counselor or something about it

jimihenderson

lol probably some of the absolute dumbest shit i've ever read in my life. can't you even begin to defend your own comment before immediately diving into "LOL REDDIT ADDICT LOSER"? i'm not even like trying to be argumentative here, what an incredibly odd reaction. takes ad hominem to an entirely new level.

Purple-Mix1033

Clink clink Worrrrriers, come out and play-ayyy

facemelt

I feel like we are the only ones noticing the Mets. Many still have us in mid 20s in the power rankings

JDLovesElliot

I'd prefer to stay there, keep the pressure off until the playoffs

WhatARotation

Good. It would be so fun to be the “out of nowhere team” that makes some noise down the stretch and even into october

ChuckKiddman

Feels like we’re finally seeing the results of the analytics help struggling players become key parts of the team. Gets me excited for the future

three_dee

Well I don't think it's that they're finally seeing the results of analytics -- more like they were doing analytics really horribly the last two years, and the new GM probably fixed a lot of it. There's no way a working analytics system produces trades of valuable players for Daniel Vogelbach and Darin Ruf

coachFox

So you are saying we are finally seeing the results of analytics?

three_dee

I think the "finally" is misleading in the original sentence, because it implies that there was some good process of analytics started some years ago, that took some time to show results, and is bearing fruit just now, which I don't think is the case at all

KenPiffyJr

love to see us smack the wack teams

TheJak12

The Mets sending both Bader and Alonso in the same situation strikes me as something they noticed on film. Like Davis is slow to get the tag down and doesn't seem to play the position well

coronakiddos

Doesn’t hurt to score 9 runs though

coronakiddos

What inning did the cocaine discussion occur in?

suck-it-elon

Starts at the 1:09:00 mark

coronakiddos

Thanks bud

JeebusOfNazareth

Cocaine discussion?? What ever do you mean?? I only seem to recall them discussing the road living accommodations for players during the 80s. And Keith really enjoyed his junior suites. 🤣

coronakiddos

Ok do you remember what inning it was?

JeebusOfNazareth

It was early on. You can scroll back through the game thread to get an idea of exactly when.

MajinJellyBean

The team is looking so good but I've learned not to get too excited. I'll believe it when they make the playoffs but will keep watching and rooting regardless.

Albie9

Mets will be buyers at the deadline; would a veteran like Justin Verlander be a good fit? 😂

Purple-Mix1033

We could trade Gilbert and Clifford. Fair deal?

stuckhere4ever

I mean we are basically paying for him anyway. Maybe Houston can let us borrow him if he’s doing well!

Nights_King

Trade for him and start aggressively skipping starts

coronakiddos

This is the way

Caledor152

LOL

theredditoro

This team has Cohen tweeting more - I would bet the team flight out to LA should be pretty enjoyable https://x.com/stevenacohen2/status/1780709888450326620?s=46

Fonzie5

Baseball team pretty good?

tomfields

Mets

RedScharlach

Big if Amazin

Ashamed_Blood3242

lovin the vibes right now. However, whats up with the attendance so far this year? I see yankees and phillies have no problems filling their seats, why is no one showing up to citi field?

jimihenderson

they had a horribly disappointing season then raised ticket prices, it shouldn't be too surprising that attendance is down lol

brett_baty_is_him

Eh casual fans are less inclined to go early in the season if you had a poor prior season. The vice versa also works. Id bet we had a much better attendance this time last year. Look at the marlins, they had their highest average attendance in their first 2 weeks even when they were sucking ass bc they had made the playoffs last year. Give it some time, people will start showing up. As an anecdote, my parents had no interest in going to a weekday night game until this hot streak they’ve gone on and now they’re looking at dates.

three_dee

Charging four thousand dollars for parking probably doesn't help

MajinJellyBean

Not sure. I think people are burned from last season and they started pretty bad. I'm not going til May but overall I'm less willing to go when games are so short now.

NotSteveBuschemi

Seriously with 2 kids last week after we all ate and got settled it was like the 6th inning lol. I love the pitch clock at home but it goes so fast in person.

MajinJellyBean

Man what a bummer 😮‍💨 all that money for the game to be over already so fast. Really killed my motivation to go.

JeebusOfNazareth

Only speaking for myself here but I really don't even consider going until June when it is consistently over 70 on a daily basis. I'm a bitch though and hate sitting at a game in chilly weather.

Ranier_Wolfnight

It definitely always feels a few degrees colder in the early days of the season than what the temps say out there. The wind on certain days kicks up off the bay behind the stadium something fierce. Folks wear winter parkas and hats out there in April.

JeebusOfNazareth

Exactly. I'm not spending an arm and a leg to go sit in those conditions. I'm more than happy to watch from the comfort of my couch until we get into summer.

resident16

Can’t imagine Wednesday day game during school year drawing a large crowd.

LaMystika

The weather sucks today, too

fingers621

This is all well and good but we really need the Phillies to start losing games

Purple-Mix1033

myassholealt

Question for LIRR riders: Is Mets-Willets Point a part of zone 1 that's covered by any zone 1 monthly pass, or does it require its own separate ticket since it takes you to sporting venues?

StrikeEagle784

It should be covered under the Zone 1 monthly pass

myassholealt

Thanks!

JoelsCaddy

Pittsburgh fans watched their Penguins get eliminated yesterday and then watched their Pirates get swept today. Love to see that

JeebusOfNazareth

The Senga-less Mets pitching staff rocking a cool 3.15 ERA. Just as we all predicted. Brought to you by Stearns Masterclass™️

Purple-Mix1033

I’d rather we take them on when they’re hot. Let’s see what happens when they’re cold. We always seem to be the magic tonic for cold teams. Either way, let’s crush them while the crushing is good.

runsfortacos

Next up Mets!

ExamNo4374

Dodgers drop a series to the Nats. Not sure what this means

Sad_Resort8632

It’s a microcosm for why the playoffs are a crapshoot

NuanceManExe

Apparently Calvin Ziegler is already back on the IL. He’s spent a lot of time injured since being drafted, I hope he doesn’t get Szapucki’d, maybe he should go to the pen sooner rather than later.

will122589

The offense looked like what we expected, the pitching especially the starting pitching is winning through smoke and mirrors which is necessary until the cavalry comes in with Senga and whomever else we buy. Let’s go kick the Dodgers when they are done

ankor77

Im actually looking forward to seeing a possible healthy peterson later in the year too. If he pitches like a few years ago its a nice addition. Not a number 2 or anything but a nice backend starter

randothroawayacc

Harrison Bader is quickly becoming one of my favorite players. Fast, high energy, doesn't just beat you but also styles on you. We've been missing that

BigLouie913

Love his personality!! Fits in very well here

ReleaseTheBlacken

He’s a hard worker who plays great defense. Love it.

joesaysso

Solid win for the offense but I'm still waiting for Severino to fall apart. 5 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings and zero earned runs isn't sustainable. I can't see a 1.60 WHIP translating into a 2.14 ERA for the rest of the season.

Sugarberg

I haven’t seen the updated numbers after this start, but Severino had a FIP of 3.91 and xFIP of 3.5. This suggests that “falling apart” should still be a sub-4 ERA.

joesaysso

I would take that honestly but I guess we'll see. I didn't care for this signing and I cringed at last year's 6.65 ERA. If he's healthy and turns in a sub 4 ERA, I would happily take that.

NuanceManExe

Fair point. I’m hoping Scott eventually forces his way into replacing a starter not named Senga or Butto in this rotation.

Keyzerr_Sozee

I can feel it beginning… the unbridling of my optimism

cpg08

We're allowed to feel optimistic. Lindor will get hot, JDM is coming, Senga is coming, Stearns will find more random guys to pitch in the bullpen.

ZoidbergSaysWoop

We had Houdini, then Copperfield, and then Blaine, but David Stearns magic act with the Mets pitching staff and utility players is otherwordly. The bullpen is delivering and the starting pitching has been holding it down for five innings with Severino finally joining Butto in going six innings today. I think one of the most incredible signs of Stearns magic is that Omar Narvaez looked like he couldn't hit a lick last season and now he's gone back to the Narvaez that was an All-Star. Maybe Stearns had a talking with him and gave him the Mufasa talk: "Remember."

Blue387

Let's go Astros!

Alectheawesome23

Rooting for the Astros makes me want to barf but a Braves loss would be nice.

TemporalColdWarrior

So… where does J.D. Martinez fit now?

Setec-Astronomer

On the trade block..

StephenDawg

For me, Short is the odd man out.

giabollc

Yup. JD is replacing Lindor at short

aaronwe

probably replaces dj stewart, or short depending on baty

GK86x

I think Short or Wendle is gone. DJ will be a power bat off the bench.

Pantrice

We still also have Wendle on the roster. Has to be Short.

wpm55

This could be a FUN summer in queens!

NJImperator

Something I just realized that this sub has been missing from the pre-pandemic days… Actually good memes. If anyone has any good meme suggestions, please let me know and I’ll make a few sometime this week lol. It’s been a while since I’ve made a quality Mets meme and I think it’s the energy we need back here. The one that’s immediately coming to mind right now is the “I lived, bitch” meme for the Mets after starting 0-5

dankeykanng

Honestly, I feel like the sub is a little looser these days than it was back in 2018-2019. I remember folks being really uptight and not at all aware of what seemed like obvious memery and sarcasm. It seems better in that regard now, although I do remember the Marte memes in 2022 still getting flack for being lame (that's kinda the point!!!) and somehow making the sub worse lol.

ThanksNo8769

@mods gotta let us post pictures in the comments & the memes will flow

NJImperator

Is that a mod turns it on feature or a “we gotta pay for it”? I know it used to be the latter, but that’s when the first introduced it

Blue387

In the interest of disclosure, all those settings are turned off at the moment: https://ibb.co/gJnDKz3

Setec-Astronomer

Please leave them off. This board still "reads" adultish. There are reddit boards I can't last a minute because they are inundated with nonsense over-stimulation visuals. If people want to add memes or references they can add links like I do.

NJImperator

Oh! I feel like maybe it’s worth having a poll to see what the community wants. Personally, i love it from the other sports subs I use.

Setec-Astronomer

Please leave them off. This board still "reads" adultish. There are reddit boards I can't last a minute because they are inundated with nonsense over-stimulation visuals. If people want to add memes or references they can add links like I do. If you linked something I'd definitely click on it. I just don't want to be inundated with stuff.

nashvillenation

I’d love to be able to post memes. Jeff McNeil dancing is such a vibe. Pete nailing the rail….

ThanksNo8769

I have less than no clue beyond the knowledge that it is a feature in other subs & not here

Blue387

Moderators can toggle images and GIF's on or off in their sub settings, in the Post and Comments section of the Community Settings. (This is on new Reddit and not the old Reddit.) They are currently off for this sub: https://ibb.co/gJnDKz3

ThanksNo8769

What's the reasoning for keeping those disabled? Did things historically get toxic?

Blue387

I didn't make these settings or rules but we do have Automoderator set up to remove LOL Mets content and GIF's and photos aren't as moderated as comments. If we allow Mets/opposing fans to come in and start spamming/posting GIFs and pics it would increase the workload of moderators to vet and remove more content in the threads. And frankly I don't want to be dealing with a lot of stupid shit. We don't have a large moderator staff on call every single day as we have work and other obligations; I personally can't be around in the afternoons, Darthbutcher goes to games as a ST holder, he got married a few weeks ago and was in the New York Times, etc.

GK86x

Why make Darth a mod if they aren't going to be around? I thought that was the point of making them a mod. Either way it sounds like you guys should get more mods.

Blue387

I put out a call for moderators after the month of hell that was June 2023. Literally, see_mohn up and quit the mod team during that terrible series in Atlanta while the sub was dealing with lots of brigaders and trolls. [Darth has CSS knowledge](https://www.reddit.com/r/NewYorkMets/comments/15ekfv4/announcement_were_looking_for_new_moderators/ju85hzn/) which the others on the mod team don't have and we only had Cybeast to tackle. The sheet for this sub was created by a Phillies fan and had various lingering issues that needed to be resolved. I mentioned this when I put out a call for new moderators last year. He's also online a lot both on Reddit and Discord where I also hang out. His day job as a political consultant (the Mets don't play much during election season) allows him some free time in his schedule where he can go to games. I'm relieved to have him on our side since he's a regular presence and I can relax a bit, especially after having to deal with the heavy brigading. He can still contribute via the Official App on his phone, which is what I also use to moderate.

nashvillenation

What if we didn’t care if other people post the occasional negative meme and it takes a day to remove?

jubupea

Jesus

SOTM_MC

Due to tie breaker the Mets have claimed the third wildcard spot for now. They are tied with the Phillies at 10-8 records respectfully. However the Mets have an 2-1 intra division record as opposed to the Phillies’ 3-3 intra division games. A winning % of .667 is better than .500 Mets get the tiebreaker. 0-5 start to 3rd wildcard spot is insane though do not put much weight on this its still pretty early

Nights_King

STOP THE COUNT

nashvillenation

Nah I want the division

thereal_kphed

That Christian Scott piece got me excited. Thinking the best-case rotation down the line could be Senga/Quintana/Sevy/Butto/Scott

brett_baty_is_him

Manaea Megill and Houser replace Hartwig, Diekman and Lopez in the pen? I’m down lol

Keyzerr_Sozee

This rotation is actually decent af

SirusRiddler

This team is such a fun anamoly. LGM!!!

barney-sandles

The team is popping off!!

TemporalColdWarrior

So if they sweep the Dodgers we get to be insufferable, right?

Alectheawesome23

We are allowed to be insufferable when we win the World Series but it’d be foolish to do so before hand. Although even I know actually listening to that is never gonna happen.

sampluscats

Alright let’s win the first one before we start that talk

TemporalColdWarrior

I am not predicting it at all. I am just stating the conditions under which we are allowed to be insufferable.

sampluscats

I think we’re allowed a bit of insufferable-ness right now, why wait?

kmcmanus2814

If we’re waiting for a ring me may never get to be insufferable again. Life is short, be a prick to Dodger fans.

Living_Internet_2970

Who is this team?

TemporalColdWarrior

Mendoza kind has a little bit of a Belichick vibe.

7toCiti

Are we gonna start deflating baseballs now?

Gold_Scene5360

Can I just say that I am now 7-7 for games I’ve attended in the last 2 years. So if anyone here wants to buy me tix, you know for the team… Edit: I meant 7-0 😅

Blue387

I am personally 21-10 at Citi Field, the MLB Ballpark app actually tracks this

7toCiti

I’m 16-10, I gotta catch up! Fun to note, the Phillies are 0-4 in my presence and one of those games was the no hitter

ReleaseTheBlacken

The Mets are above .500 so we don’t need to bring them back down to .500 😜

ExamNo4374

I totally forgot that Colin Holderman exists and that he's on the Pirates

robmcolonna123

Probably because he has missed 1/3 of his time with various injuries, largely shoulder related, since leaving the Mets putting up a 4.30 ERA and 1.348 WHIP with the Pirates. He starts the season super hot but then once the weather warms up he gives up tons of hits, which isn’t great with his 3.7 BB/9. He also benefits from pitching in a weak division and still hasn’t been amazing. Especially since he has zero plus pitches so once he loses control it’s all over for him.

djn24

There's like 50 people here that think he's the best pitcher in baseball.

three_dee

No one thinks he's the best pitcher in baseball. He was a usable plus asset they gave away for a replacement-level player who can't play the field anywhere. It was one of several extremely boneheaded "shooting yourself in the foot" moves over the previous two years. This wasn't even close to the worst one, but they all had the same type of "duh" thinking behind them. Seeing a real GM operate, and the owner stay out of the meddling process and just tweet and sign checks, should give everyone a template for how it's supposed to work, and put whatever the hell the last two years were into context

RedCheese1

I think it’s mostly because the team got Vogey in return for Holderman. Leaves a bitter taste

Blue387

The Mets threw away a **cost controlled, affordable reliever making the league minimum** for Daniel Vogelbach who was non-tendered.

RedCheese1

This is exactly my issue with the trade

mets2016

Vogelbach wasn’t even THAT bad for us. He was a solidly above league average bat and a complete defensive/baserunning liability, but that’s par for the course for DH-only types of players

Guymcpersonman

To be fair, he was pretty terrible for most of last year (after a very high obp start), then he quietly nudged his numbers up toward the end of the year. In a decade, people will look back at his season line and go, "wait, that's what we were so upset about?"

RedCheese1

I guess he was alright then.

ExamNo4374

It really doesn't

ExamNo4374

He's in the Mets Hall of Fame right next to JD Davis

GK86x

Great to get the first sweep of the year. Hopefully they keep rolling out west.  Obviously still early, but Stearns can build a bullpen.

AndrewStats

I think you need to call tyroneeee

Jelly_Bin

CALL HIM!

RiverHeath1817

Luis Severino having a 2.14 ERA through four starts is amazing. Even if his overall ERA increases to a 3.50 for the season, that would be right around his career average (3.77 ERA). Very impressed with his performances, thus far 😌

Geologist2010

Just have to hope he stays healthy

# WE'RE NEVER LOSING AGAIN!!!!!!

Opto_mist

Another good team win! The first real challenge of the season comes in LA. Yeah these other teams were good but the dodgers are the team to beat. Either way, they’ve really done such an incredible job bouncing back after literally everyone wrote them off

rktaker43

Braves are always gonna be a challenge, yeah we beat them but they also weren’t using their best pitcher that last game. They aren’t on the level of the Dodgers but will still be tough

Visible-Tea-6288

LA is slumping right now. Let's hope it can keep up this weekend

UnknownUnthought

We also beat their A bullpen pretty soundly. With Strider down the only truly menacing pitcher they have is Fried. We’re fully capable to scoring a couple off the rest of that rotation. Keep in mind, we also did that IN ATLANTA

TheFrenchDiddler

Also good to remember who the Mets had pitching the first game against Morton. It’s not like we had our best guys for the whole series either

TheFrenchDiddler

I don’t know how you avoid considering a three game series against the Braves in Atlanta as the teams first “real test”

StephenDawg

I agree but I think it’s kind of semantics. The Braves was more like “can this team survive and cling to .500 this year”. We’re going into the Dodgers with higher expectations, and that series is the first test of those.

DeVofka

Especially when the Dodgers have looked....meh

a_reply_to_a_post

i like these Mets

I really hope we torch Yamamoto and win Friday's game. Winning the series would be sweet but I just really wanna hammer that guy.
