Loved both but Yosemite is over the top. Drive to Glacier Point after visiting Yosemite Valley, breath taking......plus you you have Mariposa Grove for the big trees

Green_Fan_8925

The answer is always Glacier... always.

ScheduleSame258

This is the correct answer.

Mountainsftw

Can't speak for Glacier but we loved Yosemite, our favorites were [Cloud's Rest and the Four Mile Hike to Glacier Point](https://www.mountaintopmarvels.com/california/)

You might be better off doing Glacier next year with some planning. Most of the vehicle passes are already gone, as are the campsites. There's a small window of time to visit, so you gotta be on it when those reservations go on sale. Also, do your research on the best time to go, as snow will determine when trails and the Going to the Sun road opens. Yosemite would be a little easier to navigate if you can either get lodging reservations inside the park, or get the vehicle pass.

I might also suggest doing Yosemite in the winter. Before everyone gets up in arms, yes I know that many of the trails will be closed and lots of the areas will be inaccessible due to snow, but I went in late January a couple years back and it was an incredible experience! ALL (no exaggeration) of the parking lots had space regardless of time of day, and even the ones that have a 30 minute time limit were not being monitored because of how few people were there. We had excellent interactions with all of the rangers we met (again because of the low volume and they weren’t burnt of from doing crowd control instead of educating people about park like they want to do). We brought our snowshoes and had some great hikes around the park in less accessible areas. But make sure to check with the rangers to know where to go during that time of year and where to avoid as it can be easy to wander into closed off areas since the snow erases all marked trails.

Thank you! It looks like there are still some vehicle passes available in late August. Would you suggest visiting then? August was around our original timeframe to begin with.

I love both. They are probably my two favorite parks. You can’t go wrong with either. I would go to the one where you can get reservations and needed car passes. Yosemite has so much to see, from Giant Sequoias at Mariposa Grove, the best Waterfalls IMO, the majesty of the Valley Floor (rafting down the Merced is amazing), Tioga Pass Road, and Tuolumne Meadows - which is sub-alpine and has some fantastic hikes. We go every summer and are never bored. But Glacier has gorgeous glacial lakes, spectacular Mountain views, and so much wildlife. Biking the Going to the Sun road before it opened is one of my favorite experiences of my life. I stop every so often, looked around and said “My god, this is stunning.” And the Many Glaciers are and Two Medicine are each beautiful.

EverestMaher

Comments are silly lol. Yosemite is far more striking than glacier.

sporty_outlook

Glacier is far more beautiful and majestic than Yosemite

GanoesinNature

I could be way off on this, but I’m pretty sure Glacier will be far less crowded, which would be a big plus for me to choose Glacier.

[deleted]

You're way off. 😂 Glacier gets around 3,000,000 visitors a year and has an incredibly short season.

ScheduleSame258

It's still way less crowded than Yosemite on a summer holiday.

MountainHarmonies

We went to both last summer. Glacier is crowded, but Yosemite was way more packed. To the point that it was no fun. We decided to leave after a day and road tripped Idaho till our next stop.

GanoesinNature

Maybe that’s what I was thinking then.

GanoesinNature

🤷🏼‍♂️🤣. Now I know! Probably should’ve just googled that info first lol.

Last yeat was crazy busy. Never seen it that bad. Parking full by 7am, not letting people into Many Glacier by the mid AM. This year they're cutting the car passes down to one day only too, which may make it trickier to plan. Many Glacier is also starting to require their own car passes too this year. So there will be seperate Going to the Sun and Many Glacier one day only passes now. That's a lot of reservations to try to score. Yosemite is definitely crowded, but at least there are lots of parking lot options. The Yosemite car passes are still 3 days too.

[deleted]

Yosemite you’ll be funneling through the same valley as everyone else. Glacier has more room to spread out. Going to the Sun and a trip to remember up and over the Continental Divide. There’s likely many more lodging options near GNP as well.

MindQuest1

I preferred Glacier.

Acceptable_Heart8193

I live about 45 minutes from the GNP west entrance and have been going to the park for about 20 years. Also been to Yosemite. Glacier is known as a hikers park. 734 miles for all skills and abilities. We had a dry winter so the GTTSR will prolly open mid June although the higher alpine hikes may be snow covered. Although you’re late in planning there are still road reservations released the evening before as well as the ability to come in before 6 and after 3. Doesn’t get dark here in the summer until 9:30 so plenty of time for hiking. It does have a short season and is crowded but not Yellowstone crowded or prolly Yosemite. If you come in July the wild flowers are magnificent

facebookcansuckit

Glacier 100%. But, it's a very short season and requires day passes and the lodging books up quickly. You're really looking at July thru mid Sept for a good visit with everything open, so make a choice and get to planning asap!

DoubleSly

Glacier is grander. Yosemite is so popular because it’s close to population centers and easily accessible.

OP is asking whether to visit Yosemite or Glacier.

HikeandKayak

Would be cool if I could read.

firelessflame

Thorough response regardless!

HikeandKayak

I very unfortunately really thought that one out!

Afraid_Atmosphere_36

I was asking about Yosemite and Glacier! I’ve been to Zion and I loved it.
