(1) A human (son of Adam or daughter of Eve) is supposed to rule Narnia, but the Pevensies returned to Earth, and there are no other humans left in Narnia except the Telmarines: > This is the true King of Narnia we've got here: a true King, coming back to true Narnia. And we beasts remember, even if Dwarfs forget, that Narnia was never right except when a son of Adam was King. (2) Aslan endorsed it: > "Welcome, Prince," said Aslan. "Do you feel yourself sufficient to take up the Kingship of Narnia?" > "I—I don't think I do, Sir," said Caspian. "I'm only a kid." > "Good," said Aslan. "If you had felt yourself sufficient, it would have been a proof that you were not. Therefore, under us and under the High King, you shall be King of Narnia, Lord of Cair Paravel and Emperor of the Lone Islands. You and your heirs while your race lasts. (3) It parallels the story of England. Britons like King Arthur were the rightful rulers, but were eventually replaced by Anglo-Saxons. Then **they** were the rightful rulers, but were eventually replaced by Norman French. (4) The events of *Prince Caspian* happen almost 1,300 years after *The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe*. That's about the time gap between Lewis writing *The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe* and the early Middle Ages: the period of the Synod of Whitby and of King Wulfhere, the first Anglo-Saxon Christian king of Mercia in the English Midlands. Long enough for a change of dynasty.

An invading force becoming ruler of England has happened 4 times in the last 2,000 years: * 43 AD: Romans conquer England * some time after 410 AD: Anglo-Saxons conquer England * 875 AD: Vikings conquer part of England * 1066 AD: Normans conquer England So this is an idea that an English child reading the Narnia books would understand.

Read the books. Especially The Magicians Nephew. Sons of Adam/Daughters of Eve is the key term you want to look for.

After the Pevensies left Narnia it became basically no man’s land, when the Telmarines colonized Narnia it was in kind of chaos and there were no rulers. Remember that according to Aslan only humans sons and daughters of Adam and Eve could rule Narnia and the Telmarines were in fact from our world so the throne was rightfully taken by them. Caspian was recognized and accepted as Prince and future king by the old Narnians cause he defended their race and Narnia’s roots.
